  • He gets pretty fired up in this one, it is relatively early in his speaking "career" so it is a bit "rough around the edges." This was taped in 1999. Extremely good and beneficial overall message though, and I can't really find anywhere where I disagree with anything he says. I LOVE Chris, but am really glad he has kinda mellowed over the years! :)
However, if you are looking to get inspired and fired up, this is YOUR tape!
Addiction treatment WORKS! The Twelve Step Model has been utilized as a treatment for alcohol abuse and alcoholism since 1935. It is extremely important to know that help IS out there and addiction recovery is possible. If you are battling alcoholism, drug addiction, addiction or any other form of addictive behavior, there are people who know EXACTLY what it is like!
You can find out more at: www.aa.org - Alcoholics Anonymous Official Site - As should be blatantly obvious, we are in no way affiliated with them or any other Twelve Step Program. We are just looking to provide hope to those suffering from alcoholism or addiction.
It is important to note there are several ways for one to address his or her alcohol abuse treatment. Substance abuse is a very serious condition and has become an epidemic in today's world. Many people suffering with substance abuse need treatment, such as inpatient stays, rehab, or counseling. The importance and purpose of this video, and all our other videos, is to show that recovery IS possible and to give hope to those who are struggling with alcohol and drug addiction issues. Help IS out there!
From the book Alcoholics Anonymous: "In spite of the great increase in the size and span of this Fellowship, at its core it remains simple and personal. Each day, somewhere in the world, recovery begins when one alcoholic talks with another alcoholic, sharing experience, strength, and hope."

I have 30 yrs. recovery because the program promised if I did the steps, as outlined in our BB, I would become and remain a recovered alcoholic. So far awesome!! I love our program and am so grateful to all those who showed me how good life can be and helped me work through my steps so I can live that good life too. ❤

Let me just say it was Chris and his passion that saved my life. I spent many days sitting in a chair listening to Chris when I was in rehab at Origins, had my 60th birthday a week after I arrived. I went from a suicidal alcoholic drinking a gallon to gallon and a half of whisky a week to a Recovered alcoholic with no desire to drink. He helped turn my whole world around. It's been a few years since that time in the chair but the passion in his words still reverberate through me in my help with others. Thank you Chris Raymer.

After more than a decade of bemoaning being in recovery I submitted to what Chris was suggested, which came straight out of the basic text, and did the work to take all the steps, have a spiritual experience become Recovered from the obsession to drink. So I got a sponsor, I did the work. Today I'm a week shy of a year sober, and I am recovered. Still in recovery!! But actually recovered as a result of having a spiritual experience from doing the 12 steps. I love Chris R.

I came in the program in March of 99' after a number of relapses and almost died 3 times.
I met my sponsor who I took my 3rd step with and he lead me through the steps in the book and it took away the obsession of alcohol and drugs.
Still kneel and do my 3rd step every morning and live by spiritual principles to the best of my ability and go to meetings on a regular basis.
Thank God for a sponsor who knew what he was talking about.

Chris and Myers’ clear cut shares FROM THE BIG BOOK saved me from suicide. I had the fluff from other sponsors who were afraid of being offensive - the softer easier way almost killed me. The inner condition and untreated alcoholism Chris speaks of is true! I found a word for the spiritual malady that was more lethal than just putting the plug in the jug and Chris makes no bones about spiritual experience being the key to getting recovered. I thrive on his directness and honesty . The more he spits with passion the clearer and closer he sticks to what I believe Bill and Bob would have said now if they were alive! Thank you Chris!!!!

I had 18 months then relapsed. I had 38 days until saturday when doing a few bumps of cocaine sounded like a GREAT idea! Only my 2 antidepressants and my antipsychotic medication did not think it was a good idea. I went to the ER Saturday night with a severe hypertensive episode (BP was 225/138).
Cocaine wasn't even my cup of tea... I didn't think at all before i did it and that momentary lapse of judgement almost killed me... I needed to hear this today. Day one once again

He was also undergoing belladonna treatment in that detox center, where the hallucinogen belladonna is given every hour, on the hour, for 50 straight hours. This definitely aided in his spiritual experience.

Sorry you feel that way Robert. I just know if your talking about the problem , your not living in the solution. Chris speaks his truth and the facts as he see's AA mtgs missing its meaning. AA is for recovering which leads to Recovered as the BB says. Mtgs are where you speak the message , not your mess. Listen to Mark Houston and Joe Huffs 11 hour workshop and they day the same thing , just not with Chris's passion and excitement. By the way , Mark is or was his sponsor. Peace

Chris Rayner I was in rehab nearly 4 years ago detoxing and taking the steps.. I had a spiritual experience for sure, first time I heard this around the same time I was blown away... I suddenly realized what my life was to be... Helping other drugs addicts and alcoholics.... I had purpose for once in my life. Stay in the Big Book man, and go help another man get through the steps. God bless

james richardson Thanks man, I will, and felt much the same sense of purpose as you did, or at least my own version of it. Once in an AA meeting something else was happening, everyone's words resonated with me so so strongly, and each sentence was perfectly poignant and powerful, and now I try to bring that same energy with me everywhere I go, that helpful, powerful, uplifting energy. That's my mission, my purpose. I love AA and everyone who has the courage to try and change.

    • @marklandis5794

crackerjackkiller To the contrary, this is exactly the Chris Raymer I know. Telling the truth, unafraid to allow people to disagree, and fearless in his sobriety enough to challenge the very things that are destroying AA from the inside. His message is ultimately one of great hope by returning AA to its roots and effectiveness prior to the advent of the “for profit” treatment center mentality that had nearly destroyed the bright light of hope that AA once was, and simply must return to once again IF it hopes to survive.

Chris R shares what it says in the aa book only !!!! And his experience of it. He isn't fearful like you say but the opposite... He is recovered and not powerless...!!!! Just for today. Obviously you're not a real alcoholic or addict. Being in jail, homeless, broke etc... Doesn't make you an alcoholic. Having less power than alcohol does.

  • @Jerid58

This is the 2nd talk of his I’ve listened to. I gotta say that sharing sometimes does turn into a therapy session. After listening to Chris I have tried really hard NOT to do that. I’ve tried to stick to the daily reading or the running topic. Some people mainly elders (all the respect) will start out something like this…..”I had a pretty good day today, my garage was really dirty so I cleaned it bla blah bla” and tie it up with “I never coulda did that drunk”. Had a guy sit right next to me probably 43 at a book study a while back say “Appreciate everyone being here, I’ve had a really rough week……that’s all I have…..I pass.” I give everyone the benefit of the doubt so I thought maybe he didn’t want to break down…..no he just wanted to finish his donut. I was like HOW did that help anyone in here you included????
6 months sober today and I’m thankful the hand of AA was there to save my life.

Chris, please come to our roundup this year. We need you. Canadians are dying especially in British Columbia, North Vancouver fellowship message. We need you. You saving my life. Only one big book with Tony Keystone is the best. It's saving lives and he talks like you. But we need your passion and a little better like you know how you talk. Please come please. Please save lives here. They need to hear you. I'm 18 years over. I was exactly like you 12 years dry drunk until I get the course of action the steps and I had this spiritual experience from the early. Even a stage of the book issues. Everything you saying I went through and I know it's true. Please you're not angry man, your passion and I'm like this too and how many times they try to shut me down because I can feel that clean cloud. I can feel the spiritual awakening and it's exciting of the new way of life. All the steps are giving me the access to the higher power God and what we do here. We talk about b******* as you said. God bless you man. We need you here in British Columbia. Please come.

Alcoholics are finding it harder and harder to identify in Alcoholics Anonymous. What Bill W referred to as the first link in the chain is broken in many meetings. In our town we took the suggestion in A Vision For You and took our books and created the fellowship we craved. We started a new meeting and people started getting well by the dozen. We're now many and have had recovered members start meetings on other nights of the week - Thus we grow.

I look at the word "recovered" in the context of having the flu.
As an example, in January, for a wekk or so, my wife was fighting the flu. Everyday she woke up her main thought was "oh shit i have to deal with this sickness all day." Then, she recovered from the flu. She still is susceptible to getting the flu. Chances are she will. She doesnt drink enough water and she doesnt sleep well.
I loon at my alcoholism thri this lens. If i am waking up every single day with the feeling of having to fight temptations of drinking and taking pills, then i have not recovered.
I like waking up and bot thinking about that. However, i still sometimes remind myself i can still end up in that bad place. I just have to make sure i help others, and ask for help. (Drink water and sleep well.)
