Listening to this song really makes me wonder why we have "Christmas songs ". Songs like this are appropriate year round. "no more let sins and sorrows grow, nor thorns infest the ground". This along with "Joy to the world" are such powerful lines. sin and sorrow are not separate concepts but come together. We are sorrowful because we sin and others sins. Because of sin there is death and suffering, but Christ's birth and death is victory over sin and death. We are no longer slaves to sin, and have an ability to fight sin in our own lives, and for our sins we are forgiven so when we do pass we go into a world with no sin or sorrow. While we may sorrow in this world, so much more should be our joy because of Christ.
VERY well said! I feel the same way about the fabulous Easter hymn, "A Hymn of Glory, Let Us Sing." I can't imagine singing "Joy to the World" on an average Sunday (though no Sunday in church is really "average") but after reading your comment, I was like... WHY can't I imagine singing this on any Sunday? It truly is always appropriate and always lovely. Thanks, Dustin.
Watts wrote the lyrics, but Handel is usually credited with composing the music. Also, the subject of Watts' lyrics wasn't the birth of Christ, it was the RETURN of Christ in triumph. Still, a great Christmas carol.
I've never thought of that before, but when you really listen to the lyrics, it makes sense. Little baby Jesus wasn't ruling much yet, was He. The two ends two Advent: preparation for the celebration of Christ's first coming and preparation for His second. Thanks, Hans :)
AAAAAAHHHHH!!SUPERBLY SUNG INDEED!!LISTENING TO CHRISTMAS CAROLS " NOW"GETS ME GOING INTO SONG!!!!AND ITS ONLY 23th OCTOBER 2016!!!WONDER I AM SO EARLY "THINKING"!!!FROM(U.K.).
Thanks for asking for permission. I'm a proponent of "fair use," so go ahead. I would prefer it be in a video that is respectful of religion in general, specifically Christianity, or a video that has nothing to do with religion at all would be fine, too. Just please don't use it in one that makes fun of it. That is all I ask. Enjoy. And Merry Christmas!
Hello from Iran, and thank you for sharing this wonderful song,it really touches my heart,i am trying to memorize it.
I Love Traditional Christmas music, Thank you.
I studied in a Clairist-Franciscan convent school and I still remember I won my first ever prize singing this as a carol :)
