It also involves saying, "No." Something I think we as parents can swing the pendulum too far in one direction. Plus is the parent didn't even know their kid was hanging out with so and so... that's a red flag right there. Being involved. Know what your kids are doing. Don't let someone else raise your kids.

Some people, juveniles, adults, elderly, whomever, do not have the ability to feel empathy or sympathy, to consider the full consequences of their actions. If they were stupid and wound up with their hands in a terrible situation, then let them face the consequences, and show, through their actions, the desire to make amends.

Yes, it is a great place to live! I've lived SW Florida for 30 years. Most of the county sheriffs in Florida are much like Bill Woods. They want to hold people, individuals, accountable for their own actions no matter who they are or what they've done. Our state has its lowest crime rate in 50 years and more than a third of those eligible have obtained a carry permit. As of July 1st, this year, ALL eligible persons can carry a concealed weapon. More firearms in the hands of law abiding, thoughtful, responsible citizens equate to LESS crime. Most of our schools now have at least one resource officers on sight. We learned from what happened at Stoneman-Douglas high school in Ft. Lauderdale five years ago. We hope it can never happen again, but the most effective way to prevent it is to have someone on sight to stop it! 'Common Sense Gun Reform' means MORE weapons in the hands of good people.

We can't force the recording of private sales or ask them to check someone's back ground! We can't let the gubberment require training and check for mental illness and when we do let's make it difficult! We can't hold hold people responsible for buying firearms and then reselling them in mexico! The right "there's just nothing we can do, here have a gun sir and mam!"

The problem isn't firearms, or their lack, but the very nature of people that will FIGHT in a supermarket over toilet paper !!! Perhaps it's for the best most don't have access to guns. On the other hand, if we were ALL armed, perhaps their would have been no fight at all - but rather a polite "ma'am, would you mind if I share that with you at the checkout?".
