    To be honest a lot of these footballer compilations annoy me in the way they’re edited. You’d probably get a truer reflection of the footballers ability by watching like a “top 20 Ronaldo goals” video or something. Like sure, that wouldn’t show off all their skill, but it would take away the annoying music and editing etc 😂

  • @ShellysAshes
    @ShellysAshes 2 ปีที่แล้ว +9

    For penalties then yes, the goalkeeper picks a side and guesses, as it's basically impossible to react to a competently struck penalty. The best takers also advocate choosing a side before you take the penalty and not changing your mind, as a lot of bad penalties happen through indecision, like a player deciding to switch sides halfway through the runup. The best penalty takers and GKs will do homework though to identify tendencies of their opponent and make a better informed decision.

    Cristiano Ronaldo is the best ever striker for me, Messi is the best ever player. Ronaldo has evolved a lot during his career, from being an unfinished but very technical and fun winger to being the absolute goal machine he is today. Messi is more of a "natural" footballer, his play style has pretty much stayed unchanged his whole career. Ronaldo is an absolute workaholic (ofcourse with a lot of talent), and have worked hard for every inch of his success.
    For me Messi is the best, the things he can do with a football is absolute unheard of, and everyone who has played football at some sort of professional or semiprofessional level would agree.
    Both players has ofcourse gained massively from the competition between them, and i think that have pushed them to these insane levels that we have seen the last 15 years. Both players is the absolute goats, and you have to enjoy them while you still can.
    Great reactions guys, would love to see a reaction of Erling Haaland or Zlatan Ibrahimovic.
    Cheers from Norway. :)

    For penalties, top-level goalkeepers often do a lot of work studying their opponents, watching footage and trying to understand what direction they go most commonly. They also do tend to try a lot of psychological games on the line, like talking to the penalty-taker or gesturing in a certain direction to try to make them second-guess which way to go.
    But there is a lot of luck in it for a keeper. They do their research, they try to get the psychological edge, but ultimately they need to make a decision and commit to it.
    There's also a trend in modern-players to do stuttery little run-ups to penalties in the hope the keeper will dive before the ball's hit, allowing them to just slot it in the other side.

    • @lauz-im3ov
      @lauz-im3ov 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Much as it pains me to recommend this considering the outcome, you might want to watch the penalty shoot out from the Euro 2020 final between England and Italy. Two good goalkeeping performances, some good penalties and some terrible ones.
      Pickford repeating "no problem, no problem" to himself before saving Jorginho's penalty is particularly entertaining, and perhaps an example of how much of it is psychological.

    • @charlesward4314
      @charlesward4314 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Good example of a keeper getting the edge over the penalty taker is Jerzy Dudek against Shevchenko in the 2005 Champions League Final between Liverpool and AC Milan. On average 15% of penalties are saved (UK stats). In EPL history keepers with the best ratios include Rob Green and Heurelho Gomes

    It's a good question Daniel,regarding the goalkeeper.Yes,the gk decides which way to go before the ball is kicked.He'll look at the run up of the penalty taker,body language etc.Gk's will also do research regarding penalty takers of teams (mostly,each team will have a designated penalty taker but not always).I used to take penalties for my teams and give the goalie 'the eyes',meaning I purposefully look at one corner of the goal,hoping the keeper's watching,and then put it the other side.Some guys,knowing the gk will dive one way or another,will simply blast it down the middle which carries its own risks.During a penalty shoot out at the end of a game ,it's been known for gk's to have a list of players on their water bottles and which side they've hit penalties in the past..keep up the good work chaps

  • @richardcook9794

    The goalie picks up on subtle clues like the angle of the foot, if they are leanning back (high shot) or is the knee over the ball if the shoot is with the inside out side of the foot or through the laces , it is the goal scorers job to disguise or beat them with swerve or power, hence why they call it the beautiful game

    As a goalie myself, I can definitely say : when the penalty taker puts the ball down and walks slowly back, you can
    „read „the way he stands to the ball. One direction is easier for the way he stands. Now there are mindgames…does he commit to this side or not.

  • @Ozzpot
    @Ozzpot 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    The thing is about penalty kicks is; human reaction time is about the same as the travel time of the ball, struck hard, from the spot to the goal. So if a goalkeeper waits to se which way the ball is going, by the time they have started to dive in that direction it's already past them. So what they have to do is guess which way the penalty taker will shoot for, and dive just as they are about to hit it. This is why you see goalkeepers diving "the wrong way".
    There have been goalkeepers who stick to the "wait and see" method, They have appalling penalty save statistics. Case in point, Peter Shilton, a legendary, record-breaking goalkeeper. Holds the record for the most competitive appearances in the world, at 1,390. Ranked among the top ten goalkeepers of the 20th century. Played for over 30 years. A true legend.
    But waited to see which way the ball would be hit, and saved - in his entire career - 3 penalties. At one point he went 17 years without saving a single one. So as you can see, guessing which way it will go might look stupid to the uninitiated, but it is the best way to do it.

    The goal keeper does commit to a side. There are analysts in the team who calculate opponent players favorite side of the goal.
    There is an instance that happened during world cup where the goal keeper was given a paper with list of opponent players and their favorite sides. Before the last shot he takes out the paper from his socks(i think) and reads it and guesses the direction of the shot accurately.

    Most pro gks will do their research about what side the penalty taker prefers to shoot and will dive that way. Either way it is still hard to save a shot as a gk

    goal keepers can do some of the following for penalty : 1) they watch the kickers eyes to get a direction 2) they can watch the run up to the ball, a player who's runs up has more curve in the runup stage will tend to go to keepers right most probably. 3) good goal keepers will have re-searched and watched loads hours of previous games play of the teams kickers and their trends in direction. 4) last thing keepers can do is almost like dance moves to distract the player.
    In a Pen-shoot out the game of bluff come to play as well. kickers should score 9/10 penalty

    Penalty takers normally have a fav side, so if a keeper does his homework on the next pen taker he’s facing it might just help.

    Hey guys, I'm having fun working through your back catalogue 😉
    Good question about football goalkeepers - do they choose a side or simply react? Well, I'm thinking we're talking about a penalty situation here. In football, the penalty spot is 12 yards from the goal line. Some goalies will commit to covering as much of part of the goal as possible, some will wait and see if they can read the penalty taker's intention. It's very much a psychological thing as well as a physical thing.
    Loving your work, keep going. Best wishes.

    Goalies usually do try to anticipate which direction the attacker will shoot, however hitting it in the top corners is very risky and hard to pull off so they usually stand more chance and most people go low to the left or right.

    Goalkeepers tend to do their homework on opposing strikers in the event they may have to defend a penalty, most of the time they will commit to the strikers favoured side.
    They will also try to pick up on tells as the striker approaches the ball. but it 90% guess work

    Goalies do their home work on which side someone usually shoots the penalty, they try and read the run up to decide which way to dive too.

  • @Rob_Infinity3
    @Rob_Infinity3 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    2:20 - Yeah, most of the time goalies have to pick a side to dive and commit to it. But also they do watch compilations of their opponents penalties to see if they favour shooting to the left or to the right more et cetera. Players can sometimes give away which way they're going to shoot with their body language. But they can also fake out the goalie with it too.

    On penalty kicks the goalie commit to a side before the ball is hit, because the shot is taken so close to him.
    If he waits to commit after the shoot is taken, it's too late. that why u see goalies pick the wrong side sometimes on penalty kicks.

    Love these videos. About the penalty and the goalie. Goalies don't just randomly pick a spot. They try and guess where the taker will shoot and this is based on things like body movement of the shooter and goal keepers study videos of those who are the main penalty takers. Still hard to guess which way though. Talk about assistance, he's just as much of a goal scorer, one of the best in that area also, breaking record like in the recent European Cup, most goals scored in that competition. He's such an all rounder. He's a jack of all traders and master of them all. If he was in a jrpg game, he'd be the end of game final boss.
    If you were to watch a full match you will see he spends quite a lot of time on the ground. But this is because no one can get the ball from him so he's fouled a lot. Manchester United sold him for £80 million ($129 million at that time) he wanted to leave to pursue over things but I wish we (united) paid him to stay.
    One play that should have made the cut was the important header for man united against Roma. The ball crossed into the box (Ronaldo not even there in tbe box) and from nowhere like some sort of marvel hero. Ronaldo bombs into tbe box and heads the ball in the back of the net. There was so much force he injured himself. Paul Scholes said it was the best header he had ever seen. th-cam.com/video/mUPw47DlZEA/w-d-xo.html
    I can see you guys expressing your disbelief and amazement for his skill. I dont watch American football yet if i saw NFL best plays i would recognise how good they were.

    at 2:27 there are times when a player looks like they will shoot in one direction based on their body language, and that's why some goalies end up defending the wrong side. It's kinda like a fake-out though some aren't intentionally faking.

    A GK on a penalty will usually choose side by looking at the body movement leading up to the shot, the shooters eye-direction, leading foot, because right footed players tend to shoot left and left footed to the right, because the way your body turns, when you shoot, .. and then on top of that, GK's study up on potential penalty takers, on where they usually shoot and etc etc etc ... there's a lot going in to it .. and in the end it is completely depending on which kind of GK you are.. :)

    To answer your penalty kick question about the goalkeeper: it depends. If you know the player who's shooting, you know his stats, you go when he's most likely to shot. If you don't know him you try to read him based on where he's looking, how's his run, what position is his body in. If you fail any of those, you pick a corner and hope for the best.
    You'd notice jumping for a high corner is a more unique than rare thing, that's because shots at the high corners are basically unblockable, and most players will shot low because it's easier to control the ball, you only have to worry about the horizontal plane, not if it's too high.

    With penalties, a lot of it is guesswork from the keeper, but nowadays they tend to study if the taker prefers a certain area/side of the goal, and some might have a tell. But as it’s such a short distance between the penalty spot and the goal (12 yards), you’ve got to decide beforehand which way you’re diving or you won’t get there in time

    in the penalty kick that you did the question if you commit or not it depends. i was a semi proffessional goallie , and half the times you can read them where they are gonna hit it or not, from where they focus their eyes or the posture , but if i knew a guy doesnt have a great shooting power or couldnt read it i would probably wait and react , cause i had pretty fast reactions so it was helping me
