A tip I learned that I love is to take a loaf of sliced bread and place it over your griddle. Let it cook for about 5 minutes, flip the bread, and it'll tell you where your hot spots are
My wife bought us a Blackstone for our anniversary/Christmas this past Black Friday. We LOVE it!!! We have done breakfast (bacon eggs hash browns and pancakes, fajitas, steak hibachi, fried rice, Cajun chicken nuggets with veggies, tacos dorados and so much more in the last 2 1/2 weeks. Wish had gotten a Blackstone years ago! Thanks to everyone for sharing your tips, techniques and tricks!!
Hi BB . I agree with having everything ready before you head out to the Blackstone but in my situation it’s better to do most things on my Patio. I do most of the cooking which my wife loves but I’m messy. When I cut up veggies it gets ugly inside especially Cabbage. I cut it outside & I use my leaf blower to clean up .
Love that 😂 when I say prep I mean just get all your ingredients gathered! I do most my cutting and mixing and such outside too! But hate to have to run back in and out for how many utensils or whatever I may have forgot! Also love keeping the kitchen clean for your wife!!!
Welcome to the Blackstone family! Love Blackstone products. We have had our BS Griddle since 2015, gave it to my husband for his birthday. He still uses it everyday, although we have 4 more BS griddles in various sizes, as well as the E series indoor griddle. We have loved BS for a long time and it’s our go to grill for our every day use. My best tip is to use it often and it seasonings itself more and more after each use. Don’t get discouraged if food sticks on the first couple uses, just keep cooking. Season it well, clean it properly, keep it away from water, treat it like your favorite cast iron pan and it will treat you well for years to come. BS TH-cam is your friend for great recipes and cleaning tips.
Wish I watched this before using my griddle. My son bought me a blackstone after hurricane Helena damage western North Carolina. He was hungry and we had no electric for 11+ days. We still don't have internet yet but the phones can now play a video with lots of buffering but i had to watch this video. Thank you for these videos. They help a lot
@RuaWaterwalker thank you. I'm making winter hats for the kids in my county that's still doesn't have electricity or homes. The big problem now is dcf is taking kids from their families in the places harvest hit. Its so wrong. They still need a lot of help. I just got my internet back a week ago. Over a month lol but there are areas hot harder and still need help. Blankets, warm clothes , Heaters etc.
@@Mamma_Kinzie oh my word, taking the kids, tgis breaks my heart, Lord, is there something you need? I don't how I could help right now, but I can 🙏 and see.
Tip #6 is my new favorite step. I never used to do this. Quick wipe down with water and a thin layer of oil on the entire griddle before cooking makes so much sense to keep the griddle clean and evenly seasoned.
One thing I have learned over the past couple of years with my Blackstone is most cooks are done on low to medium heat. It’s easier to add more heat when needed by either turning a burner up or turning on another burner.
Hi there from Bright Spots! My 36in Blackstone Griddle was a Fathers Day gift from my wife this year. It is a new part of my channel and a blast to cook on. Thank you for sharing your great videos! Happy griddling!
When I started using my 1st griddle I got a laser temp gage and a digital meat thermometer. I would google the proper temp to cook foods at and what the ideal temp of the meat for my desired doneness. Made life easy cooking on the griddle.
Betty, Your videos are always inspiring! You make me feel like trying something new on my griddle every time I watch you. Thanks for sharing and thanks for your enthusiasm.
Wooo hoo just got my first Blackstone !! My dad would take his camping and I had so much fun !! Now I get to kick at camp or at home for fun or meal preps✌🏻!!!!!
Just built my 36” BS & I’m excited to season it tomorrow!!! Glad to have caught the onion trick!!( I seasoned & used the one at my job, wish I knew that tip then) fell in ❤!!!
I just bought my FIRST Blackstone griddle and I absolutely cannot wait to cook kabobs on it!!! Thanks for the tips and tricks, can't wait to get searing!!
We bought a 30 inch Blackstone last July...sorry to say it's still in it's box. We live in Phoenix, Arizona...we don't do much cooking outside when it's already 115 degrees (f). I hope to open it up this month. El Mirage, Arizona
Happy New Year, Dez!…. Yeah, I have to “prep”, too… but like the one who said everything done on patio outside, I need to do some stuff outside to… otherwise it’s too much to carry outside to keep the cooking time in check… biggest issue is when I forgot something three times while the food is cooking! Marathon racing to keep from burning on this hot surface-even on lo/med lo… I have a church project imminently due…with the threat of snow 17 Jan…sent a certain “somebody” an email with previous year’s project images for any suggestions to switch up…haven’t heard from yet…😔
I cook every Saturday evening. I've cooked with charcoal and with in-direct heat, I finally got use to a gas grill and cooked for years on it. I have a master built smoker that I don't use near as much anymore since I bought a Blackstone 36". I'd rather cook on it than anything else. Thanks for the heads up on the onions. Good Idea. My son-in-law has one also and has rust issues. He bought one with the Blackstone lid and I noticed there is a huge area for air to get to the griddle when not in use. We live in the humid South. So I opted for a custom aluminum cover that lays close to the top edges. I don't have those issues. I also bought a heavy duty plastic tote that just fits on the shelf under the griddle to store anything needed to cook on the griddle . Like I said before, I really like cooking on my griddle!
My tip is learn where your hot zones and cooler zones are like you mentioned. I know the spots that cook hotter and learn to manage them. Knowing that some things will cook a little faster on those hot zones.
I bought a laser temperature gun so I could see which parts get the hottest. Honestly you will get an idea once you cook for a little bit even without the gun.
I started out prepping everything inside but then I bought a bakers rack to keep all of my cooking utensils, domes, rings and such. it has a place to hold my spices and a cutting board. I am now able to do everything right by the grill

Thanks for all of the info! How do you keep from getting paper towel debris all over the griddle? Also, do you clean with water before it’s hot or after it’s been warming up?
Loved the Video I was a cook for years, I do agree with and do all you said. What I will say to new owners don't be intimidated you are not going to hurt the griddle. The more you cook on it the more you will learn it is just a big cook top and you don't have to cook in small batches!! I would suggest that if you are lucky enough to have a large enough area to get a small fridge to keep stuff in if not a cooler will work. I do my prep work a head of time and keep it in the outside fridge along with all my condiments.
New griddle owner. Great video. Thank you. I had no idea there was so much involved in cooking on a Blackstone. I wanted something to take my cooking out of the kitchen..as well as when camping or boondocking. This may be a bit more time-consuming than I want to tackle.
Take your time with getting accessories for your Blackstone!! You can spend a fortune on tons of items that will barely use if ever. Overall buckle up because a Blackstone is one of the best things you can own to cook on!!! I put off getting one for years but finally got a 17” to take camping. Since then I’ve barely cooked on anything else. Home, tailgates, parties, there is always something to throw on the blackstone and rock everyone’s tastebuds!!
I just got mine today, cant wait for it to warm up and make all sorts of food, it looks like it has opened up a new way to cook things that would have been done inside, cant wait.
Friend introduced us to the Blackstone griddle on a campout. Immediately bought one to take with us in our motorhome. We absolutely love it. So.much that we bought a larger one for the patio. We now have a long list of receipts to try. I’m supposed to be on a diet. This is not helping me. 😊
Love the Phillies shirt. I love my Blackstone but unfortunately I bought mine when they changed the design to where the drip tray was moved to a channel uo front. Makes it hard to clean so I don't use it as much I like.
Sooo...my question is do I need to clean and condition after that first conditioning since you recommend using the onions? So. clean with soapy water, season, cook the onions then clean?
What kind of paper towels/towels do you guys use to season or reapply oil following cooks? I bought specific paper towels that people recommended that wouldn't burn away or leave residue. First swipe during seasoning scorched the paper towel and left debris behind. Lowered the heat and tried again and it just didn't matter. Very frustrating.
I’ve done the onion trick for years on my carbon cookware. Although I’ve always been told to use course salt along with onions. I honestly don’t know if the salt helps or hurts. Any ideas?
