  • Chris R. one of the best AA speakers, gives a wonderful talk in 2011, sharing about a variety of topics.
Addiction treatment WORKS! The Twelve Step Model has been utilized as a treatment for alcohol abuse and alcoholism since 1935. It is extremely important to know that help IS out there and addiction recovery is possible. If you are battling alcoholism, drug addiction, addiction or any other form of addictive behavior, there are people who know EXACTLY what it is like!
You can find out more at: www.aa.org - Alcoholics Anonymous Official Site - As should be blatantly obvious, we are in no way affiliated with them or any other Twelve Step Program. We are just looking to provide hope to those suffering from alcoholism or addiction.
It is important to note there are several ways for one to address his or her alcohol abuse treatment. Substance abuse is a very serious condition and has become an epidemic in today's world. Many people suffering with substance abuse need treatment, such as inpatient stays, rehab, or counseling. The importance and purpose of this video, and all our other videos, is to show that recovery IS possible and to give hope to those who are struggling with alcohol and drug addiction issues. Help IS out there! :)
From the book Alcoholics Anonymous: "In spite of the great increase in the size and span of this Fellowship, at its core it remains simple and personal. Each day, somewhere in the world, recovery begins when one alcoholic talks with another alcoholic, sharing experience, strength, and hope."

Chris and his sponsees do it right. As a 22 year AA retread I wish I would have known Chris's "Fundamentalist" approach when I first came in. I freaked out when Brian B. and Chris B. et al (who were sponsored by Chris R.) first hit me with their "rapid" approach to doing the steps. Now the only way I can repay is through some serious unreserved 12th step work.
You WILL have an authentic spiritual experience that will keep you away from alcohol and the associated beyond shitty life associated with it if you work the steps as soon as you quit shaking enough to be able to write.

He is the first AA speaker I heard. My buddy bought me a Big Book. Opened it to the first page and told me this is what you know about AA and alcoholism, NOTHING. Then he told me listen to this guy(Chris Raymer). Two days later I'm at my first meeting. Raymer was my first sponsor(in absentia). Then I got a real sponsor, Greg. A few days later, on Easter Sunday I took my 5th,6th,7th,8th and 9th steps. And I was freed of the bondage of my past. I had already been working my 10th, 11th and 12th steps. So I am lucky to have done it the way the first AA's did it and through the Grace of our Creator, the three legacy's and walking the walk, I have recovered from a seemingly hopeless state of mind and body. I am no longer powerless. I am no longer hopeless. Today I love myself and others. I now have real power and real hope. For me, for you. And for all who would walk this path, this Red Road!!! I am now working on emotional sobriety. And it's a tough nut to Crack, but well worth it. I'm worth it. You are worth it, and we are all worth it. All who would walk this Road... Godspeed

Might we all take a moment to remember many people, including myself, come to recovery thinking agnostically and eventually evolve into a belief of a higher power through AA and other 12-step programs. Personally, I appreciate this person's comment and the fact that he is listening in the first place. I don't believe these forums are a place for debate, but rather a place to give and receive recovery. Shouldn't we be respectful of others stages of recovery, as certainly we needed someone to be of ours at some point or another? I also believe it is often a progression and building of one's knowledge base and experience (good and bad) that leads to recovery and sanity! Just as the progression of the disease made us what we are....exceptional people who hold a greater understanding of humanity than many can conclude. I consider myself immensely fortunate to know the things about the human spirit I have learned because of my alcoholism, and I sometimes feel sorry for "normies" who don't know what I know (especially those arrogant judgmental bastard types). Think about it, some people will die miserable (alcoholic or not) and never have the chance to live as joyously and gratefully as the recovering alcoholic or drug addict does. I am now a psychology major studying addiction and I encourage others too investigate the theory of "self-actualization". I found the concept especially helpful in escaping the debilitating idea I held about myself that I could never be considered a worthy human being after some of the things I did while a practicing alcoholic. Peace be with you all and best wishes for the glorious life that awaits you should you remain in recovery!! And please, please, please consider helping another who still suffers.

Only differences I experienced from this speaker is I did the 6th and 7th step alone. My sponsor wasn't with me.
    2) I waited a little longer less than a week to get my instructions for the 9th step.
The process took away the obsession for alcohol and drugs.
I am eternally grateful for a sponsor who knew what he was talking about.

Nowhere in the big book does it talk about getting a sponsor , it talks about getting a closed-mouth friend to do a fifth step. I also am a step technician believing that steps are open and roomy. I also believe that the steps should not take more than 30 days. I agree that 90 & 90 and calling a sponsor every day is BS. I pray all throughout the day, reading Daily Reflections & 24 hours a Day, reading the first 103 pages,To Wives, the family afterwards, and To Employers are not instructions for my recovery, of the BB is paramount to my recovery. In my homegroup, if we see a newcomer cracking on a female we confront he/she as soon as possible. We suggest dressing appropriately is conducive to getting better as well. Thanks again Chris for another great talk.

FEAR is our greatest handicap early on in the rooms of AA. And these selfishly motivated “sponsors” are well aware of it. They know newcomers won’t question their ego driven directions. So they adopt newcomers and try to run their lives with opinions.
The Big Book is clear! We are to offer the newcomer this kit of Spiritual tools; if they’re interested in utilizing them. If they want to recover, and are willing to go to any lengths.
    I Love you all 🙏

Makes you realise how enlightened the big book is. I guess AA culture has drifted from the book at various times/places. Getting back to the big book is the idea, although i justifying self righteous anger?! The grouch and the brainstorm are poison for alcoholics. Things like this make me go back and actually read the darn big book for what it actually suggests. Shouting rants aren't advised. Mind you, I listen to Chris a lot - does cut through some chaff.

I vehemently disagree with a lot of stuff this guy says, but I do appreciate his back to basics approach. I think a lot of people need more help than he seems to be willing to give them, which is fine. There's a wrench for every nut in AA and there are certainly people who I can't help who this guy probably could. Interesting to listen to someone who is diametrically opposed to a lot of my experiences in sobriety, nonetheless. I guess I just had a different process introduced to me. Something that sticks out to me is that this guy probably hates the 12 and 12... I've never understood people like that. But whatever. Good talk.

That is not what he is saying, or at least I haven't heard that. Do you have a direct quote you are referring to? To my knowledge, no one wants to kick anyone out of AA... But anyways, A Higher Power of your own understanding doesn't have to be God. A great example of that is my tape of Jim B. "The Original Agnostic" one of the original members of AA.
