Ryan So Fly
Australia
เข้าร่วมเมื่อ 10 ก.ค. 2012
Welcome to my world. I fly, eat and stay... Originally from Singapore, I left the corporate world and all its madness behind, and migrated to Australia in 2013. Desperate to escape the rat race, getting on to the plane on that one-way ticket was the best decision in my life. Come and see the world through my eyes. And I would love to help you escape and forget the worries of life just for 20 minutes or so. Come and join me, won't you?
Although much of my focus have been on plane reviews, I've recently tried to expand my repertoire to include trains, food and hotel reviews as well. I do feel strongly that those genres I mentioned tend to go hand in hand as a travel junkie.
As a strong believer of "journey, not the destination", that is how I approach all my videos. As I try to grow this channel, hopefully you'll follow me on this journey.

Japan Airlines (JAL) is the flag carrier of Japan. JAL is headquartered in Shinagawa, Tokyo. Its main hubs are Tokyo's Narita and Haneda airports, as well as Osaka's Kansai and Itami airports.
As one of the top airlines of the world, JAL encompasses everything great about Japanese hospitality and showcases it in all it's complexity, over the top, elaborate and excessive service styles. Nothing is done in halves in Japan. They give it their all.
I dive into the pros and cons of this so come along with me and enjoy this video.

Looks like a wonderful flight (not to mention the food 🤤) with JAL. Shame about the transfer experience and lucky you speak Mandarin, as you say. That would have stressed me out. Haha
I think Noel Phillips recently did a similar thing through China. Had an absolute nightmare of a time as well !
Did he now! Which episode was this? I need to go watch a fellow sufferer! 😂
You can transfer from different airlines to different airlines at Terminal 2 which is not dominated by a single airlines but for some reason you cant in terminal 1 which is dominated by China Eastern
Yep, this is good to know... It's so strange though... Just behind these transfer counters are the escalators towards departure airside. And yet, we aren't allowed access.
Hey girlfriend!!!! It has been a while since I saw your videos and I certainly enjoyed this one. Nothing has changed... She loves to eat !!!
Howdy John! Haven't seen you in a while! Nice to hear from you again. You know me, I live to eat! 😀
Great clip, It's becoming like an Agatha Christie ad break..what comes next !! I am disappointed that you didn't try an International dish on JAL, which would have pleased me. Miko sounds adorable x
Hahahahaha all part of a grand plan with cliff hangers to keep everyone engaged! Nah, the international dish was a hambagu. I've had one too many hambagu's during my stay in Japan. Think the Washoku was waaaaaaaaaay more interesting on this menu.
Your delay was horrible! If it were me I'll be having anxiety attack already 😂
@@cheryll8008 yeah la, Chinese flights are always like that. Especially via their major airports.
Ryan it's straightforward North America connections dominating Haneda Airport simply explained as oneworld Alliance JL AA future HA vs Star Alliance UA/NH. What you could have done was China Eastern SkyTeam Alliance Tokyo Shanghai Taipei you don't have to deal with the mess if they can't put you on to China Eastern SkyTeam Alliance would provide you another route to reach TPE. Knew this from my parents Star Alliance reroute EWR-MNL via LAX/HND original plan second reroute option was EWR-LAX-TPE-MNL and then fixed to reach Japan original stopping point this time NRT. For an apex suit which one would you choose Korean Air Light Blue seat or JL version? Happy New Year Ryan from EWR/JFK Airports
Yeah this mess of a connection was arranged for by QANTAS. So I went into it not knowing what to expect. But damn... What a mess it was. Made for some great content though! 😂

Hahaha you're right - But it's the Japanese who eat very healthy and live long. All that seafood! I grew up in Singapore, all that chilli, coconut milk and curry goes to my hips! 😄
Why are Chinese airlines so warm and dont have vents?
Not just Chinese, but most north Asian airlines don't have air vents. My guess is people in that region like it warm.
Thank you for sharing this. I am the bright red haired person after minute 6 ;) It s the only day since forever in which I am wearing baggy blue jeans..
Hahaha no kidding! 😂

Ha! Thank you! 😊
Can confirm sky security officers have been on all my long haul flights with China Eastern, Sichuan Airlines, Air China and Hainan Airlines. Not sure about short haul and domestic.
Numerous respondents have mentioned they're also found on short haul and domestic flights.
found flight from Amsterdam to Jakarta with transit 1hour 25mins at CAN, will i make it because at CAN we will have to again check passport, check bags and all? whats your opinion about that. and i am afraid if i lose my connecting flight and i dont speak mandarin
If the airline sold you that connection, they're responsible for making sure you make the flights. CZ-CZ international connections in CAN are seamless as everything is in one terminal. You'll be fine.
@@ryansofly thanks this is very helpful
Going to Japan in a month, this is just what I needed to hype me up for my trip!
Ha thanks! I'm envious... Let me know how your trip goes! 🤠
From what I understand, in bigger cities, people don't care about the eating while walking situation. Smaller, traditional cities are the ones that frown down on that. Also, I believe that it is perfectly acceptable to get the food, and stand close by and eat it, it's more the action of eating while walking that is looked down upon.
Indeed... There are so many unspoken rules which I was mindful about during my stay in Japan. And this was one of them. The other one was wearing sunglasses.
"I can't believe I'm doing breakfast number two" .... oh yes Ryan, I can believe that. Just loving your content. Thanks Again Ryan.
Hahahaha you know me well. 💯🤤

Great video Ryan, the only disappointing part was when you mentioned the drunk aussie women before lunch .
I was in two minds whether or not to film their antics. They were loud, almost yelling as they took selfies after selfies as they stumbled along.
Ryan, a brilliant overview of the wonders of Tokyo’s food scene! Your advice regarding the Tokyo Subway is so right…look for colours and numbers…we did and from Tokyo Station to Shinjuku we had no problem, and, were never lost or disoriented. The Japanese are so good at these station maps and guidance. Also agree as in we were not daunted by the numbers of commuters at Tokyo Station but in aware of the food choices! I’ve meant to comment before on your attention to pronunciation of languages, it’s so respectful of you and noted in your vlogs. Like you we found Google translate and the patience of Japanese people overcame language issues. As always looking forward to the next instalment 🤗
Glad you enjoyed the food tour! It's a joy to share my love of Tokyo with the world. I'm EXTREMELY mindful about trying to pronounce local names properly. Google vocalises Japanese so it helps tremendously. If I can't do it, then I won't say it. ☺️
"Overstaffed abd unmotivated" I'm a close aquaintance with a Vietnam Airlines hiring manager and we were shooting the shit the other day. In the interview they have a question that goes "why did you pick us over other Vietnamese airlines" and i shit you not the most common answers were along the lines of "It's the National Airline so it's cooler"
Well what other airlines in Vietnam can they choose from? VietJet/Pacific is low cost, Bamboo is on life support... So if they want prestige, there's really only VN. I've also been told getting a job in VN requires connections. Any truth to that?
I manifest to visit Melbourne in the future.

Thank you! It's my pleasure to bring you the joy of trains!
This comment is probably a little late. I have been watching a good railway series on TH-cam. The creator is a Frenchman who covers European, American and other countries' fast rail, and they are really fast. I used to travel on sleeper services in Australia many decades ago. I too feel Australian rail services need to catch up quite quickly if possible.
Australian infrastructure is ALWAYS lagging behind. It's very 3rd world.
China Southern is very good compared to other Chinese airlines. Best service and quality of on board amenities and food. I choose this one to fly indirect instead of a direct flight with China Eastern. They are that good.
Glad to hear you had a good experience with them.

Consistent, excellent video Ryan. We traveled Tokyo to Hakodate on the Hayabusa clocking 324 mph at one point…a breathtaking experience which left us in awe of this remarkable engineering feat. I thought the Green Car was worth the extra cost…these cars are said to be quieter but of course extra comfortable seats and food service was a nice inclusion. Then as foodie, to experience an Ekiben (bento) shop with so many choices and so inexpensive was definitely the icing on the cake! Taking these food options onto the train seemed odd at first as the trains are so immaculate, however, it soon felt absolutely right and we enjoyed some great dishes. Looking forward to your next instalment 🤗
I'd do the green car again in a heartbeat. It's so comfy. Although the KTX in Korea is a lot smoother. I was so excited during the ride I totally forgot about ordering food from the QR code in the train.
@ Yes, I realised after writing my comment that not having experienced other high speed trains in Asia there are more impressive rail systems to experience! I like how in Japan that new Shinkansen routes are bringing economic growth to rural areas that have been in recession….something Australia should take note of.
@@james7149 yes, the current global HSR hotspot is unsurprisingly CHINA. They surpassed Japan in 2011 in ridership numbers and have continued to outdo themselves year on year. It's incredible what's happening in that country. I do want to ride the Chinese HSRs at some point.
@ Agree, as it’s hard to comprehend what the Chinese are achieving in engineering, including high speed rail in the Himalaya’s!
It was until the airline reformed itself from top to bottom, they fired the pilots who could not pass the simulator test, and fired the execs that allowed the shitty pilots in. They haven't had a crash since the 2000s.
Funny enough, my family flew CI very regularly in the 80s. Suppose ignorance is bliss.
@@ryansofly I mean I flew China airlines a lot in the 90s when I was a kid, guess I was lucky.
Can I ask did you utilize the free stop over that china southern offers for transit passengers with a connection of between 6hrs and 20hrs as long as the next flight is on the same ticket?? I am tempted to fly China Southern for my Holiday in March 2025 - Melbourne to Phuket and the connection is 16hrs going there and 12hrs coming back. I had a read on the website of China Southern and they are first come first serve at the transit desk. I wonder what the rooms are like.
@@thejugshow best way to verify is to call the airline up. When I did it this free stopover wasn't available. But the airport hotel was very reasonably priced. You can view it from the video link below. th-cam.com/video/PFcc2b4HwQ0/w-d-xo.htmlsi=jEGzqPW-32UEF_ey

Yummmm Unagi - I'm with you. So cheap too. I went on this train a decade plus ago. I remember bentos being sold on the train but I was too ashamed to try the phrasebook and order. Also getting whiplash trying to watch the scenery whipping past at 300km. Nowadays I'll just settle for the Sydney Metro and its ludicrously fast 100kms burst for 30 seconds.
I chuckled at the Sydney train comment. Our public transportation here is just shameful. Even Jakarta fares better than Sydney with public transports!
