  • We find some of our best tools at flea markets. Often you pay far less for a used tool at a flea market and sometimes the old ones are even better than the new ones. You can also find antique hand tools at markets that you don't find in stores anymore. So join us in this edition of "What the heck tool is this?!" as Ralf shows off some of the neat tools we have gotten at the flea market this year.

It's a hay knife, used to slice open haystacks so the animals can get to unweathered hay.

If you want tools like this...go to turkey, even in touristic Alanya I found shops which sold usable handmade woodworking and rural tools. I bought a bill for 10 Euro and an hewing axe for 15. Pullknives where about 5 Euros.

That’s much nicer than my stitching saddle.

It's a hay knife! Used to split apart bales of hay. Basically a froe but for hay

Could it be a peat cutter?

I want to know what that strange looking tool is, too.

It certainly isn't a froe. The blade is much too thin to withstand pounding into a block of wood. It would be a shame to destroy it that way. It's not farmer made but blacksmith forged, it being too nicely forged for an amature.
