Do people not realise that CF Moto are huge? They are a serious company in the bike market. They aren't just a company aligned with KTM and have a bike called the 450MT. They have just had a rider win the Moto 3 world championship. They mean business. Whether people like it or not, they are in it for the long haul. Some truth to this. Years ago cranes used to off load cargo in ports were replaced with cranes manufactured in China. It was found that buried in the software was code that tapped into network data and passed it on some how. Those cranes are being replaced now to eliminate that possibility.

This is good news. While the Chinese people are great, and I can even understand what their government does, I do think they have made a general nuisance of themselves. Scaring Philippino boat men by military boats, transgressing heretofore quite border areas with India and militarizing it, wiping off the culture of Tibet, usurious loans to Sri Lanka. The list ain’t short. The Xi government would benefit from this little lesson.

The CFMoto TBox is a plug-in option - not a hardwired part of the TFT screen. Some countries include it free (and you can easily remove it) and some countries like mine keep the pricing down by NOT including it. Personally I won't buy it - I have a CarPlay GPS/Screen that links my phone instead - not locking me in to the motorcycle manufacturer. So if USA bans bikes with a TBox option - companies like CFMoto will simply NOT include TBox's for US delivered models. The bikes will still have the TFT - without the scary "tracking" going on 🤣

UK Motorcyle dealers are struggling …..full stop. Youngsters and the older generation are positively encouraged NOT to get on two wheels by incredibly high insurance premiums. Absolutely atrocious service from the staff in general who treat you as if they are doing you a favour by talking to you and whilst I accept the standards of driving has to improve, the complications attached to gaining your licence by government employed jobsworths is just ridiculous.
Yes….there are dealers who don’t fit in with the above but service generally in the UK is poor…..just look at the public transport system….chaotic and unreliable.
We put up with a TWD attitude….That Will Do!…..well for me who has dealt with the general public for over 55 years it’s NGE….Not Good Enough!
I have recently bought my second Chinese motorcycle….same brand, the first was 2 1/2 years old and it was excellent, NOTHING failed and it was loaded with gadgets.
      Summary.
      1. The salesman never returned any of my calls throughout the negotiations….I almost had to beg in order to buy.
      2. Just yesterday I took the second bike for it’s 1st service
      a. They didn’t have the correct oil filter in stock….said “they” had sent the wrong one.
      b. Was told they hadn’t drained the oil as they did it last, (because it was hot!!!) the bike was rideable, they would do the rest of the service, I ride it home and bring it back the next day when they were promised delivery of the correct filter.
      c. I live 6 minutes away the garage. I suggested they pick me up from the coffee shop opposite the garage, run me home, collect me next day when the job was done OR I just collect the bike (and take it elsewhere)
      d. What garage drains the oil last? Whilst the oil is draining you get on with checking the rest of the bike over, on the first service that’s all they do!
      e. I was told the service would take one hour when booking it in. The service manager said he would want it for 2 hours as they check the bike over very carefully……..The first service is basically an oil change and check fluids, squeeze a few levers and a wipe over with an oily rag if you’re lucky.
      f. How did they know it was the wrong filter if it hadn’t been taken off? Was told the filter on my bike is the new version with 4 holes and not the usual ten or so…..you work it out.
That my friends is just one example of my many experiences of dealing with main dealers over 60 years of motoring and why I never use them after the first service. I generally do it in house, we operate forestry machines and have a well kitted out workshop or use an independant for the more technical works that require specialist tools…..read software.
The Chinese are building well made motorcycles, the engineering qualities are as good as anything from Japan or Europe and represent good value.
That said, the industry will continue to suffer unless we improve riding standards to reduce insurance premiums and accidents on the highway.
I drink black coffee…..Frequently asked in cafe’s….would you like hot or cold milk with your black coffee? A classic TWD approach and attitude.
Enjoy your bikes whilst you can….I reckon for me it will be three more years when the insurers will refuse to provide cover, already finding obstacles when renewing and I have a string of riding qualifications having been professionally trained and exemplary riding record.
A string of dealers have folded in the last month and this will continue unless we….as a nation….pull our socks up.

I just heard on the television news that Europe is going to increase the import duties of electric cars from China by 30 or 35 percent simply because they can't compete, I haven't heard anything about motorcycles so far. China is not going to leave it at that and is definitely thinking of taking measures. This has nothing to do with safety measures but everything to do with price competition. By the way, years ago they did the same thing in the US with Japanese motorcycles especially to save Harley Davidson from bankruptcy.

@@toqtoq3361 Indeed it is true that the Chinese companies are financially supported by their government, but the attitude of Asian workers is completely different from that of the Western population, you know when those people start a task that they want to complete it as quickly as possible and are even prepared to do this for free without any wages or what we know as overtime but unpaid, not that I am in favor of that on the contrary but I do not see that happening here anytime soon and it is simply incomprehensible to us. China has enough power and are able to create enough hardship in the US to stop or change any US policy they want to.
Labor unions, The EPA, and government regulation have driven most manufacturing out of the US. The US would have great difficulties functioning without Chinese imports so anything that gets banned from being imported from China to the US will be things China goes along with. The US don't have much to say about it without risking massive shortages of necessary goods.

Defo economic trade war. I work in IT and the tech coming from China is way ahead of the western world. Most of the stuff is for the positive and less so, for negative. Appreciate that if one is a 'peasant', the tech wars for comms will not affect most people. If you work for MI5 etc, you will have specialist software on your comms to protect transmissions - and the governments know this - and China too 😆. The problem with China is it is now offering top quality products (motorcycles in this case) which is sending a panic across the industry. And, with the high import taxes, only the end consumer reaps the wrath - where as the government applying such a tax reaps the rewards financially. I enjoyed your subject and researched the topic. There are a combination of reasons for the legislation I could list, but in my view, this is the most important: business works best for everyone when countries operate under Adam Smith’s basic principles of free trade. This is the problem with trading with the CCP. By the nature of the government, it can’t function under those principles. I could continue if you’d like.

As far as I know, no bikes at the moment have built in GPS or telecoms. They all require you to connect your phone and they just mirror the phone info on your dash. So all the Chinese have to do is drop the bluetooth connectivity from their bikes and they're good to go, if I've understood what you said correctly. If people need GPS they can still buy a Garmin or whatever or use their phone on its own. All you'd lose is the ability to control your phone from the bike's menu and maybe some other minor things like service info.
Cars do have built in GPS, so they'd be a bigger problem.

Figuring out why certain things don't come to the US gets huge quick. For an old guy like me that has been into bikes for a long time, I drool over the standard type motorcycles most of the world gets but, do not come to the US. I'm currently working on a project 1970 Honda CL175 so I can have 18 inch wheels front and back that are near the same width. I have 3 Honda Cubs. the Cub was not available in the US from 1984 to 2019. I'm not paying over $5000 for a Cub C125. I would pay $1800 US for a Mexican Honda Wave. It has been a while since I got into this but, of the many things that are smuggled from Mexico to the US, Honda Waves are not one of them, not even parts of Honda Waves. There are tons of Chinese scooters here and they're cheap but, you do not want to get caught with a Honda Wave even if you're just parking it in your man cave to look at. Do not attempt to find logic in US politics.

TFT screen just on itself does not need connectivity with a phone or anything .. They just add it because heaving a tft makes it easy to do so but there are bikes with TFT without any sort of connectivity or gps capabilities. If we talking about preference I prefer simple LCD screen.. I get used to my speed in LCD screen numbers on my old Kymco scooter and analog clocks are not as nice for me but this is just my preference. A trade war this may be, but for the motorcycles part if it .. They don't have their own small bikes to be fended off. CF moto and Kove can replace the TFTs with simple LCDs and there you go, no gps, no connectively needed.

I think it's a trade war.. And a bit more simple than being discussed. The American car market has been in decline for years. If you look at the new electric car market it's fallen on its arse. No one wants one especially in America where fuel is cheap. And us British can't afford to buy one, are unsure about future electric cost to charge and the range is rubbish. BUT the Chinese cars are taking over.
MG a Chinese car company is probably doing better than FORD VAUXHALL in EV sales, why... because they are cheaper and just as good as others. It's just the Americans waving there muscles about.

  • @richardyardley5127

I think it is a three prong issue with Chinese goods. Firstly the Americans and the West in general have long had tech fears regarding the possible invasive nature of Chinese tech products and computers. Chinese computer firms have been banned for some time in certain industries and the Americans fear what could be possible in the future through existing Chinese computer technology. Then there's the trade issue, which gives the Chinese a perceived unfair advantage with pricing due to their far cheaper materials and labour costs. Finally there's the political and ethics issues, which rather speak for themselves. Personally I wouldn't buy a Chinese bike because they are generally too tech driven to appeal to me and with so many new products turning over and companies springing up in China, I doubt very much the longer term security in parts supply for individual models. Royal Enfield keep their products simple and straight forward. They also have a very long term history of ongoing parts supply for models going back decades. I trust them far more than any 'fly by night' Chinese firm.

Interesting indeed Ian I’ve heard about these possibilities in the US and as you rightly observe here in the UK we have a nasty habit of doffing our caps to uncle Sam’s every whim. Personally I’m frequently approached to review Chinese electronic products and I turn down as many as I take on. The equipment falls into three categories (TFT Car Play/ Video/GPS systems, Comms devices (helmet communications) and oddly tyre inflators! Just about every other channel is reviewing this kit and it’s no surprise given that the kit itself is supplied free and that affiliate sales links generate typically an 8% commission for the TH-cam channel. The irony is that the Chinese made kit and the motorbikes themselves are good but are on aggregate half the price or less of the “mainstream” competition. As far as CF Moto is concerned they are in an established collaboration with KTM and BMW with Voge for engine manufacture thus a clear link with European bike manufacturers. I do think it entirely possible that the US moves on tariffs are largely economically driven yet presented as a security risk issue the better to suppress objection. If so it amounts to a denial of value for money opportunities to people on lower incomes in the interests of a protectionist approach to “established” interests
