    clearly you have a vast level of knowledge and skill... however for a noob like me it is useless if you don't cover how to even get freestyle applied to your render in the first place... every tutorial I try to find just assumes you know how to set up a 'render node' or something and I am lost...

    • @PCaggegi
      @PCaggegi  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hey there, Anti-Trekker! From about 10:37 it shows a pretty good run down of how to set up render nodes, and yes - what is missing is the shortcut to add a node - Shift-A - which will bring up a menu of nodes you can add. I'll try to be clearer in future content for beginners. Blender is set up with a basic input and output for rendering by default. In the compositing window, you generally have to tick "use nodes" to see it. Hope this helps!

    Hi Paul, I have done everything you did in the tutorial but for some reason, no lines no objects no shades are showing up in render preview or on rendered image and I have no idea why...Only thing I see is that something is blocking out the viewport grid but its invisible

      Without seeing your file I can't really know what's going on, dude. Are you in Cycles? Have you enabled transparency in your Film settings? Have you ticked Freestyle in your View Layer filters so you can render Freestyle - as shown at 4:30? If all else fails, download the demo file and check it against your own settings.

    I'm currently working on a personal short animation project in Blender Cycles (2.79b) with freestyle.

      Make sure to check if it's saving the cache to disk in your roaming data hidden files. Regular render caches can be saved to disk, but they eat a lot of space. (It's a checkbox in the performance settings, I used it for a while and found dozens of GB of data in my hidden roaming data folder. I'm talking about Windows.) Hi Paul,
    your tutorial is really great, so I was trying to replicate your freestyle rendering but I got stuck. After I've been frustrated over my own scene I tried to build upon your 1902_FreestyleTutorial.blend file. And first it looked good I was able to see the outlines of my mesh through your camera in the render. But when I've imported my camera, it's a matchmove camera, it stoped working (means, no outlines in the render. the freestyle pass stopped working). Would be awesome when you have any hints for me. I've been trying around now for several hours but no solution in sight, yet. In case you can find some time to take a look here's the file: drive.google.com/open?id=1by1BtFCDjFaOnON7JFk6LBD7Na9eE2Iu
    ps: The original mesh in my scene is a big architecture mesh, that's why I've replaced it with a cube.
    ps2: My scene size seems to be off compared to the size of your environment (sci-fi corridor). So that could be a proble, too, right!? I don't know how to resize a complete scene with matchmove camera in Blender. I don't want to break the matchmove. I think it's obvious, I'm a total beginner here in Blender! ;)

      @@silentfilmss correct. Freestyle is a post effect. It's applied at render time.

      Yup. Freestyle can take some time. Depends on lots of stuff: computer specs, how many edges it has to calculate, etc

    Has the LANPR real-time engine project for Blender stopped / ended?

    • @PCaggegi
      @PCaggegi  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Honestly I have no idea. LANPR is a separate branch. I create tutorials and assets for Blender Vanilla so that anyone can use it. Those who are more savvy to download, compile and use the experimental branches are always wel one to do so. I assume they'd know their way around enough to figure it out.

    • @PCaggegi
      @PCaggegi  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      I wouldn't really know. I try to keep my tutorials about the Vanilla version of Blender, as I don't want to add another layer of complexity for beginners.

      Boy had to dig for that one. A promo 4 years old, for a 124 minutes paid course, on a channel that's barely been updated or shared. You really should refresh every now and then. Be a bit more approachable. Not just sit back and feel like you're the last word on everything, and that people will just find you.

    Excellent tutorial! I'm wondering if you could help me with something. My edges look like they need anti aliasing because they're very sharp. How could I fix this thing? Thank you!

    • @PCaggegi
      @PCaggegi  5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      You might try increasing the resolution of your render? Don't forget to also increase the thickness of your lines as well when you do.

      @@PCaggegi yeah I tried both, but I was rendering at 4k already and they looked like shit

    • @PCaggegi
      @PCaggegi  5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Freestyle lines are supposed to be pretty crisp, I think. I'll see if there's a setting to help with the aliasing. Without seeing any pictures there might be other render settings you might be overlooking. How do edges on any other passes appear?

    • @Zkay360
      @Zkay360 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@PCaggegi What do you mean by "any other passes"? I tried almost every single setting on the freestyle menus but no luck, I had to render it and then apply a gaussian blur in photoshop to make it look "acceptable". Update me if you find something!

    • @PCaggegi
      @PCaggegi  5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      That's awesome you found a solution. All you've told me is that "it looks shit" and not offered any specifics. I am not the guy who wrote Freestyle, and there is a wealth of information out there which I try to simplify. Other passes means exactly that: any other render passes which you extract from a render: do they look too crisp? Do they look as though they need anti-aliasing, or is it only the freestyle pass? By eliminating other problems, you get closer to finding a solution. What are your file output settings like for example?

    I trying to open blender files for the reference on my projects and crashes everytime. On my case, open the blender program and close immediately. In the meantime: you can append anything from the 2.80 file into 2.79b. I would suggest appending the Freestyle lineset to use on your own scenes. I'll try to get the 2.79 file out tomorrow. Thanks for your patience!
