What was special about Mozart's ear?

Though we have no photographs of Mozart, it is believed that his ears were uniquely deformed. Mozart seems to have hidden his bulging, almost square-shaped ears behind powdered wigs (which were fashionable during his life). We know about Mozart’s unique ears largely thanks to a drawing the composer made, comparing his son’s ear to an ordinary ear. Today, “Mozart Ear” is often used as a catch-all term for deformed or abnormal ears. Clearly, the physical appearance did nothing to compromise Mozart’s musical ear!
