  • In this Davinci Resolve Fusion Tutorial, you'll learn how to create an animated knockout text effect. This is quite an easy effect to achieve inside fusion. I hope this video helps. Let me know if you have any questions or if there's something you would like me to cover

I love these simple videos. If you can create an effect this clean in less than 10min, you're doing something right.

Well since you asked lol. Is it possible to have an effect only apply to a specific plane in 3d space? Meaning if I add a warp to my video, it'll affect the entire screen. How would I be able to have it affect just a wall or just the floor of the scene?
Ex. If someone jumps or lands, I want the ground to distort upon impact, how would I apply the effect to just the ground?

Unfortunately, I have to admit this is a bit out of my scope of knowledge. I've really only dabbled in 3D with Davinci Resolve, so I'm not very familiar with it. I'm sure there is a way to do this, but I'm not sure how. Thanks for the comment, though. I hope you find your answer!

@@MichaelSturgill that's fine, I figured it wasn't a simple situation. I keep getting close but I know that theres something I'm missing

How can you apply this effect with the white background being a bit transparant? So you can see the actually footage

Good question. With the background node selected and in the inspector on the right, you should be able to bring the alpha slider down a bit to make it transparent. Hope this helps!

Ok I followed to a T. I have working in fusion but the animation does not show in my timeline. The text knockout shows. Just not the animation.

I apologize for the late response here, and there are a few things that might be causing this. Sometimes the render cache can cause some issues, you could try disabling it and/or clearing it to see if that helps. Some other ones might include disabling motion blur, making sure the key frames are set correctly, and making sure the frame rate in fusion matches your project timeline. Even just restarting resolve can fix this sort of issue sometimes. I hope this helps!
