  • Habits in young children are formed by the parental responses they receive to their behavior. How and why does this happen and what can parents do to help their children form good behavioral habits and avoid bad ones? (Especially the difficult habit of tantrums that young children can have!)
The Mommy Answer Lady gives a clear picture of how habits are formed (including tantrum habits!) and the general response categories that create the expectations that form them. Once you understand these concepts, it is easier to be a more effective parent and help bring about good habits in your child!

Well…not me. I didn’t go out today. But you might have seen my car. My son drives it sometimes. And my husband has a truck with Mommy Answer Lady on it too.
Or was it someone who looked like me?
      What did you see exactly?

Hello , I‘ve been doing the CTM method for about two to three weeks. How long does it take to stick ? My two year old son behaves 90% better at home and about 70% better in public since doing CTM . At home, he pouts . When he pouts I say that’s not acceptable , he seems to get that I mean business and It doesn’t escalate to a tantrum . Should I do CTM with the pouts or only tantrums ? . In public, he has a difficult time leaving parks , has tantrums and doesn’t seem to care about me telling him it’s not acceptable . Overall , my son is so much better and I am a true believer of your methods . For the first time since he was born , I actually enjoyed dinner with him at a restaurant and several people complimented his behavior . My anxiety has decreased tremendously. Just wondering if the tantrums at the park should be expected since I haven’t used CTM long or if perhaps I’m doing something wrong . I am not letting go until the tantrums are completely gone . I follow up with saying it’s not acceptable . I’m doing the eye contact several times a day . My son and I have really bonded since the eye contact exercises . Thanks a million ! ❤

I'm so glad to know you have had some success with CTM. It is rewarding to see your training paying off, isn't it? You should be able to go to stores and restaurant, and church... no problem!
What you have described in your question though tells me that you probably have missed something. It should not take weeks at all. Not even one whole week! It should only take a few sessions and that's it. SO, that means there is something missing in the application.
I can't know what it is -- so I suggest you first go through the entire CTM video in detail again. Also, there is a download on my website with all the instructinon written out for you. This may help too.
Regarding a tantrum when leaving the park? No. That should not be expected, should not be happening, and should not be tolerated. I have a video about that specific thing happening to me with a child I was caring for. I'll put a link here so you can watch that one.

If you figure out what part of the instructions you are missing, you will probably be able to solve the problem very quickly. Common mistakes are stopping Ctm before the child gives up completely or starting it after the child has already been whining or behaving badly for a while. Also, allowing it sometimes and not others. I hope this helps. Keep me updated!
