I worked as a staff writer for an enthusiast PC hardware magazine in the 2000's. We had sophisticated benchmarks for easily quantifiable things such as RAM, hard disk, CPU performance etc, but when it came to peripherals, when we simply felt like two pieces of hardware were offering roughly the same performance, we were confident enough to say "no real world difference" or something similar, and give mice or keyboards etc the same performance score. We asked ourselves if it was possible to be more scientific, we usually concluded yes, but we didn't have enough time or expertise to build a fair testing rig, and that was for a large professional team working at a publishing house. This video especially makes me feel like back then we were letting our readers down a little and stifling the efforts of independent engineers. The fact you built a rig with a slow motion camera to test your initial hypothesis, is unbelievably good, in a world where it feels like TH-cam content is in a race to the bottom in terms of shortcuts and clickbait, you are raising the game. Well done. I'm sure your audience, and the hardware developers who put incredible efforts into their design, are all incredibly thankful for your efforts.

The main thing i like about wooting is the software. Everything saving to the keyboard itself, being able to use it in a browser if you dont want to download it. Its so refreshing. All the big companies forcing you to have their bloatware open 24/7 for features is really getting to me.

I agree, I'm still using a membrane razer keyboard, but honestly I've been looking to get a new keyboard not just for better switches, but to say goodbye to the awful software that can be finicky at times and is just 1 extra process added to the startup. I'm also using a Razer Lancehead TE which is great for the most part, but I underestimated how awful an ambidextrous mouse would feel in hand (at least the shape that they chose), the underside of the right click bothers my ring finger and both my ring and pinky finger drag on the mousepad from the way I hold the mouse.

The SteelSeries software has likely been written in Electron (the same technology that vscode and discord use). There's another Rapid Trigger keyboard that I don't think is particularly well known because its a newer company, its called the Drunkdeer A75, it uses magnetic switches just like the wooting and features a rapid trigger feature, but lacks the analog inputs of the wooting. Some older reviews of this keyboard are outdated because of how much the software for this keyboard has been developed; Old reviews claim that the keyboard does not have a true rapid trigger, which was true at the time, but the feature was since patched in. I would love to see you test this keyboard because there's not a lot of info out there on it, but I believe it to be an excellent option for anyone wanting a rapid trigger at a much lower price point than the wooting. Its also a 75% which is a preferred format for some people.

This is the first thig I noticed while was gaming on a mechanical keyboard. The travel distance is too long from bottom to the actuation point. This was especially noticed in moments where you should burst some key as fast as you can. (Like putting money in a bag during robbery in GTA Online) I solved this by putting o-rings on keycups. I don't understand why they don't box those o-rings as an optional accessory with keyboards on linear switches. But yeah, having that programmable distances is really cool feature if you have money for that.

The amount of class from these videos is insane. You go out of your way to explain everything you did and present the details for them in easy to read graphs. Because of you, I didn't buy a certain mouse upgrade because of the wireless polling issues. I'm using a Logitech superlight, but it's got a slight amount of drift that I notice with my aiming, and I've been considering a change. Coming here first is now mandatory when it comes to a peripheral upgrade.

@@rustler08 Sorry, drift is probably the wrong word. The movement isn't 1:1? Like, sometimes I flick or move my mouse fast enough, and it doesn't go the intended distance, and then sometimes it overshoots the intended target. I play osu when I'm having a bad day and you really start to notice the polling issues.
Optimum made a video regarding wireless mice a while ago and explains the polling issues in there, that's what the mouse is currently doing.

But honestly if you want to make an investment with a keyboard getting a wooting and custom keycaps and aluminum case is the way to go. The software is great and if you don’t want to install anything you can just use the browser version. Hearing the steel series missing the arrow tap functionality is also a big miss tapping keys for something like arrows is very important for a 60% keyboard you don’t realize how many keys that you use every day are missing on a 60% keyboard until they are not there.

Availability and hall effect switches are why I bought the 2023 apex pro tkl back in january just waiting for the inevitable rapid trigger implementation. In raw performance, it's about the same just with less customisation and bloaty software but that's about it. Personally I dont care at all about double keys and haven't seen a reason to want to lower rapid strigger sensitivity besides turning it straight off on shift like most people do so the form factor outweights the much cleaner software for me. It was also mitigated by learning to disable so much of the garbage too I will say but that requires a time investment that most understandably don't want to make.

The problem I have with rapid keyboards is the sensitivity which causes accidental inputs on adjacent keys when typing. I have the Corsair rapid fire and it's just frustrating. Especially with it's heavy metal body and pointy corners that gouge into my mouse when I accidentally bump into it. I would like the sensitivity at the bottom/end of the press not at the top/start of the press. Also why does every keyboard have to reverse the the position of the shift keys? They're meant to be at the top of the key face not the bottom.
