    If I might add a note for #6. Mice don't like Avocado oil. If you have a problem of them 'visiting' your griddle, and leaving you small gifts, re-oil your griddle after cooking with Avocado oil. No more small gifts.

    Bought a Camp Chef a few months ago and I love it, you can take the griddle off and use it like a regular grill. I followed the instructions but about the third time I used it the top warped. Not much but enough that the oil would run to one side. I put a level on the top and took a picture to send to CC, they had no issue and sent a new top to me. Good companies always stand behind their products.

    The probe thermometer that I finally bought a few years ago has massively upped my steak cooking game. Looking like the "cool kids" is so much less important than having a steak cooked perfectly to the desired temperature. Buying the infrared thermometer when I bought my griddle was a no-brainer. Griddle cooking has such a learning curve as it is, why make it harder on yourself by guessing at temperatures??
    Oh ... and hello from Delaware, OHIO!!

    • @JohnnyBrunet
      @JohnnyBrunet  3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Hi Pam! I couldn't agree more, I've trained so many cooks in the restaurants that I managed who think that thermometers aren't cool or just want to try to impress people by not using one. All the professional Chefs I've worked with always have one and use it. And there is definitely a learning curve on the griddle I found that out the hard way lol. And Delaware you aren't too far away at all. I love it up there, my wife and I went up pre covid and checked out Staas and Restoration Brew Worxs. Thanks so much for watching and commenting.

    Johnny, -excellent videos! As a new Blackstone 30" Culinary owner, I figured I should learn how to use the thing. From what I've seen so far on TH-cam, you have the most plainspoken, no drama, informative and complete videos on griddle cooking. Some video producers concentrate more on being comedians and goofing around. I already purchased your E-Book, but wanted to send along $25 (not $2, $10 or $50) to encourage your continued production and video efforts. Using it for beer would be appropriate, also. Let me know!

      Also thanks for purchasing the e-Book that really means a lot to me and I hope it is helpful for you. I put everything I know in there and really just wanted it to be a good resource for griddle owners. As for the money thank you that is very generous but I don't have a tip jar or anything so I don't know how to do it and it is not necesarry. If I ever do set up something like that I willl let you know. I really appreciate you offering to support the channel and I'm so glad you are enjoying it.

    Couple of tune-up items I use for camping with my griddle - pre cook bacon, I prefer it this way - the on-site finish-off process is a lot quicker and bacon tastes better, is crispier (to me).
    Second thing - thick garlic toast from the freezer section at my grocery store - toasts great on the griddle and I often make sandwiches using this excellent, thick toast.

    #6 is an argument forever. It really is whatever works for you. I fought the idea of using flaxseed oil forever. Just because people pushed it so hard. I'm a rebel. LOL But, after trying everything with unhappy results. I broke down and got the flaxseed oil. Man, am I glad I did. I don't use it every time. I season the griddle after a good cleaning with the flaxseed. And cleaning I mean using water and making steam then flaxseed. After daily use. I just scrape off real good and leave the cooking oil. I cooked with. But, after a steam cleaning always flaxseed. It's made the griddle like black glass. And nothing sticks to it. It's really weird.

    One I'd add to the list: if you're shopping for your first griddle, don't be tempted to go with the smaller ones that "should be big enough". I made the mistake of starting with a 28" griddle, and yes a ton of great meals come off it, but another 8+ inches of flattop would make a world of difference.

    • @JohnnyBrunet

      Ya I totally agree. I have a two burner and I love it, it's also portable which is nice. However it doesn't even compare to the big four burner. The extra space is just so valuable. I always hesitate to say it because I don't want to feel like I'm telling people to spend more money. However it's totally worth the extra cash. Thanks for watching and commenting.

    Very informative video. I do have to question that you can actually warp the griddle top. I would think the makers would not make the burners get it hot enough to do that. I also think that steak is great if you cook it on a surface over 500 degrees.

    • @JohnnyBrunet
      @JohnnyBrunet  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hey thanks for watching the video. Yes I agree that you can sear a steak over 500 especially if you want that nice sear on the outside and rare in the middle. I don't usually go that high but that's my preference so I should have said that. As for warping I've just seen a ton of Posts on the Camp Chef Griddle Facebook group where this has happened. Usually they don't have all 4 burners on though. So one side is hot and the other is cold leading to warping. Thanks for commenting.

      @@amyblucker7745 yes do season with high heat. If it wraps let it cool down, it will go back to normal, sometimes it warps, but most times it will not. Use high heat let it burn off the oil you wipe on, repeat 4 or 5 times, cook on it. If it warps let it cool down. Nothing to it.
