Really looking forward to this series. I'm in Perth Western Australia and flew SQ to Zurich the week before Christmas, what a beautiful city! Then went onto Germany, flew BA to London for a week ( including NYE) then finally the Eurostar train to Paris for a week and then SQ back to Singapore and onto Perth. So your trip is taking in lots of the spots I did , except I did it in the middle of winter ❄️
If I had the money, I could very easily live in Zürich! It's such an easy city. This trip was over Xmas and new year, so it was in the middle of winter as well! But there was a heat wave during my stay so the swiss were so happy many turned out in shorts to enjoy those 2 days of freakishly warm weather. Temperature plummeted the next day, as you can see on my British airways video. Then it snowed, but I was gone by then.
Marvellous video Ryan! Switzerland is one of the countries I would like to visit in the future even though it is costly (I think it will be a fun challenge to budget a trip around this! 😊). That liver dish looks delicious and I think I would have a great time at Lindt (with all of the chocolates available!). About living in Switzerland, one of my relative’s friend decided to retire there and I was at awe with how financially savvy she is. Also she told me it helps that she lives near the German border and she takes a train (20mins to the next town) across the border to do her (I think weekly) shopping. Anyway, I always look forward to your videos while I watch them from sunny (and sometimes rainy) Singapore! 😊
Hey Ryan, you just made me itch for Switzerland again! Was there in 2022, and it was just when the Singapore government gave the green light for us to travel out. So out of the dying desire to get out, I stupidly (I really thought I was back then 😁) suggested to my wife to go to Switerland since it only required 2 Covid jabs (rather than 3 in many countries) even though I have heard of how expensive the country is. Once the tickets were booked, I began researching on places to go and as it went along, I started to regret my suggestion. Most youtube vids point to 1 thing - how to save money while you travel in the country....not a good hint isn't it? And I always wondered why would people return there repeatedly despite the high expenses? And so, it all began in Zurich. And our first outside meal there was by coincidence the HOLY COW!! And yes, the first taste of how dear prices were for a burger meal. But I'm glad it is still CHF 30 for a full meal since I was there ☺But the taste is not the same as the typical fast food burger chain. In Zurich city, we also visited the weekly markets and we took a tram to 1 of them at Lindenplatz as we wanted to get out of the city to see what the environment and houses looked like further away. And we had a little exercise walking 30 mins back to the city after that. Nice experience I must say. And in fact, througout the 10 days that we were in the country, we only went to Holy Cow and no other restaurant. Yes, the price is the deterring factor. Our other meals were mainly food bought from the supermarkets and cooked them with our portable electric cooker. I brought instant rice there too so that my Asian stomach won't grumble as we journey along. Guess what, in the midst of the trip, after travelling to places like the Grindelward and a few others, I told my wife that I can forgo other European countries but not Switzerland! And to end the trip, we had another Holy Cow meal at the airport costing us S$60 before we unwilling stepped onto the plane and left this beautiful country. So, it looks like I have to start planning for a revisit again and soon....😊
Hahahahaha... Glad I could rekindle these memories for you. I could easily do Zurich again. You have no idea how I saved for this trip, every 2 weeks I'd put aside a couple of hundred dollars over the course of a year. As you heard in the intro this is just one tiny part of a 2.5 week trip through EU. So I arrived in Zurich all ready to spend. It is a beautiful city, and the countryside... OMG - Not sure if you watched the train video before this, but the view of the snowy alps! I get excited still talking about it today! I've always been VERY curious about Switzerland because you know lah, school in Singapore that's all my principal talked about during assemblies... "The Swiss standard of living". So here I am some 40 years later getting wow'ed by this amazing but expensive country. 🤣
@@ryansofly Wow kudos to you for the perseverance in saving up for this trip! Well you know the Chinese saying - bitterness first, sweetness ensues 😄 And you were already exposed to the word Switzerland so early in life? Me being from a heartlander school would have more often heard things like "study hard so that you won't get in trouble with the ma ta (hokkien word for the Police)" hehe. Of course, I wateched every video of yours! The train rides out of Zurich will also be stunning to say the least. Try it if you are going there again in future. Keep going and looking forward to your vid on UK which is also on my to-go list. Cheers!
Wonderful video, Mr So. One thing I have been wondering... since I've been travelling, especially post -30s I've found I like longer in each destination , how did you find your timeline on this trip?
The main body of this trip was Malta. Everything else was just a side dish to bring us to our departure airport which was initially Zürich. Sooooooo expensive to fly to Australia from there, that's why we ended up returning home from London which cost 50% less. If I had it my way, I'd stay 3 to 4 days at each stop.
Zürich also has a thriving Techno clubbing scene. That's why the biggest Techno party is yearly in Zürich with about 900K to 1M attending yearly. The banking sector isn't as important to Zurichs economy as many believe. It's only a few percent of the GDP. Many other industries are more relevant to Zurichs prosperity. Zurich has one of the highest patent per capita ratios in the world. The world-class Universities there are a driver of this innovation, they're much more important than the banks that are largely foreign-owned and masters at tax "optimization" or as we call it, avoidance.
Funny you should mention the techno scene. I have a friend who's son decided to quit his job and became a DJ. He now shuttles between Zürich and Berlin.
I don't think you ate liver: That's looks more like Zürich Geschnetzeltes, which is regular veal in a creamy mushroom sauce. Usually, liver in Switzerland is not served in a creamy sauce, but with a herby, garlicy butter
My face when you went to Lindt: 😱 My face when you said UNLIMITED chocolate: 😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱🤤🤤🤤🤤🤤🤤🤤🤤 My face when you called out the apathetic colonisation of chocolate’s origins both then and still now: 😘✊🏽
Howdy Kate, hahahaha I knew that bit at Lindt would get your attention. Ghana is presently in a tug of war with Lindt because a cocoa plantation has been developed on reserved land. The normal court fights ensue.
@@ryansofly poor Ghana and all the other countries that have been slaughtered and enslaved for white privileged people to continue to pretend that because they don’t care, that none of us should. In this life or the next, the scales will be rebalanced, and they are in for a mighty shock. I thought the days of free chocolate let alone unlimited, were over. I remember hearing that Cadbury (no comparison to Lindt of course) in Melbourne used to give out free chocolate on their tours then stopped a while back now. I noticed you went for the dark chocolate too- that’s my favourite as well. 🙂
Really looking forward to this series.

Always nice to welcome a fellow Singaporean to my channel! Thanks for watching! Cheers!
Marvellous presentation Ryan, I should have been born into wealth, as Zurich seems my kind of town
You and me both, my friend! Lol... I could live in Zurich very easily.
