It can't really handle a 1 v 1 yet so doubt the game is ready for a 3 player multiplayer, change for it to bug and not finish the map is close to a 100%
The game have heavy desync issue. To the point of mp being unplayable.
His first battle is a sea battle. That's freakin' great. Water combat is set to be given a lot of love in an upcoming patch/DLC, by the way.

As someone who used to love watching Ray and Alex play Heroes 3 on stream, this game hits a sweet spot. I'm glad to see these style games staying alive. You guys made this look like a lot of fun! Cheers gentleman

Age of wonders 2 and 3 are some of my favorite games of all time. AoW4 is one of my most hated

Total war did figure out campaign movement. If you pay attention the color of the arrow changes for each turn it takes to get there.

AOW Planetfall was fantastic, this looks just as awesome, the possibilities for character creation seem just as amazing too....see more RPG's need this level of character creation, scars, hacked off and replaced limbs, tattoos, body tats, scars, burns, cool default costumes....and abilities etc yet all we get is basic, biggest missed opportunity in New Vegas was a facial scar, you'd think being shot in the head would create all new facial scars but nope lolz [still an awesome game FNV]
this looks more of the same in a good way, if it ain't broke don't fix it, just add to it....

This game is a great addition to the franchise. I've played through the first 4 story missions (which can take forever) and I love the how you can alter your race via race transformations and evolution. Strong addition for sure.

Played it for over 100 hours, loving it.
Dragon Dawn recently hit, so i decided to make a Chosen Destroyer Dragon empire, my Leader ended up looking like Deathwing.
Just wanted to drop in to say thx for helping out about the Mischief Drama.
Big streamers lending a hand at the right moment means a lot.
The problem with 4x games is that you either go in blind and spent hours trying to figure all the mechanics out. Or you spent hours watching videos of people that have spent dozens of hours figuring out all the systems. This game on the surface is simple, but it's also extremely complex with the builds, the tomes, the cultures etc etc.
I don't like the victory conditions though. Since ever condition other than a military victory seems to be the same thing. Build 3 of these late game buildings, then protect them against AI enemies that spawn around the buildings you made for 15 turns, this also alerts all the other players so everyone can attack you to try and stop you. But the problem is that every single victory condition is this, magic? Build three buildings. Science, build three buildings. etc

And look at all the creatures you can play as!
Oh boy, you don't know the half of it.
You have the base races, then you have Minor and Major Race Transformations unlocked through research. You only get to have one Major transformation but you can have multiple Minors, or none at all, and the spells and unit enhancements and stuff that you research alongside them make the possibilities almost endless.
Ever wanted to play a Human Necromancer leading a faction of Dwarf Druids, conquering the world with animals and plants, while turning your foes into your undead vassal thralls? That bunch of Orc Paladins that swore to end your existence? They're now the undead heroes that lead your armies on to slaughter with branch and claw.
Have you ever felt the need to punish every faction of an entire annoying race, friend, foe, and ally alike, by turning them all into undead, demons, or trees?
Has anyone ever told you you have no imagination? Prove them wrong!
Pacifist Angelic Goblins, complete with halos and wings, whose enemies flee the battlefield because they can't stand more than a couple of turns in your glorious presence, and rule the world through diplomacy. That's a start.
Undead Skaven that ride rainbow-farting unicorns into battle, and drive their enemies insane? Yup.
Halfling cannibals that lead Balrogs and other demons into battle? Boring. Halfling cannibal treemen that ride spiders, lead Balrogs, and are perfectly Good? Now we're talking.
Noble Orc wizards that have lived underground so long they've started turning into rocks?
Desert Frogmen that somehow turned into ice?
A Shadow Dragon leading Elves that turn everyone they kill into gold?
It really is a game where you can let your imagination run wild.
Been playing the hell out of this game. I wish I more people played multiplayer thought. It’s hard to find a game.
It is you almost need a discord group to get together and a bunch of people to plan play days etc

It's PARADOX INTERACTIVE. So just know they'll have like 10 different DLCs and two season passes. All of their games turn out like that
Not necessarily. Most Paradox games that aren't a Grand Strategy or City-builder game had quite reasonable amount of DLCs.
Se the previous two Age of Wonders games for example.

Paradox is annoying like that, selling their games in 100 pieces. I avoid buying their games because of this
@@Cenot4ph Most of their games have 10 times the content of most triple A games right at release. DLCs are bonuses at that point.
AJ says this game is easy, trust me this game can be as easy or as hard as you make it in the realm settings.

Game is fun, but I haven't been able to play it recently. The AI, at some point, will just... not finish their turn and I can't finish the campaign.
At the 5 minute mark you guys were debating on whether to build a gold mine or a quarry. It would have been best to build your production at the quarry, which you did, and then a goldmine at the other site. Mixing two things often doesn't really pan out that wel, best to let focused areas do their thing. Like building farms on land with the boosted farming trait.. i forgot the name lol, but ya get it. This way it only really takes just a handful of turns and you'll end up in a pretty secure spot.

I like Planetfall better coz of the futuristic tech and aliens theme.
its better, because its the better and more polished game, has unit mods which mean more than the generic enchants in 4, and has empire mode - also the combat is much better and makes more sense. The game even has more narrative and unit descriptions - AoW4 has nothing little effort big prize and EA. has nothing to do with the setting. A good fantasy AoW is AoW1 and Shadow Magic.(AoW2+) Shadow Magic even has Planetfall's Kir'Ko they are just called Shadow Demons there, but are completely alien.
I couldn't get into AoW3 for some reason but 4 is superb so far.
Nice to see them talk about a strategy game other than Total war. This looks even more customisable than the 3rd one, which is great bu worries me a bit for the AI

I installed and played AoW2 thousands of times, Aow3 several times and AoW4 only once. I just got bored to hell with everything being generated. You no longer fight Goblins as Dwarfs. Now you fight generic goblin like creatures while playing as generic dwarf like nation. The are no flavor texts anymore and no campaigns with any story since everything is generated and random, every race and nation or hero. Its very dull. It's like a difference between having a romance with established characters in Mass Effect and having a romance between self made character in Sims 4. This is the equivalence of overall gameplay and charm of Age of Wonders 4 compared to Age of Wonders 2.
And yet AoW1 has the best immersion and world building out of all of them. Played it in mp too, leader off, but most of the time i played big PvP FFA maps in Shadow magic 15 factions and the best spell system can't be beaten, in 5 days its 20th anniversary of SM, btw.
Those devs should play more SM which AoW4 seems to be loosely based on(return of the wizard kings) to find out their new game has not even water tomes, unique units like mammoths riders and elephants and catmasters.
Their new siege mechanic is also beautiful, 6 T5 Fire Dragons cannot attack an outpost with a wooden wall, because only heroes can. xD
I think it was in AoW3 that dire penguin 🐧 had the trait 'pure evil'

This one isn't fun. It sacrifices lore, single player campaigns and charm of the unique races to race customization

They never started it in a video, but they replied to a similar comment a few videos back saying they will not be doing one... something about not enough time I think. Hard to believe when they put out so many videos of nothing. Guess it wasn't worth the effort.

Fantastic game in solo. Unplayable in multiplayer as it is plagued with desync.

Something I appreciate about this title is they didn't make it exclusively for sweaty nerds, they made it to be fun. Not some giga optimized micro and macro where you click a thousand times per second in a triangle formation around an NPC to optimally kill it without ever getting hit once.
At least they didn't let you buy BLUE JOE 😂

I loved SM and 3, and I already have like 100 hours on this one. Also Nekron was from AoW1.

This game is plagued by so many issues that you simply won't encounter until late game.
You can tell that about any game of this type, ALL 4x games have some major issues in late game.

Its a shame you never played AoW3. This game has fallen so far from its roots its not even the same. Even the graphics are worse
The roots were AoW1 + Shadow Magic then whole 11 years passed just so we can see stupid orcs with angel wings that are pure good......no, AoW3 is the same trash as AoW4, just AoW4 is even more far from the roots and mocks those roots by adding Nimue a water wizard in AoW2, without water tomes.
I really miss the gore from the first one. Crush the halflings. See them driven before you. And hear the lamentations of their bearded women.
I filed a complain about the missing gore of the first one at the heavengames site, and some dev replied to it 20 years ago. They made some lame excuse, its too difficult for them with the new graphic models, kinda in the same vein how it was too much work for the devs to add all 15 races of Shadow Magic into AoW3.

Wait until you get further into the campaigns. The final one, is a bitch and a half! It is stacked against you. The first 2 campaigns weren't that tough (not counting tutorials), but then the difficulty does start going up.
No it don't playing grexolis on brutal difficulty - what goes up is the memory leak each turn and A.I. turns in late game take forever, while it just shuffles their armies attacking nothing.
I won by expansion victory using the beacons, because i wanted to try that out, but could have won long ago with magic victory.
A.I. is pretty bad everyone know this playing the game and the campaign is a joke of 5 storie maps with bad scripting. PF was better in that regard and AoW1s campaign MUCH better.

I have been waiting for Joe to review this game for a hot minute. Pre-Dragon Dawn was a freakin' nightmare. Pretty good now though.
What made it a nightmare before Dragon Dawn?
@@CanderousOtto Specifically, I played it on console. Before Dragon Dawn, it would crash constantly, just about unplayable. A lot more stable now for me.
@@merronmist2368 Either I was just lucky or PC just has a better time of it because I had 45 hours before Dragon Dawn and I only had 1 crash.
@@CanderousOtto PC just has a significantly better time of it. Sony does not like letting developers update their games on console. Every time they do its some crazy expensive fee charged to them.
The game is really fun! On the first 3 playtroughs... then it becomes a slog, the combat is the most underwhelming aspect of the game, the melee units hits hitting eachother its the most sad thing i've seen, and the ranged attacks makes AoE4 arrows look amazing in comparison, no impact, boring SFX, just some low volume "pew pew's", so i just end up auto-resolving everything, which is a shame, since a whole lot of the game mechanics are dedicated to combat and it would be fun to actually see how my mythic-tier units perform in combat, but what's the point? The auto resolve will speed things up imensely and none of my units will get hurt anyways, so i see no point in actually playing the combat.
Which is really sad because a lot of the unit's concepts and strategies are really fun and cool, but i get to see none of it in action because of how pointless the combat is.
