- Agamemnon, King of Mycenae, led the Greeks in the Trojan War after his brother's wife, Helen, was abducted by the Trojan prince Paris. To appease the goddess Artemis and secure favorable winds for the journey to Troy, Agamemnon sacrificed his daughter, Iphigenia. This act enraged his wife, Clytemnestra, who plotted revenge with her lover, Aegisthus. Upon Agamemnon's return from the war, a victor but burdened by guilt, Clytemnestra and Aegisthus murdered him, tragically ending the life of a complex and flawed hero.

They were not Greek, rather the predecessors to the Greeks, the Mycenaeans did exist in the late Bronze age, nearly a thousand years before the classical Greece period. The Philistines that warred against the Israelites are thought to be an offshoot colony of the Mycenaeans.
