  • The CFMoto 700CL-X has proven to be a VERY polarizing bike. Some of you have absolutely loved it, and some you have been pretty vocal about your hatred towards the brand and how I'll end up regretting my purchase sooner rather than later.
So...2 months and ~600 miles later...do I actually REGRET buying the 700CL-X, or has it turned out to be as awesome as I'd hoped?? And more importantly, should YOU buy one? Ya gotta watch to find out!

There is a fix for the gear indicator problem , take off the front sprocket cover you will see the gear sensor , undo the black electrical tape to expose the connectors unplug them undo the sensor (14mm) remove the washer and screw it back in reconnect wires new electrical tape and bolt sprocket cover back on , and enjoy

Compared to other bikes with electronic throttle, the 700CL-X isn't too bad.
Also, the 450 CFMoto bikes are a huge step up in build quality and that little engine is super smooth.
So far I haven't waited any longer for CFMoto parts than Honda or Yamaha parts from my dealership.
I have owned about 20 motorcycles and there are 2 that I would buy again. Yamaha FJR1300 and CFMoto 700 CL-X.

I will say that the throttle mapping for the throttle by wire is kinda weird but it seems to be a lot better when you turn the traction control off. I have been looking into the Team MSC and Throttle Punks ecm tunes as they are supposed cure the weird throttle mapping issues as well as 7+hp gains. Throttle Punks also makes a custom high flow intake to go along with their tune. T-Rex Racing makes a crash cage, skid plate and sliders for this bike. Also there are some U.S. mfgs working on exhausts for these.

  • @dearbulls

You should get the sport model in new, and you'll be as happy as I am. It did have an ABS issue, and CFmoto recalled it, and it's been fine ever since.
I've never had the gearing issue you have, which could be the reason yours is only 2500. Neutral sometimes might have issue especially when it runs hot. But It's still way better than the Harley or Yamaha cruisers we've had.
Talking about support, CFMOTO is the only Chinese motorcycle manufacturer entering the US as a company itself. It'd be great if you can find an authorized CFmoto dealer in your area. Mine did my recall and it's been pleasure experience.
CFmoto had been making BIG name in the ATV and UTV world for years. Their motorcycle is fairly new, and I had to say they are not the no.1 quality even in China, but given their reputation in the ATV world, they would catch up soon especially when they got more KTM stuff in. QJ made better motor and they collaborate with Harley, but we do not have them in the US yet.

I picked up a 2023 for $6k otd with 1mile back in March. I have around 4500 miles on it now. The 2023 and up has three rider modes. They added off-road mode in which you can turn off rear ABS as well as adding a button to turn off traction control in any rider mode. I haven't had the gear indicator/cruise issue yet. Seems to be a bigger problem with the first gen models. I really really have enjoyed the bike so far through daily commuting and lots of hard twisties riding out here on the California coast. I had my bikes suspension setup by a professional suspension tuner for my weight and riding style and it has made the bike feel even better.

I wanted this bike a lot. It is beautiful. But after reading an endless list of problems many people were having a ditched those plans and got an MT07. I'm interested in an easy going, cruise local touring kind of ride and thought the 700CLX would be better and I think the bike even looks better. I love the seat and it looks more comfy for 2up riding. But the reliability just killed it for me. Went with the MT07 as my first bike (wanted an MT09 and low power mode but could only convince my wife with used MT07 prices). I hope to have a Ducadi Diavel 1260S one day! Anyone with the 700CLX, I hope it is awesome for you!

Ypu can get these dirt cheap like under $4k new the carry over models right now. That is a steal. CFMOTO is a legit contender in the bike world now imo. They are really making strives. I’m old. I like a rear fender instead of the license plate hanging on a weird arm. 100 years ago Harley developed the Jiffy Stand™️. When there’s weight on the stand it cannot be retracted. N00bs to H-D are freaked out about it until they get used to it. I’m guessing that like many bikes, including my Moto Guzzi, the gear position is calculated by speed and rpm. It doesn’t know what gear it is in until it can compare the speed to the rpm. As someone who follows racing I’m a fan of CFMoto in Moto3 and Moto2. Finally I don’t care what anyone thinks of my bikes.

The “bike thinking its neutral but it’s in 1st” does happen to me with my Svartpilen. I always start the bike using the clutch, so no problem there, but that has happened to me at stoplights making the bike stall and making me looking like a noob lol. Also it’s a pain with the Svart to find neutral. In the end I think that CF Moto sources several parts from KTM, so it could be a general KTM issue.

So sometimes I have to activate them twice when coming up to a turn, one while slowing down and another once I'm almost stopped. It is kind of annoying.

I'd either just bypass it and use Quadlock SAE to USB port cable running to Quadlock mount OR buy a Data Blocker from that same company that makes the Flipper0 (Penetration Testing tool for cyber security, made recent news from being banned from something I think) so that when I plug in the USB it's only power getting through and not data (useful to own if you use airport phone chargers frequently)
20:32 "since they haven't been out as long, you don't know what to expect reliability wise" Well, you can be the test dummy for all of us .....since you'll be having to do ~608 miles over 9 hours to just go to your bi-annual motorcycle shop for OEM parts

The starter motor made the bike lurch forward but it turned off as soon as it moved it shut off. I've just consistently pull in the clutch when starting, even if I'm in neutral.

So people buy them because they are cheap to buy and cheap to maintain.
The only way for cf moto to succeed is to have availability of spare parts for same day purchase.
But chinese bikes are not what shou should watch out for. Bikes from india Hero snd Bajaj are so much better for similar prices. They will take over honda some day.

Another problem with CF as far as the dealer support side is concerned is: Where are their warehouses located? Does their dealer site have to use google translate to put it in English? Can they even contact the dealer rep? Cause I work at a dealer/shop that sells Segway side by sides and omg is it a pain in the ass to get parts for them. Cause their warehouses are in China. So it takes somewhere in the 2-12 week category to get the parts. (Got a dood that's been waiting 2 months to get a clutch tool) The dealer site is garbage. Has to be translated from Chinese and doesn't work, well half the time and at all the other half. Dealer rep? Think i've seen him once in the 2 years i've been working there, and never talked to him on the phone. Straight to voice mail. I haven't been up to our sister store(a CF dealer) to see, but i'm willing to bet it's much the same. It's worth finding a CF dealer and asking those questions. Even if you are planning on buying 3rd party.
In the end you get what you pay for. Yes a MT-07 is about 2k more expensive, but for that you get a lot more than just the bike. Like: being able to walk into any Yamaha deal across the country, and even if they don't have the parts in stock. Getting them in about a week. That said, for 2.5k it would be worth the ball ache.

Yes they are cheaper when new but you lose most of their value when you come to resell and considering they are cheaper in the US, they must be really cheap in Asia and maybe almost thought of as 'disposable' by the manufacturer, so you ride it till it's too expensive to fix and then strap it, which is kind of the Chinese mindset for products anyway, hence the lack of parts/upgrades etc

Getting parts for my 09 CFMoto is real hard. CFMoto was started in 89. It has been in the US market sense 03. Being to new is their excuse. Every problem they have is from cutting corners to save money. Not that they are not decent bikes, I as still riding an 09 so they do last.
