    As a 12 year Blender user I can truly empathize with the struggle it was to learn the program. The good and bad thing is that there is a ton of information/videos/tutorials and anything you might want to do with the program. Keep practicing and trying to recreate everyday objects inside of Blender, it's the best way to get better at it!!

    Thanks for including one of my illustrations at the beginning (the Severance one)!
    I loved the video, impressed with your persistence. At first I thought you meant one elapsed day, since that's what I took "24 hours" to mean. But now I see you mean 24 nonconsecutive hours of actual tutorial time. Regardless, it was fun to see that you got through it!
    For folks reading this, if you want to learn Blender, I would gently recommend not doing it this way. Sara showed a ton of resilience, but most people would probably burn out. Blender can be fussy and the emphasis on shortcuts can be intimidating and frustrating. Having gone through a long learning process myself, my advice is to try following more basic tutorials with fundamental shapes and scenes. You'll build confidence and not put yourself in a position where you have to absorb new concept after new concept in a short period of time.

    For someone who has been doing 3D modeling since 2004, you don't give yourself enough credit. Jumping to new software is always a pain - figuring out where everything is, having a goal that is more massive than you originally thought. I've been in that exact situation. Keep it up, really great job.

    I am impressed you even got this far. 3D skills take a long time to learn and years (or even decades) to master. There are so many different individual skillsets required to make a final image that most professionals only ever focus on one specific area of 3D work. Modeling, texturing, animation/rigging, rendering are all different skillsets that you need to make a final image.

  • @mikejamesporter
    @mikejamesporter 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    That looks incredible for a first project. Well done!
    One of the biggest things I struggled with was the sheer number of things the program can do and (prior to the 2.8 refresh) the endless amount of buttons and menus you can get lost in. If I took anything away from doing tutorials, was to have a specific goal and focus on using those specific tools and commands first rather than trying to figure out what everything in a workspace did in one go. Once you get comfortable with how those few tools work for your project, move onto the next. When you know enough to realize what will work together, you can then go off on your own and let the creativity guide you.
    Have fun in your future projects with it!

    11:09 , you can make those lines permanent by making another loop cut as close as you can get it to the previous one, press g twice and moving that towards the line you want to "inset" then press 3 on keyboard to go to face select, press e and push as back as far as you want it to be ( if you go into edge select and click on the edge you can bevel slightly as well ). hope that was helpful or even what you wanted! also great video, love when people try out such amazing programs like Blender!!!

    The pandemic gave me an excuse to finally learn Blender/3D - definitely remember taking hours to finish a 20 minute tutorial.
    Love how it works the brain - challenging but so rewarding when you finally get to render it out.
    Great video 💗

    Sara: Actually it’s gonna be super easy, barely an inconvenience.

      Nothing's an inconvenience if you're passionate about learning and genuinely enjoy it. Blender is very hard to master, but worth every bit of the pain and frustration because it gives you so much creative freedom once you really unlock its potential.

    You chose literally the most difficult way possible to learn blender. You started off with a complex model as your first thing ever and then went step by step learning from there how to use the program when you could’ve just started by searching up videos about the basics of blender and made this a lot easier

  • @BrianRodgersJr

    Wow, your'e scene turned out great, especially for just getting into Blender! I too am a big fan of that retro arcade style of 3D art. As a commercial photographer specializing in product photography, I started to get into 3D/CGI sometime back in 2020. I started with Blender and made some decent progress. Through that experience, I quickly learned that not only were there a crazy amount of new terminology and skills to learn, but I also found out that the computer hardware that you're running becomes a much bigger deal than editing photos and videos, particularly as it relates to rendering.
    Blender has really come a long way in just the past couple of years! I had contemplated switching from a Mac to a custom PC for at least a good year and a half, just so I could start to get more into CGI. I just couldn't do it! LOL. Long story short, ended up buying an M1 Ultra Mac studio this year and it runs Blender really well (thanks to Blender's native Apple Silicon/Metal support). Although I think Blender is awesome, I ended up gravitating more toward Cinema 4D/Redshift. But I always find myself looking at all the new features that Blender has to offer and dabble with it a bit.
    Cheers for sticking with it, creating something from nothing and completing a final rendered scene! 🍻

      Why did you choose cinema 4D/redshift over blender. Just curious. Hv u used autodesk maya too?

    • @BrianRodgersJr
      @BrianRodgersJr 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@shakti.rathore My main reason for using C4D/Redshift is because it feels very similar to Photoshop. And I use Photoshop nearly every day. Additionally, it integrates well with Adobe applications like Photoshop, After Effects & Illustrator.
      That being said however, that's not to say anything bad about Blender. Because Blender is awesome. I find myself constantly rethinking what software I want to spend my time learning. The struggle is real sometimes. So although I've kind of decided that C4D/Redshift is my first choice for now, that could very well change to Blender in the future. Both are great applications.
      I've never used any Autodesk products. Being that I'm using Apple hardware, particular Apple Silicon, I want to work with software that runs native Apple Silicon code and is optimized for the hardware that I'm using. C4D/Redshift as well as Blender are optimized for Apple Silicon and support Apple's Metal API which is super helpful when render using the GPU. To my knowledge, Autodesk is still not optimized.
      At the end of the day though, I just want to make amazing commercial artwork for my clients and for myself. Whatever software will allow me to do that most efficiently is what I'll choose to use. Cheers 🍻

      I saw some videos on Robert Rioux’s channel (“Blender Bob”). He says professional VFX shops don’t use GPU rendering, since GPUs never have enough RAM.

    • @BrianRodgersJr
      @BrianRodgersJr 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@lawrencedoliveiro9104 I don't work in a VFX shop so I can't speak to that... but that doesn't sound right to me. It seems that GPUs are all the rage when it comes to rendering. On the PC side of things, the RTX 3090TI is king (as of now). And most people who are doing serious rendering seem to be using tools like Nvidia NVLink to combine GPUs for even more power and faster rendering. So I'm not sure why anyone would use CPU rendering when GPU rendering is much much faster. Unless the rendering engine being used is CPU only, in which case that's your only option.

I managed to finish his 8hr tutorial in roughly 14 hrs lol. 😂

    Congratulations and you can be very Proud of yourself for giving it a go, producing your first 3D render, it's not as bad as you think for a first attempt and it's not easy especially with a job or without having to work, But Blender is so much fun when you get over the hurdles of new software, welcome to the Blender community, keep at it, it can help you with your spacial awareness and breaking down reality into manageable pieces for 3D, even if you don't intend to do other things in 3D in other ways, enjoy the experience and the learning and whatever you actually create with Blender, as a visual artist i make art with Blender, sometimes i do visually representational 3D for an exercise, but my main goal is fine art with Blender. Yeah just have fun :)
