In this video we take a look at Fly mode on the FS-i6s radio. This is a great little radio and this feature is a boon for multicopter pilots that want more than three flight modes on the radio.

thanks. this is helping. I have it set per your video -- about ppm, and serial. and ibus settings.... I can control 1-4, but no option and isnt' recognizing any switches, so cant set failsafe, Arm/disarm, etc.. also, in cleanflight it just rolls to the left. slowly... anyway, confused as you can see.. Flysky, Fs86s. THX.

See our Taranis video for the values you need to set. Figure out the 6 values you need for an APM mode and then setup each of the 6 modes to put out one of those PWM values. Best of luck!
Hello I have an S500 quadcoper I built from from a kit Im so confused on several
things. I have the apm2.8 controller and
I have the FS-i6s transmitter.
1.
I want to setup the throttle failsafe and im
using the apm planner from mission planner. Some guys set all these different values
on different channels, some guys lower the throttle trim all the way in
failsafe on the transmitter while in failsafe on mission planner and then recalibrate
the radio. I have 5 servo wires for each channel on the receiver going to the 5
channels on the receiver and those wires going to the input on the apm.

I noticed this transmitter does not have trim adjustment
for the sticks like most radios. I see in the radio menu there is a (trim) option
, so what if you’re flyng and the
quadcopter keeps banking left what do you do? . I have calibrated and
configured everything except failsafe. The copter wont arm when I try to setup
failsafe but when don’t set up failsafe in my radio and apm planner the copter
arms properly.

See the videos in our APM series where we cover the radio setup and tips. We also have a video on fixing quadcopter drift that explains a few things too. Bottom line is that once the APM is calibrated well and the channel values all settle to 1500 at mid stick (use the sub-trim menu on the radio to setup) then it shouldn't drift. Best of luck!
Hi, I need some clarification, for the Fly Mode setting, the number that’s next to the Mode 1, Mode 2, etc., which by default is 1500; is that just for display purposes? For example, just like you can rename the Fly Mode 1 to Angle, Fly Mode 2 named Horizon and Fly mode 3 named Rate (or whatever you want), to have a readout on the OSD? The numeric value I put there, where its 1000 for Angle, 1500 for Horizon and 2000 for Rate mode, that’s not going to affect Betaflight/cleanflight settings recorded to the flight controller, correct? It’s just a readout?
That is the PWM value sent on the channel that fly mode is controlling. You then setup the software on the flight controller to use the same values to select the modes you want.. Best of luck!
OK, so it's no just a readout on the display to show. The only thing I was looking for was to have the transmitter give a visual readout of what Flight mode I was on... But apparently that's not the case otherwise Fly Mode. Thanks for responding to my question!

Great videos as always! The Turnigy TGY-i6S has "telemetry capability" is it possible to set up with cleanflight and a SP pro F3? ( yes this is a video request =) )

ok. I thought 1 purpose sensors was the old school way, and getting all sensor values from the flight controller was the new, just like the OSD gets its data. but that kind of telemetry might be called something else.
Hi! What is the problem with the spring throttle? Can I use this radio with whoops without making any hardware modification?
I'm sure you can in some way but I just un-spring the throttle..

Hi im using the apm 2.8 and setup the fly mode, but when i set it sup in mission planer it ditn allow me to change the mode cause im using the chanel 5 for fly mode
Set the mode channel to CH8 for plane and CH5 for copter. You can also change the channel used for modes in Mission Planner too.. See the wiki for more details (FLTMODE_CH). Happy flying!
Painless360 i have the flysky fsi6s how can i able the 6 flight modes in the mission planner?

There is an instant trim function but there are better radios for fixed wing....
I set my A switch to do the timer when I switch it down. I also want to use it as safety for my plane so i don't accidently switch on the motor. When I flip the switch, the motors will be able to spin and the timer will start. Now, What I tried to do is, make a flight mode and after that I wanted to change the throttle curve to 0. when it is in "safe" mode. and normal curve when it is in "flight mode". You have any idea to do this? Because I didn"t see how to change the throttle curve in the different modes.
Oh, and what are those values for?
Or is it best to just do this with Mission planner software?

Hello I have the same controller and I'm having trouble getting the JR on/off switch that's plugged into channel 5 or 6 to come on it's dimly lit now I've used the same switches on another reciever and they just plugged into the channels and worked bit lost at what to do any ideas

The lack of trim tabs make that a little tricky. This isn't the radio for those that need things like trims and swash mixing though..
Is it possible to set a voltage alarm on the Flysky FS-I6S with the: Flysky FS-CVT01 voltage module?
I can see the voltage on the transmitter, but I can't see a option to set a alarm at a certain voltage. It should be really handy.
Not sure, we've not got one of those sensors here..
Did you press on the top right corner in the main screen? (not in settings)
zippiz Thanks for helping me! You have to check the box "Ext" behind Rx setup in order to set a alarm voltage of the measured voltage from the sensor.

I am trying to use the FS-i6s for the first time and I always go to the painless360 videos before I do anything, My apm quadcopter recognises stick movements and no matter what I do it will not recognise any switch movements in MP, what am I doing wrong? where do I start to find the problem? I am using the FS-IA6B Module on the quadcopter
I'd start with the basics and forget flight mode just assign a switch to CH5 on the radio. Follow along with the APM setup series and hopefully you'll get it working.. Make sure it's bound to the receiver and happy (see the radio video in the 'Quadcopter Building for Beginners: Series 1) for how to do that. Best of luck!
whats strange is that it recognises the sticks, so I know it is bound

I just ordered this from hobbyking but noice after order that ppl asking for a update. Did I order from right place since there is few versions of this transmitter?
At the moment the TGY version doesn't have a firmware update that adds some cool features to the radio. Let's hope they add it soon..
Anyway to put flysky on it? might quickly cancel my order.
Sadly not, the firmware versions are locked to the vendor model.
No, I would go for the original Flysky, but fingers crossed that hobbyking will get the update soon.

Can you have 2 or more modes in the same switch position and on the same auxillary channel? Let's say horizon mode, barometer and air mode all in the same position? Thanks and great video btw :)
You can, you set that up in the Betaflight software screen called 'Modes' you can assign lots of things to the same switch position..

I want to use this transmitter with my xk x380..on stock tx,,,Return to home and auto take off..auto landing all are in channel six...in a button and in two position switch...but i couldn't find out how to do the same in this particular transmitter/receiver
It depends on what the flight controller needs to see. We've not used that exact same model but we have videos and setup series on most of the main flight controllers on the channel, sorry we can't be of more help..
Painless, I have tried to update my FS-i6S from firmware ver 1.10 March 2016. It looks simple enough, but yet my controller does not update. Have you come across this issue? I get the firmware from BG, open the RAR file and run the .exe to get to the point of update. Nothing.....
The only time I've struggled is when I'm trying to flash a radio with the firmware from another vendor. The updates seem to be vendor specific (even through it's the same hardware!) Best of luck!

I have tried 3 different USB cables and I get the same result. My PC see's the controller as a USB HMI device. When I go to the menu and click on "FIRMWARE UPDATE" you know that little noise that Windows makes when you unplug and plug in a USB device? It makes that noise when I click "CONTINUE" after pressing "Update Firmware" Seems like everything is ready to go and nothing. I've tried BG and I get nothing from them either. I really need this update so I can trim out my quad copter.

I went to FLYSKY website and tried their version of the update......and it worked!! Thanks for your help. I assumed what BG had on their site was the most up to date.
have you checked that the values actually work? I did that on my naza setup and ALL the settings in the world would not effect the pwm output of the channel... might have been a bug in the firmware though...
You need to make sure that the channel is setup and that you have different values for each flight mode you are using. You can also simply setup a switch for three flight modes and use the same one to change the flight mode (without changing the PWM values) it display the flight mode on the model.. Hope that makes sense.
it does make sense, and that's how i did it, but the result was 1500ms in all switch positions, even though I did change the value several times...

What mod? If you are refering to the firmware update for Flysky Hobbyking has not yet released (or worse said) anything about that. :(
theres a mod for flysky i6 which gives it 10 channels and a few other features ..i'm not sure if it needs to be ppm signal or ibus to get all the channels though, but i thought in general you could hack any of the rebranded i6's to run the new software... i can't recall if painless does a vid but i'm sure he won't mind me mentioning iforce2d having a video on doing the hack... if you want to do it get back to me and i'll link the ultra cheap ftdi adapter i purchased, like 2 us dollars.
i6s is 10 channel radio from stock.. by updating firmware you get some other improvements

What the best .this or turning your evolution
Both are nice radios and have the same benefits and limitations. The Evolution is smaller and has the LED lights, this is more natural for pilots who like traditional feel..

I am setting up flight modes for APM2.8 in MP. TX is Flysky FS-T6 without any 3 position switch (only 2 position switch). I was able to configure only 4 flight modes with by adjusting MIX options. You may refer to following clip and snapshot for my settings. As per ardupilot wiki, all 6 flight modes can only be possible via combination of 3+2 position switch. We don't have that radio so tricky to answer with certainty but unless you can find someone in the forums who has figured it out then I'd suspect the answer is no. Both of those radios would work but most new pilots are going for something like the FS-i6s for multirotors or a Taranis.. Best of luck!
