    I’ve owed a eco-dive for about 15 years. Still runs incredibly well. Only problem I’ve ever had with it was after I left it in the dark for a while and it stopped completely. I thought I’d killed it. I put it on a window sill for a day to charge and it fired right back up.

      They're in my opinion the pinnacle for a beater watch. near-zero maintenance (leave it near a sunny window for a day once every 4-10 months depending on model), high tech (particularly the radio/GPS controlled ones), sapphire glass. Everything you need in a watch in one economical package. My only complaint is they're not the best looking, which is why I still collect automatics for my own passion. Every day I still wear an eco-drive, because why not?

    I've been wearing the blue version for about 7 months now- I don't think I have had to change the time yet- very accurate for me. I love the orange minute hand, as my eye picks it up instantly, and most of the time I only need to know the minute reading since i know what hour it is. It fits my lifestyle perfectly- I'm retired and I do a lot of yardwork and outdoor hobbies , and I don't have to baby this thing at all. I have fish ponds and am always dunking my hands in the pond without worry. I still wear the original strap as I can easily wash it off without it soaking up water or dirt as a canvas band might do.
    My only complaint was that I could not read the date with my old eyes. Even with glasses, it was not easy. After a bunch of research, I took a chance and bought a date magnifier crystal, and had my local watchmaker glue it on. Best thing i ever did ! Very few pictures available showing a date magnifier at 4 o'clock, but it works perfect for me.
    I like this watch so much for my day to day activities, I have decided not to get a more expensive brand, as this one meets all my needs. Highly recommend !

    I am wearing my blue version as I do most days. I have owned Promasters since learning to dive in the 90s. My instructors wore them and that was good enough for me. Highly recommended, probably 10-15 years or more before capacitor/rechargeable battery needs replacing, cheap enough to do. The finish is outstanding.

    Just got the blue dial pro master with stainless steel bracelet for my bday. First real watch after wearing an apple for 5 yrs. Came with a cool scuba tank to display your watch when your not wearing it. I don’t dive, but I do swim so it will look great at the beach or water park. It’s a great simple everyday watch. Looks great and the Lume looks good in low light.

    I have a Professional Diver Eco Drive 300M Titanium - owned it since 2004. It's a great watch, and it's been to 75 metres with me around the South Pacific, and it has an extension strap for dry suit use. It flooded on me once in 2012 but repaired and stgill in use for diving. The SS versions are just too heavy. This is one of three Eco-Drives I own, the other two are WR200 military styles a SS from 2015 and the one I really love from 2000. My 2000 one is just in for service now for the first time after 22 years of ownership, and it too has been on deep dives with me since 2000 without issue.

    I have the blue dial and it's one of my favorite watches. I wear it in the ocean almost every day, and it has been a trusty workhorse for several years now. You're not kidding about the lume...absolutely phenomenal! Honestly I like that they're underrated. It keeps their price low and it's kind of like having an "in the know" watch. True watch enthusiasts know when they see a Citizen that you're wearing a fine time piece while preppy rich kids wear Breitlings SOLELY because of the name brand. I like that Citizen remains being of similar quality to Bulova, Rolex, Omega, and Tudor whilst keeping a decent price point because of its underrated status.

  • @bobsondugnutt7526
    @bobsondugnutt7526 3 ปีที่แล้ว +47

    This thing is super solid. No complaints. Be sure to get a protective glass covering for the mineral glass. Prevents scratches and sits a hair above the bezel, preventing scratches/paint chips on it too if you knock into something. I had to place the strap under some books over a few nights to get it to wear right. I think the included strap complements the look the best (I don't think a thinner strap looks as good). Accuracy is around 1-2 seconds fast per month. It's my first real watch and I could see it being my only real watch.

    I have had the black version for about 3 weeks and use it as my everyday beater watch. I was a mechanical watch snob with several mechanicals but I missed the accuracy of quartz. What really sold me is the Eco-drive where I don't have to worry about the battery dying at an inopportune moment. My other beater is the famous SKX but after 5 years it accuracy was way off...almost 20 mins per day! Granted that it needed servicing but still cannot compare to quartz accuracy. The other comment is I am an avid skier and the lower-end mechanicals are sensitive to banging your ski boots on which certainly thru off the SKX. Overall I am THRILLED with this watch as it looks great, rugged and now the everyday watch that I depend on to be on time for everything from desk diver calls to painting the house and swimming in the ocean!

    I still have some Citizen Eco Drive watches from many years ago, so far none have failed way outside the warranty period. Accuracy is as good today as they were many years ago and all of then within + second or so a day. I'd guess the standby time may have reduced somewhat over the years but I've never had to put this to the test. Whilst I don't have a Citizen diver (why not?) I do have a lot of respect for the brand and the solar technology that they have used for a very long time. I like and purchase watches that appeal to me for a multitude of reasons regardless if they are mechanical or quartz, No snobbery here. Only earlier today another purchase for yet another new digital G-SHock. Great review Teddy!

    At first I didn’t like the “ND limits” text on the strap (and seems like others agree). But when I realized that the text and style of band is exactly the same as the original Aqualand from the mid 1980s, that changed my mind. The orange minutes hand dates back at least that long too. If the text was just a recent addition, it would be sort of lame and gimmicky. But because it’s been on Citizen straps for 35+ years, it charming and gimmicky. ;)

    For some reason TH-cam has started pushing watch collectors' videos to my feed.
    I'm sitting here with this exact watch on my wrist. For comfort, I replaced the strap with a Nato strap as he suggests. I bought it probably four or five years ago. I just checked the time against time.is and it's running accurate to less than a second, though I can't remember when I last set it - certainly not in the last month or two. I take it off when I shower because I don't want soap residue on it, but otherwise it's on my wrist 24hrs a day, 365 days a year. Yes, I sleep with a watch on. I don't dive, but I do sail dinghies and it's taken a few capsizes in its stride. It has a couple of scratches to the glass, nothing obvious but it's a shame. I still think it looks better than some gaudy Rolex. It's the black version and on the rare occasions I wear a business suit or a tuxedo it doesn't look out of place.
    So yes, I'd love to get into the watch collecting hobby, TH-cam - the problem is I can't think of a single reason to buy any other watch.

If I am rotating watches having to deal with adjusting the time on 5 watches all gaining or losing several seconds a day it is tedious. quartz, specially the solar type and atomic are extremelly maitenance free and you can just put it on and don't worry about anything and go on your way.

    Seem like this and the Marathon Nav, Orient Defender 2 are (as newbie) are best of tool watch on entry level. One thing with Promaster's I do get a kick of people who wear the 53 mm Professional Diver as daily. As functional dive watches most of my former co-worker who dived professionally in Kane'ohe bay or Pearl Harbor doing biological survey work just wore very complex digital stuff from the likes Suunto, Garmin or Aqua Lung.

    I have the black dialed version that I bought last November and I really like it. I also have a smaller case 300m Ecodrive diver that I've had for around 7 years and it still works great. I recently bought the all lume dialed automatic Citizen diver with the crown at 8:00 because I wanted an all lume dial but I've been moving away from automatic watches for several years now due to the increased costs of servicing an automatic. Nice review.

      @Nigel Molesworth clearly you must be NEW to the Watch Community. If you must know...let's start with the TH-camrs. Few of them feature Citizen watches on their channels. There's one in particular who openly admitted, that he hadn't featured the Brand enough on his channel. Teddy started his business quite a while ago ...and it's only now he's introduced the brand to his catalog. I could go on to give more examples. But as I said...you seem NEW to all of this.

    • @MrShinobi797
      @MrShinobi797 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @Nigel Molesworth I only gave the TH-camr as ONE example Sir ( seeing we're having this exchange on a TH-camr's page ). But I'm not gonna make this into a debate with you. There are MANY others who have agreed with my comment, within the community...its OK if you don't.

    • @MrShinobi797
      @MrShinobi797 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @Nigel Molesworth Brands like Casio ( Seiko, Citizen etc. ) appeal to the masses, because they offer watches that are INEXPENSIVE and get the job done, not because the Brand is “ LIKED " or appreciated. Your average Joe isn't interested in Brand, Heritage and the like that appeals to the Hobbyist and Enthusiast, which are very small communities of people. This is a statement of FACT and not opinion...your argument is WEAK.

    • @Splash111
      @Splash111 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @Nigel Molesworth Citizen is mostly popular in Asia...NOT in the USA , UK, Canada,Europe or South America. It is underrated in most of the world ---but not where the most populated Asian countries are buying these things like hotcakes. in the sense that most people buy cheap Walmart / Amazon homages, Casio watches, etc because they are cheap. The average person has no idea which movement is in their watch. I work with physician's that have no idea that there are even solar watches...lol. One MD was super impressed.....he only knows the quartz world...not even automatics. Eco-drive?..forget it.

  • @JMMC1005
    @JMMC1005 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    Bit of a nitpick, but Eco-Drive watches do *not* use capacitors. They use rechargeable lithium-ion cells (lithium-titanate-oxide chemistry, specifically). It was the early Seiko Kinetics that used short-lived capacitors. Pretty much all modern solar / kinetic watches use lithium cells now, they last a lot longer.
