Great tip. Finally something low cost. It’s sad how expensive models and supplies have gotten. How are young people to get into this hobby without their parents help.
Research and development isn't cheap. Especially with the extreme costs of regulations. Extreme taxes on companies, they have two choices. Pass it on, or close the doors.
Finally something that doesn’t break the bank! I’ve been away from the hobby for 15 years and have been experiencing sticker shock. My local hobby shop (that is now long gone) sold most new kits for 8 bucks😂
I feel your pain. I remember kits being 3 to 5 bucks. come back and they are 25 to 35. Then paint, brushes, glues, on and on and on. It sure makes you think about the builds you are going to do. I look on line at the instructions of kits I may get just to see if they are ok. Thanks for watching.
@@grandpamarkshobbies The internet is definitely a great resource for researching builds. Do you have any recommendations on airbrushes or compressors?
Honestly I have an airbrush, 3 gallon compressor, and regulator/water separator from Harbor Freight. I made my booth out of a tote and a large bathroom fan and a furnace filter. So I'm the wrong person to ask about that. LOL I've been using them for about five years now. I replaced the airbrush twice.
Great info ... although I admit I rarely remove chrome. I do think chrome parts make models look toyish so I do spray them all with a highly diluted spray of black or dark gray (not so much it's black chrome - just to knock down the shine). While I'm not a science guy... I am fairly certain that chrome reflection down at this scale (1/24) is NOT as bright as literal chrome. Think of the distance you are viewing a 1/24 scale. Anyway, I think this is common .... and now I know how to remove it for other reasons as well... nice vid. I keep learning from Gramps...
I totally agree with you. I always think chrome needs to be toned down a bit because of the whole distance and scale thing. I learned quick making ships that what looks right up close looks very wrong at distance. I always go two shades lighter on most colors when I do my ships. As for removing chrome I remove a lot of chrome. I have no idea why so many parts get chromed that would usually never be chromed. The ones that bug me most are the fan and carbs. I've been around a long time, and have never seen a chromed carb. LOL
It does, but a lot of people were talking about this and Purple Power, so I decided to give one a try. Dollar store is closer than Walmart, so LA Awesome it was. LOL
I like Purple Power. The main reason I use LA is because Wal-Mart is five miles farther away from me than the Dollar Store. LOL That's the only reason.
Thanks for watching, and welcome to the hobby. Sometimes some of the parts that are chromed shouldn't be. Such as the carbs, alternator, intake manifold, and things like that. I just stripped the chrome off the grill of my Duster because it was painted flat aluminum in real life. Also some people strip the chrome off their rims to paint them a different color, or just to re chrome them with a less bright chrome. I hope that helps a bit. Thank you very much. I've always tried to do my kits on the cheap. So whenever I find something that is cheap and works I'm going to get it posted.

Been using this stuff for years and it is cheap. Can't beat it. Have a great week ahead my friend. Terry
For sure. It's as cheap as I am. LOL but I'm sold on it now.

Would love to see a video on a diy / budget set up!
I'll make that happen. Give me a few days and I'll get it posted.
Great test this is another product I can use. I use purple power for stripping paint. Have a great week 👊👊👍
Thanks for watching. If Walmart was closer than the Dollar store this would have been a Purple Power video instead. LOL
Works pretty good. Ive used brake fluid in the past. Thanks for sharing.
I've used brake fluid too. I always seem to make a mess with it. LOL. It's just me though, because it does work great.
I use Totally Awesome in an ultrasonic cleaner for stripping paint and cleaning carburators.
I'll bet it really works great for that. It'll strip fresh model paint in seconds, and dried on hard in a few days.
i use my la awesome in small rubbermaid container the wife had and never used. glass will work too. glad you liked it.
I'm going to have to do that this week on the body of my Chevelle. It orange peeled bad enough that I'm just going to strip it.
The LA Awesome is some good stuff, and it’s cheap. Thanks for sharing.
The cheap part is the best part. LOL.

LUV THIS CLEANER!!!!!!
Me too. I have a mason jar of it right on the desk. It looks like a snow globe. LOL
Nice to know. I've been using Purple Power which on Revell models takes the chrome off in just minutes. The LA Awesome would be quite a bit cheaper.
This is just about 2.50 for a half gallon. The price went up.
Great! Thank you for the tip!
You are very welcome. Thanks for watching.
La awesome works well for most paint this my go. I have done more than body just keeps going.
I think this is going to be my go too also. It sure is strong. I expected to see a little bit of chrome when I went down today, but it was all gone.
Nice review!!!! Thanks for sharing
Thank you, and thanks for watching.
This stuff is amazing. Used it and 12 hours later the chrome was gone!! No scrubbing!!
I keep a medium baby food jar with it on my workbench just for the chrome dips.
@@grandpamarkshobbies I tried the stuff last night on chrome wheels. Woke up today and they were clean!!
I've only had to wait another day once, because the part was flat and laid on the bottom and I had to flip it over. LOL it is great.
I use Purple Power. I get a gallon can for about ten bucks and it works for years.
If Walmart was closer than the dollar store this would have been a different video. LOL
Nice. Regular bleach works too. Thanks.

That removing chrome from the rims as well? Or just from plastic?
Yes. I use it all the time for removing chrome from the rims. It usually does it over night.
@@grandpamarkshobbies thank you 🙏
Uh Ohhhh, can't have leaks.... Hmmmmm, now that was Awesome! 👍🙂
LOL. It leaked in a mater of minutes. At first I thought it was from the lid, but nope. Thanks for watching.
@@grandpamarkshobbies 👍🙂
What is the model chrome made of? Some kind of paint? It can't possibly be real chrome which is metal.
It must be some kind of paint. It sure isn't metal.
purple power available at Wal-Mart will strip paint off plastic models and it has no smell
I like Purple Power. The main reason I use LA is because Wal-Mart is five miles farther away from me than the Dollar Store. LOL That's the only reason.
New at this so bear with me, why would you want to strip the chrome? - R.Ferencik

@@grandpamarkshobbies Thanks, makes perfect sense
put your partsin dawn dish soap and water that rest off that crap off
Yes. I always rinse my parts off until I can't smell anything. I'd hate for the paint to curdle.
I cant remove chrome from a bumper in a shot glass 😂👎👎
It all depends on how big your shot glass is. LOL
@@grandpamarkshobbies send me the link to one that fits a bumper🫨
You build a special little tub that can hold a bumper Einstein! 🥴
cheap house hold bleach does the same.
I've not had as good of luck with bleach as I have with this. Like the 32 I did I don't think bleach would have gotten that old Old paint off.
