I like Steelseries a lot. I'm also danish, so I grew up with their stuff being pushed heavily on the early Scandinavian pro gaming scene, like the Icemat, Steelpad and Qck literally 20+ years ago before they were even called Steelseries. They've innovated with mousepads, keyboards and affordable gaming headsets and definetly had their ups and downs when it comes to quality. Them cutting corners here does not come as a surprise as their products have been very hit and miss for years. I switched to Logitech a few years ago, but i've been looking at some of their stuff cause it seems to be great value as long as you don't buy the flagship keyboards.

Only problem is the buttons got real shiny on the ones I use the most. and the space bar gets rattly sometimes. but the thing has survived alot of abuse I didn't think RGB dying on a kb was really a thing. Its a shame it wasn't that well received. the only KB G.Skill make now is a $50 65% kb, the km250 which just came out a couple weeks ago. pudding caps and kaihl reds with I think 68 keys including volume control. Interesting review, thanks so much for your insight😁. I felt that the steel series Apex 7 or Apex pro were my choices for a new keyboard. But after doing some research about faulty components and now that the pro isn't what it seems. Funny how theres a really good sale on Steel series keyboards in my area. I may have to rethink, any other keyboards that you would recommend? Or is the Steelseries Apex 7 still alright?

@Too Much Tech. You answered your own question. The reason why those "competitive" oriented switches ( magnetic / rapid trigger ) are not present on the entirety of the keyboard is two-fold. 1 ) they are not needed and 2 ) the cost savings of not having to populate the keyboard with additional keys is passed on to the consumer. I just picked the 2023 TKL wired version up for $125 when it was on sale very briefly not long ago. BTW, more manufactures will be introducing magnetic switch based keyboards in 2024. A few videos were recently shared with me and can you say "gasket magnetic thocky volume knob" 3 x real fast? LOL. Good things coming.

I picked up an Arctis Nova 7X headset and was looking to unify some hardware with a new keyboard and its interesting to see Steelseries still isn't giving customers what they want even though the keyboard space is getting so competitive. Guess I am skipping Steelseries for another 5 years or more, again.

Nice review! But it looks more like an opinion on what prices Steelseries should charge for their different models and how much they should be differentiated. Which leaves me a bit confused - one complain is that a lower priced model has inferior RGB (not sure why it is part of this review), another is that this high priced model looks much like a lower priced model. So, not sure if they should differentiate less on more.

Been waiting for this review. I recently bought the wired version, but had to return it due to the shift keys feeling as if they were rubbing against something, especially the left one. I exchanged it for another one, but haven't even opened the box, because I wanted to hear your opinion of the board. The board does feel lighter and cheaper than I thought it would. But not being a kb enthusiast, it sounded much better, and the keys feel much smoother, than the Corsair K70 tkl I use.
I'm also considering the Wooting 60he instead, though I'm wary of having to pay full price up front, but having to wait a couple of months (barring unforseen setbacks) to receive the board.
But yeah, this thing's going back to Best Buy tomorrow. 😄

2:17 I my HUMBLE opinion I think it is not necessary to have a whole 84 (apex pro tkl doesn't have print screen, scroll lock and pause break button) omnipoint switches. Why do you need them for your arrow keys? Who plays using arrow keys in almost 2023, 99.99999999% of people use them only with youtube. I am even glad they put them only in the 60% area, because the price would be even higher.

guys i just bought this new keyboard, but wired. I just wanted to know something about the illumination. Since you can’t change color from the keyboard and you have to use the steelseries software, once you created some configurations of illumination, how do you switch them from the keyboard? Because switching configuration from the keyboard doesn’t change color configuration, it’s always the same color…

i dont understand why you even want omnipoint switches on the rest of your keyboard. I think the reason why we dont get them on funktion keys and arrow keys are that we dont really use them. I dont use them, its just an excuse to hate on the brand and the products they release. And its not only the omnipoints or the branding that makes this keyboard expensive, its also the build quality. The rubust feeling of the keyboard is very nice and if you got it you know that it aint gonna break, and the nice features that come with the keyboard is also a reason why the price is so high. Dont hate on products you cant afford.

  • @mazinceo

yes but how the fuck do you get the wooting? its limited, not international, a long process. while the new apex pro's got way better switches to the touch, but yes they are a 0.1mm longer actuation point. the wootings' switches are super weird and are a higher actuation force which makes it basically harder to press. also many people in the gaming community do not accept 60% boards, and prefer tkl over them. i dunno man, i own all 3 of these boards (apex pro, apex pro 2023, wooting 60he) and still dont know which one i would prefer over the other...
