Thank you.. I was there for 2 weeks in September 2022, and I agree it’s the most beautiful time to visit. The weather was incredible, the scenery was heavenly. We stayed in Spiez for 5 days, and I fell in love with that town. It was so beautiful!! ❤️ We visited many of the hotspots like Lauterbrunnen, Zermatt, Lucern, Appenzell, Gruyères, but what I love the most are the small villages in the mountains that are off the beaten track. I already have a long list of places I want to see next time I come. I’m hoping and praying I can come back.

I have now been visiting Switzerland for over 50 years. I stay in one place (nowadays Zurich) but go out travelling every day using a First Class Swiss Travel Pass. The combination of the Swiss Travel Pass and the, fantastic taktfahrplan timetable means that I do not need a fixed plan as to where I am going. I have only a rough idea when I set out each morning. During the day I will often change my mind as to where i am going. It is so relaxing to be able to do this!. You do not have this wonderful flexibility if you buy tickets using a Half Fare Travel Card.

We just came back from Switzerland after 2 weeks travelling by train only around Zurich, Lucerne, Interlaken and St Moritz in May. We had tours booked but cancelled them as we found we could do it much cheaper and also got to the mountains early before the tourist groups. You have to be patient as the clouds come and go. The best part being not locked into a tour group was we could monitor the weather and usually we picked the right day. Totally agree about overpacking and layers is the way to go. The host for this channel is spot on and great video. Trains run spot on time as the Swiss are famous for so don't be late !!! Expensive absolutely but you would know that before taking on such a trip :)

My Mother was born in Zurich in 1910.
We went back to visit in 1972 and 1979.
My Mother spoke the Swiss Dialect
too, in addition to German and French.
Her older sister's son, my cousin, was
an MD in Bern and the US too.
He had a Chalet unit overlooking
Gstaad with a good restaurant in
the Swiss style at the Hotel Bernerhof.
Anyway, we enjoyed the scenery and
    food there very much.
It was fun to go up the Uitliberg near
Zurich by rail and boat on the Zurichsee by Zurich and to go to Rapperswil on the lake.
A friend of my Mother was from Zug,
and on Swiss Independence day at
the Swiss Home that used to be in
Mt Kisco, NY, the Swiss Ambassador
to the US would address us and we
could buy Zugger Kirschtorte, a cake,
    flown in from Switzerland.😊

Great video and the picture quality was amazing. We're planning a trip through Switzerland with stops in Zurich, Grindelwald, Brienz, and Luzern. We're considering a day trip to Zermatt but aren't sure if it's worth fitting into our schedule. I would go with the half fare card or look into berner oberland pass (which you can combine with half fare card also) 👌

Nice video, can you suggest is it worth buying Swiss travel pass or buying train or bus tickets separately worth ??

    • @SwitzerlandInsider
      @SwitzerlandInsider  5 หลายเดือนก่อน

It depends how much you will use it. If you stay like 4 day in Grindelwald and dont make much distance youll be better of with the Swiss Half Fare Card for Tourists for example. If you take the train everyday for an hour or more or you want convenience of not booking a ticket each time, then the travel pass might be more suitable!

My view of "checklist" or "hotspot" tourism is that yes, these places are overdone cliches, but usually for a reason because they usually ARE worth visiting, and you're missing out if you skip them because you don't want to be one of "those" tourists, but that just makes you a different kind of one of "those" tourists, the kind who intentionally skips famous sites thinking that it makes them hip and cool or something, when it doesn't. My view is visit these places, budget time and money for them because there's usually long lines and it costs a bit, but do visit them, and then you're done and can visit those off the beaten path places you've been dying to see. Don't try to be a "cool" tourist. There's no such thing.
