Feeling kind'a sorry for Logi as I do appreciate them for some of their product offerings, but after watching this video and not being able to come up in my head with one single argument to contest any of the reasoning being exposed here, it is even more painful. You're undoubtedly right in sharing your frustration and disappointment, especially after having spent $180 US plus tax for this. And then the claims; and then the press release; and then the PRO part; and then the inability to mod it; and then... oh boy. Please tell me you did not pay for this out of your own pocket. Informative video and entertaining as always. Luv 🥰

So the really cool thing about Logitech software, is that the new control panel doesn't support older devices, which means you need to have the old Logitech control panel installed for those devices.
    Sounds like a minor inconvenience?
Well, you can't have both installed at the same time. You get to choose either the newer devices, *or* the old ones. So if you have an old racing wheel and a new mouse, you're SOL.

@@OceanBagel it's not skimping lol. it's the layout.. people choose 60%, 75%, 85% tkl ect. i prefer 60% as well, to save space on my mouse pad and because it's very easy to reach across the keyboard with one hand. i have a very large mouse pad so space isn't an issue, i just don't really need the arrow keys. the function key combined with the 4 "functional arrow" keys is fine. i almost never use arrow keys anyway, so the few times i need to, ill just hit function. a good 60% board will have a fn key on both left and right side though. annoying when it's only on the right hand side.
also there are zero games that are unplayable with a 60% layout. at least not in my experience. the"missing" keys are are replaced with a function key and some keys on the board double as one of those "missing" keys when FN key is held down.
most gamers prefer the compact keyboards these days. i cant remember the last time i saw a full sized keyboard with a second number pad. so gross lookin

    • @panvlk
      @panvlk 8 หลายเดือนก่อน

@@strayiggytv Tbh the "nameless chinese products" pretty much caught up with the big boys now when it comes to the mice. And they evolve much much faster than the dinosaurs like Logitech and Razer. Logitech released GPX2 with a big fanfare recently, and it's basically just a GPX1 copy with USB-C and 2000MHz polling rate. And they spent years making it. Brands like Lamzu, Pulsar, Vaxee and others are releasing tons of great mice frequently, around half the price, full of latest tech, 8000MHz sensors, optical switches and encoders, super light weight, hot swappable switches etc. Logitech is living off their past fame, but they aren't the inovators in the mouse market anymore either.

I remember when optical switches were semi-new technology for gaming keyboards. I had just started learning about custom keyboards but didn't find any switches I thought would actually be slightly better for gaming so I made the mistake of buying a £210 keyboard from Razer (i know razer is one of the worst, it was just the software I already had for my mouse so decided to get one of their optical switch keebs). It was also the first linear switch keyboard I had ever had. I was so excited for it and I remember the disappointment when I unboxed it and typed on it for the first time. I expected the switches to at least be lubed as it was so expensive but it had nothing. I thought because it was linear, it would sound a little nicer than my old tactile keyboard (I generally prefer the sound of linear switches but this is preference and switches aren't the main factor for sound) but again, I was disappointed. I was fully coping with the fact I had spent so much on a keyboard I wasn't impressed with by any means but I had to stick with it because I was broke and couldn't afford another one and didn't have the means of returning it.
I now have a Wooting and was so impressed with the keyboard I bought 2. There is 0 excuse for these top brands to be pushing such low quality keyboards both in materials and technology. If any gamers out there are looking for a new keyboard, I cannot recommend Wooting enough. They sound 1000x better than any gaming keyboard from one of these top gaming brands, the technology is so advanced nobody has been able to beat them yet (albeit not from a lack of trying, logitech got close but still no dice) which make for a better gaming experience and you have the option to dip your toes into custom keyboards with them as they are easy to mod, they have a hotswap PCB so you can try a few switches, change out the case etc etc. Their own stock keyboards are great as they are though so it's also no issues if you just want to keep it as it is. The input lag is almost non-existent (I never realised how much input lag my old keebs had until I got one of these) along with rapid trigger making jiggle peaking a lot easier and snappier. All for the same price as one of these "pro" keyboards
It's not going to make you a pro. No keyboard will. But at least Wooting will get you closer to your skill potential

Would like to point out that the keyboard case is cheap trash that you can buy premade with customized logos for about 1000 buckaroonies for 100 pieces or there about. You essentially start with a flat sandwich that gets heat formed, to which then they either glue or use a shoe type sewing machine to sew on the zipper. The whole op is less than 5 minutes per case and can be done with stuff you have at home you so desire.

I've tried optical switches and currently use them on my daily driver (Hunstman Tournament Edition), but they took so much getting used to. Took me a few months to really get used to the actuation points especially since it actuates BEFORE the click... it doesn't have the same forced feedback as your standard set. However I think some of these companies are marketing optical as 'gamer' due to how highly sensitive they can end up being, and that is such a bad reason to give it the 'gamer' tag. It kind of makes the keyboard harder to really use (esp if you need to smash a key) until you get used to the very sensitive and rather high actuation point (it's way further up then you'd think so spamming the key like a normal switch does nothing as it thinks you've still depressed the key). I can only assume this has similar flaws, and pair that with the price tag and cheap materials? Yikes.... I think mine was closer to $80 at the time. I can see why everyone is calling it a scam. Logitech really messed up here. Not to mention proprietary switches for that cost? Insane.

The issue with a big company doing mechanical keyboards that are good enough for enthusiast is repair/replacement costs.
The “standard” hot swap system is great, but it is something that is hard to “automate” to mass produce and they are prone to ma factoring errors where the socket is not 100% aligned and so they pop off when the user installs a switch….meaning they face a choice to either have a generous refund policy or to have angry customers. It just makes sense to try to come up with a “new and innovative” switch system.
What I’m getting at…they just won’t be able to make something that is cheap enough to hit the “mass market” represented by people who want a good keyboard for gaming but has the quality expected by a keyboard enthusiast.

but some caveats i suppose, if you're buying from a company where their entire point of existence is to provide fully customizable/build your own keyboards, then it kinda makes sense.

They can't really wrap their corporate mainstream brains and processes around super niche wants and needs because everything kind of has to fit into their top-down approval process. And a lot of the times, most of the people making the decisions are people who are focused more on numbers and their own personal preferences than what the target audience actually wants, which is sad.

Logitech's board feels like a direct copy of analog board, but being nearly worse then one even I own. I think the main benefit of this would be how compact it is with the side wheels in addition to good lighting and maybe ok response times (though wired) or click feel, but still it feels like a dated keyboard releasing in the current era. My assumption is that they had ideas of releasing and 60% but forgot years ago and are just trying to compete with the better more sophisticated brands. I'm still convinced that they only knew what they were doing years ago when making stuff like the g502 and other peripherals back then. In fact their bigger older boards are prob cheaper and give better performance for the price.

I basically know nothing about keyboards, but at least i know that a clear key, is going to have a massive hot spot, just make it frosted and be done with it.
Heck i got these keycaps for my logitech G610 called 'blue pudding' i had no idea what that meant but they look great on this keyboard, except most of the non letter/number keys wouldnt fit so i had a mix of blue keycaps with whilte fog bases, surrounded by black keycaps with terrible hot spots on the font. for things like enter, shift, alt and space.

should take a look at the g pro x, hotswappable key switches, but the entire bottom row and other special keys are proprietary sizing / stab distance, so you cant get replacement keys for it, cheapest material used

The thing is a dust and bug Magnet just going by how much space under the keys there are for critters to get into. It should come with a membrane keyboard cover at least.

Hipyo! Can you please make a video on rating foldable keyboards, good mechanical keyboards to travel with and traveling cases?

I love(d) Logitech for their infinite scrollwheel for ages but due to Logitech's repeated issue with the middle mouse click dying (I went through G502 Heros), I am now using the Razer Basilisk V3 which ALSO has infinite scrollwheel and so far so good.
I do miss the metal wheel though and the extra snipe button is too far away for my thumb :(
Can't seem to have everything I want in one mouse sadly.

The cheap plastic case with metal top reminds me of the original Corsair K60, a board which I did really enjoy for the long while I had it, but had the weird quirk of not every key being mechanical (I assume because it was too old to have non-Cherry switches)

Ironically, I just bought a new Logi mechanical keyboard a few days ago, and it was because the last one I had (another almost identical Logi, but without backlight) was really good, and still working after 4 years (turns out it just needed some cleanup with alcohol). The thing is that I'm talking about the cheaper models that doesn't even have Cherry-mx switches. When it comes to mouses I have been very disappointed. Overall I think they are abusing the brand name and slowly running out of good products.

As someone who bought the G910 tkl wireless - and loved it - having since then delved deeper into the custom keybaord era and areas - I have seen the glaring disparity on quality that logitech has taken. The rattley keycaps - when I got it i was placebo'd into it because of the price I was paying and the combo that I got. I have since moved on from it (which i feel really ashamed to admit because I did love the keyboard initially, the low profile keys, wireless that never failed and the layout and tactile style of it) and then - Ive found myself ive bought 4 boards since, a mix of custom and prebuilt with different styles etc (switches, build material etc)
PS - wish I had kept my previous boards for your Boardwalk - traded them into my local cash converters cus i needed stuff to fund - oh well there go the Steelseries and Corsair keyboards I had laying around as 'spares' hehheh..ahhaah...hahaha...spares....keybaords...hahahah

I NEED that side volume knob in my life.
On a real 65% custom that runs QMK, is wireless and doesn't have terrible latency.
    One can dream, I guess.

One of keyboard i buy from logitech is the g13 at launch date. Still used it after more then a decade.
They should make a newer version of the g13 imo.

The sad thing is for the around same price you can get:
Drunkdeer A75 (75% Hall Effect Rapid Trigger Hotswap)
Steelseries Apex Pro Mini (60% Hall Effect Rapid Trigger)
Razer Huntsman 75% (75% Optical Switch)
    Wooting 60HE
Logitech should just really stick to mice when it comes to gaming stuff, they got that at least close to nailed down. Despite taking a while to implement USB C onto their flagship, hid 4k Polling until a year into the products lifecycle, and put probably the most horrendous PTFE skates I have ever felt onto a mouse.

This is pretty on par with most mainstream keyboards. I'm so glad people like you are out here on TH-cam talking about this. Keyboards could be so much better than they are today, and these big manufacturers could do SO MUCH MORE. Instead, let's just keep supporting these smaller keyboard makers that are pushing out amazing products!

Their wireless mice have been a sign of the direction the company was going for awhile now. They started using switches rated at a different voltage than the batteries, which was causing their infamous double click issue, and then gaslit their customers saying that it wasn't an issue with the mouse and people were reading too much into it.
I can't say I'm even a little surprised with how this keyboard went.
