      @@johnnysilverhand1733, agree. There’s just no way anyone buys a Citizen. That’s why I think that people who claim to own a Citizen (or any obsolete mechanical watch) are just trolls. They don’t really have the watch, I can’t think of a reason for it; therefore, it doesn’t happen.

    Have owned this Citizen Promaster Challenge Titanium for roughly a year now. Has been my every day for that entire time. Love this watch. Sure the crown is a bit small, and that can make time adjustments a bit more difficult that I would like, but I have grown used to how it looks and feel it is actually sized just right for the overall balance of this watch. I absolutely love the simple design, the titanium is proving durable, and the lightweight feel on the wrist is game changing. The Miyota movement is keeping time at approximately +/- 5 seconds a day. I am very happy with this performance. Lume is just fine. Not as good as Seiko, but it has never let me down when I needed it in a darker environment. My only real complaint it that the bezel can too easily be moved on its own. This is a genuine annoyance, and something I would love to see Citizen address. I got rid of the rubber strap and replaced mine with a Martac nylon with titanium buckle. Looks perfect together. Bottom line: the Citizen Challenge Titanium dive watch is a sleeper keeper. Handsome, does not call attention to itself (a bit plus in my book) and puts a smile on my face every time I look at and appreciate the subtle details that make this one from Citizen a winner in my book. Get one on sale and you will be happy.

    I have one and i love it. I like the 70´s funky style. Good movement, great materials AND great history behind.
    Regarding those who compare prices with the ecodrive etc... I don't think it's comparable, this is a completely mechanical watch.
    I think that the doubt arises as they say with watches like Tissot, Certina and Seiko. But I have to say that the Citizen can be obtained cheaper (between 650 and 750). The issue is whether you prefer to have more reserve or a faster heartbeat... I personally prefer the heartbeat, at the level of engineering and production cost it seems more valuable to me. Getting more reserve is easy with a longer spring at the cost of precision... that's why the big brands use two barrels and still don't reach the 80h of the powermatic.
    The point is that it is clear that there are better watches, but I think the value for money is more than adequate (if it were Swiss we would not have this conversation).

    I've had quite a few miyota and valjoux powered watches that have rotor wobble. I think it's cool it reminds me that I have a mechanical watch. That's the same when people say things about when they can hear the movement ticking. I have vintage chronograph with a Venus movement and it's quite loud. If its dead quite you can hear it chugging along without it being close to your ear. I think it sounds awesome.

      I agree. I wear my mechanical watches and love them. They’re mechanical, they’re a tiny time keeping machine on your arm. I love rotor wobble, the occasional “whoosh” noise when you happen to flick your wrist. The ticking you hear when you happen to bring your wrist up to your head or on a louder movement, anywhere near your head.

      Paired with the lighter than expected weight from Titanium I'd forgive someone for thinking it's a cheap watch. The bezel feels exactly like a Timex expedition.

  • @calvint226
    @calvint226 4 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

    One thing that surprised me was how large it wore. I had a SKX and thought that the larger case diameter and thickness would make this watch feel appropriatly small for my tiny wrist (I wear the smallest hole on the stock strap).
    Yet the lug to lug is longer than an SKX, so this watch is about the same width as my wrist where the SKX never came close to hanging off. The lug to lug makes it feel close to oversized while the spaller case diameter and thickness gives it less visual presence than a SKX009.

    This watch is the direct re-issue of the Citizen model they call the “Barnacle” because the of the story told by Teddy in the video, which is true. Only, Teddy got the year wrong - it was 1983, not 1982. That model was also known as “Flyer Diver” because it was issued to Pakistani Air Force pilots for two decades. The only two differences are the case for the re-issue is made from titanium and the upgraded movement. Citizen dive watches, including this model, are meant to be tool watches - utilitarian made for a specific purpose and reliable and robust to withstand the elements. This is a true dive watch, just put it on a NATO or RAF strap and you are good to go.

  • @tpoz48
    @tpoz48 2 ปีที่แล้ว +5

    I have had the basic Promaster for about two years. It has proven itself to tough, reliable, and the lume is fantastic. I only wear it when in the field or on the water. It's also worn doing yardwork or doing maintenance on yard equipment. I have a 6 7/8" wrist and it does feel clunky compared to other watches I have, but for around $250.00 it has proven to be a real bargain, and there's no need to worry about scratches or dings.
    When I stop working or playing to make lunch, the bezel is used to time the food being cooked.

    I just recently purchased citizen Fujitsubo and Seiko Prospex GMT in a week. My first impression on the fujitsubo was it felt cheap and less appealing.
    When my Prospex GMT arrived, I was totally mesmerized.
    But after a week of alternatively wearing both, and consistently staring at them, there is something in that fujitsubo that will capture your heart.
    It's hard to explain unless you have the fujitsubo in your hand.
    I tell you, that watch has something in it. Perhaps it's style and design and the color. It will magnetize you.

    I have a Baltic watch with a Miyota movement, and one of the things to notice is that the rotor is unidirectional so it will jiggle on the wrist occasionally. Similar to what happens to your Junghans Chronoscope

    • @Nefville
      @Nefville 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      That's true, the rotor wobble. Funny thing you hear a lot about how that's a real negative for buyers in this category, sub-$1000 but when you get into high horology or even some mid-tier watches quite a few are unidirectional, maybe even the majority and I think the main reason is that it just thins out the movement. Some will say its more efficient but its only more efficient half of the time, so take that with a grain of salt.

    I have always felt Citizen have not pushed themselves to compete with other brands as much as they should be and why they have for the most part stayed in Seikos shadows vs taking them on. I really love the love of the dial on this one but it's a decent asking price and like mentioned is let down in some areas like strap and bracelet choice. I don't understand how both seiko and citizen still fail to get bracelets right. Picked up a new Seiko Turtle padi the other day and the bracelet is ok for a watch half its value but rubbish for its price range. This has to be my next watch I think. My Swiss HAQ diver just failed on me for the 2nd time in 4 years, and if it fails once more, I'm selling that "desk diver" and giving this one a shot instead. Looking forward to the utterly superior lume, but I don't know how I will handle having ana accuracy that is about 300 times worse (litteraly). Hopefully I can keep it to a few seconds by tactical positioning at night, instead of setting it every damn day. But the most important for me is the overall package here, not the movement. And this is the perfect package for me in terms of style and functionality, and from one of my favourite brands too. This watch has heritage, not only with its little backstory and being a re-iteration of an old design, but also by being a titanium watch from the first manufacturer that mass produced titanium watches. And with a nice (or even great for the price-point) in-house mechanical movement to boot.

    just for the record I have a Sub and a Batman, but prime day there was a sale on the Eco-Drive Promaster Dive for $160, so I quickly grabbed that and it's a very nice watch. Now I'm discovering this new titanium automatic and I think I'm going to need to buy this one as well. Really good stuff that they are putting out right now.

  • @EK_Beast
    @EK_Beast 2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

    I love Citizen but the price on this is all for the movement I feel like and not for the case. 700 or more for the titanium automatic watch, when I could spend just over 400 for their titanium eco drive pro diver? Yeah like that’s a tough choice, hurts me to say it but I feel like if they charged 500 maybe 600 it would feel more worth it.

    It's not that it's not worth it but for the same price you can get a Tissot Seastar 1000 Powermatic 80. Same price at 700$ with 300M WR, a 2824 with 80 hours of power reserve and ceramic bezel. It's just stainless steel vs titannium.
    It does look the piece in black, many straps combinations possible. Nice one.

    Citizen Titanium is styled classically like the Seiko SPB143. That's great What less great is that Citizen's second hand doesn't reach its marker! *CITIZEN* text on the dial too large and prominent. Make it smaller or blend in with a lighter shade

    This probably not allegedly was lost by a surfer. The velcro nylon bands were all the rage about then and the chap wearing was probably a tradesperson fitting a surf in between appointments. A tool watch in the truest sense of the word and not the over priced accoutrement often hawked by this channel to an audience that will never be satisfied nor get wet.

  • @coachmigueldiaz9535

    I agree that citizen should be more recognized than what it is. But what I found when trying different models from the more affordable collections of both Seiko and Citizen, is that Seiko watches feel more solid or better quality. Yes, we all know about the misalignment issues, but having both on hand, Seiko feels better.
    With that being said, in the pilot, aviator style section, Citizen beats Seiko any day in my opinion.
    Nevertheless, great video and beautiful watch.

    In most videos you only show a wrist roll of a big sized wrist. An average sized wrist like 7 inches would be better.
