    This applies to all ford broncos, f150, f250’s from years 1980-1996. This is to convert your automatic 3 screw locking hubs to manual locking. You don’t need many tools just about an hours work to do both.
    Parts list Used:
    Manual hubs: amzn.to/2AndVfe
    Spindle Nut Socket: amzn.to/3gYbbbK
    Picks: amzn.to/2B7BMjv
    Torque wrench: amzn.to/3gzHGdG

    I liked the humor sprinkled in. My dad had a couple broncos, one was an oj bronco. I used this video because the auto locking hub on my 96 f159 failed and I just have to see how it comes out, I think I'm just going to get a replacement from a junkyard, the truck is mainly a garage queen so I guess I'd rather keep it original. But if the junkyard ones are trashed maybe I'll do the manual conversion.

    Good video you made it so people who are not familiar with this system can do the work yourself. Any special tool needed is that socket and you can rent that from any parts store.
    I'm fortunate that I have all of the special tools needed to work on Fords.
    Those Auto hubs suck. I've had two separate Ford with them on them and changed both of them over to manual.
    Really like this video. I made sure to hit the big old like button and I'm already subscribed to your videos. Looking forward to more .

    this is the second video i've watched. I'm doing the same thing on my f150 96...with the dana 44ifs, I believe. I had to replace spindles too. For some reason, my hubs are getting way too hot after 15 or so miles. can't figure out what I've done wrong. my torrque settings are the same at 50llbs, backed off 90, and then 150lbs for outtter. It may be that my truck has a very specific spindle for the 94,95,96 fords... and the seal or dust cover is rubbing against the wheel bearing seel casuing friction. It's driving me crazy... I don't know what i did wrong! ill pay you for a video phone call diagnosis

    Great video! My question is, What makes the others fail! seems as if they are almost the same except for the lock in lock out?

    • @Drew-cz7hw
      @Drew-cz7hw 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Ford uses vaccum activated hubs. the seals on the hubs wear down and so do the vacuum lines. Once they leak it can't build enough pressure to lock the hub. Replacing the OEM vacuum hubs is more expensive than replacing with manual by almost 4 times what he paid. So the manual conversion is cheaper. Common replacement is warn brand hubs I believe they have a lifetime warranty.

    • @williambeck2997
      @williambeck2997 4 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      @@Drew-cz7hw FYI, they are not vacuum actuated. They are torque sensing, and use a ratchet mechanism. Unfortunately due to lack of use, or simply wearing out, the ratchets fail.

    so what im curious about is proper use of the 4wd system. mine is a 94 f150 5.0 with manual hubs and the two 4wd buttons on the dash (4x4 and low). if i put it in 4wd and or LOW do i have to lock in the hubs or is it drive-able without locking the hubs? i dont want to break anything but even if it wont hurt anything will the 4wd system act like its still in 2wd if i dont lock the hubs? what if i only lock one hub, what happens then?

    • @williambeck2997
      @williambeck2997 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      you CAN shift into 4x4 low and not lock the hubs, essentially giving yourself 2wd low. Some people use this for the extra torque, but i do not recommend it. It's just as easy to simply lock the hubs in, and use the push buttons on the dash for 4x4 or 4low. Locking one hub and leaving the other to free spin can damage the front driveline. Locking one will effectively still be 2wd, as power in an open diff (stock front is open) will send all the power to the unlocked, freespinning hub, negating the point of engagint he transfer case anyways.

    • @Billy_Darley
      @Billy_Darley 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@williambeck2997 yeah back when I wrote my comment I tried various ways in the snow on my steep driveway and found out pretty much everything you're saying is what happens. Those front hubs are crucial to having any kind of 4x4 traction. Without them I was pretty much still in 2wd regardless of the transfer case. I really miss the simplicity of an AWD SUV. Add in a push button center locking diff and I'm on 4x4 easy Street.
