I bumped into Tommy Hearns twice in the same night, in the U.K. about 10 years ago now. It was for a meet and greet event, before the event started, I was there before everybody had arrived, I went to the toilet in this small-like union club and as I was leaving and coming out the door, there stood Tommy The Hitman Hearns going in at the same time, I held the door open for him and then realized who it was. I could not believe it, there was nobody else with him, no security, no family, friends or even guests (fans) around, just me and him. He was a colossal of a man, he was a really down to Earth, humble and genuine guy, no different to meeting any other kind hearted person.
When I seen him, I got flashbacks of all his hey-day fights and that terrifying KO of prime Roberto Duran.
I never knew at the time, but he really was so kind hearted; so kind hearted that he actually helped a lot of people financially by donating money to a lot of his extended family to help everybody out, without any financial advisor, he ended up having to pay the IRS $250,000 and due to this, he had to auction off most of his assets. People do not realize, but when they get a lot of money, it makes life very difficult, close family and extended family (you often never even knew existed) come out of the wood work acting like you owe them something - and you are put in a difficult situation, because you don't want to lose your own family over some money. Very sad to see an all-time great like Tommy end up in such a position like this financially, but we can not take anything with us anyways and he looked well, witty, humorus, looked happy and has had one thrill of a life.

Tommy Hearns took part in probably the greatest 1st round in boxing history with Marvin Hagler, both warriors went toe to toe trading bombs. Sadly I think Tommy fought on way too long and suffers obvious effects on his speech etc, great guy and very sharp in his younger days. Good to see him supporting President Trump.
