    Kinda disappointed you didn't talk much on corinths geographical importance, and how they took to stirring up shit wherever possible, making up for a lack of might with clever diplomacy as the gateway from the peloponnese to attica. Top video nonetheless, I enjoyed it. 👌👌

    Yeah, you could say that Corinth "joined" Sparta in a war against Athens in a little thing called the Peloponnesian War. Nevermind it was Corinth that literally forced the Spartans into the war determined to have its revenge for Athenian interference in its relations with Corcyra.

      I'd disagree. Thermopylae was a "loss" technically but sparta and allies showed Persia that it would be harder than they ever imagined stomping on the first couple attacks. Sure, they eventually would lose but they struck fear into the Persians and gave time for the rest of Greece to prepare

    I stopped watching when he mentioned that the triērēs was adapted from the Phonecians, while it is well known that the triērēs is a Corinthian invention! It is documented in Thucydides, he mentions the inventor of the triērēs, a Corinthian man named Ameinocles (Αμεινοκλής) and also the year which is 704 BC. Trying to disregard Thucydides, a Athenian, who had absolutely no interest to glorify the biggest rival his city for naval supremacy, is ridiculous.

    Great video, however the Macedonians were greeks as well. They spoke the greek language and shared the greek culture. I say that because nowadays with that joke country called "North Macedonian", which are essentually slavs, trying to convince the world that Ancient Macedonians were not greeks. But they were greeks and it is important to be pointed out for all of those slavs trying to steal the greek heritage

    • @AncientHistoryGuy
      @AncientHistoryGuy  4 ปีที่แล้ว +25

      the macedonians were doric, which is what the Spartans were yes, however, Macedonian CULTURE during this time frame was at least a few centuries behind classical Greece. Hence, why the Classical greeks viewed them as Barbarians. SO Philip brought classical Greece to them, in the forms of teachers such as Aristotle to teach them the classical greek culture. There's a brilliant line in the film Alexander (hugely historically accurate movie, absolutely abysmal film) where Ptolemy says "we the sons of goat herders now rule over Asia."

    • @AncientHistoryGuy
      @AncientHistoryGuy  4 ปีที่แล้ว +11

      @@Armorius2199 well im talking of the history of Greece, which as a nation didn't exist back then. The greeks all spoke different languages to each other back then as well, Athens spoke attic, Sparta and Macedon spoke Doric. Macedon was a separate nation in this time frame with its own borders and armies, so referring to it as a separate nation is accurate because during this ancient time frame it was.
      Its a bit like how England was divided into different kingdoms, all separate nations, Wessex, Mercia, Northumbria, yet now they are all a part of one nation England.

    267...C.E. Then, the Visigoths attacked 396 B.C.? Just say A.D. Its' easier and it's TH-cam. You can save the BCE/CE for Oxford. I will absolve you of your politically incorrect sins. The whole BCE and CE is confusing simply because the mistake you made, like many people, ...B.C. and C.E. are easy to interchange creating confusion. I had a college professor who kept screwing it up during a lecture to the point of utter confusion. The whole religious connotation with B.C. and A.D. is ridiculous today. I'm sure 99% of the world does not know what A.D. means. I know plenty of atheists who say "Jesus Christ!" or "Oh my God!" when surprised or shocked. LOL. Other than that...fantastic job. Keep them coming! Also, please do not take this personal. I'm being a bit 'cheeky'. You're doing great work...(and I know you won't change to B.C./A.D. for fear of upsetting the B.C./B.C.E academic mafia.) Hopefully, we won't go for a 10 day week and change the name of months like the French did during their first revolution. Again, great work...just having a bit of fun. BTW...maybe you can do a show on why there is no 0 B.C. nor 0 A.D. followed by the Julian/Gregorian issue.
