    This is my absolutely favourite Christmas carol. I know that in recent years more traditional songs have been ousted in exchange for more modern songs, but in my opinion some of the more traditional ones are of higher quality and it's a great shame that they have less of a place in our homes during Christmas time.

      charas friend flowey 50 times? And all in only one that one jazz arrangement? Ugh, how horribly boring. I'm so sorry. I sincerely hope you get to experience a broader musical base to help you open your mind to different kinds of music. Pity aside, claiming that this 250-year-old hymn "should" be a jazz song and that the actual traditional version of it is "NOT HOW IT SHOULD SOUND" without providing any evidence or reason beyond, "because I sing it a lot," is both childish and laughable. You can sing the same hymn a 1000 times in Carnegie Hall and that still wouldn't magically imbue you with knowledge of the documented historical validity of its tune, nor does it help you understand simple mathematics, apparently. My point was this hymn was published with the tune played here nearly 70 years before jazz was even invented. That point has yet to be refuted. If you want to say this hymn sounds better **to you** as a jazz piece than it does with its intended tune, fine. Share your opinion all you want, no one cares, but don't try to pass your opinion off as some kind of fact. That is so, so lame.

      + Gregory Kosins It's a difficult age to be a Christian in, that's for sure. I wonder what my kids will endure. At least we're not being thrown to lions or burned alive again. ...yet. We'll have to see who wins the election this year. Either it'll be illegal to be a Christian, or we'll be embarrassed to admit who we are. Heh. (little joke there, not serious... not... not really...) Anyway, when I'm feeling stomped on the by world's obvious hatred, I find reading John 15 and listening to "A Mighty Fortress" written by Martin Luther helps. Here's links to both:

    my only negative comment is the change on the last vers. :( I grew up hearing the last line as, "this holy tide of Christmas doth bring redemption's grace", which I find it to be more in line with the message of Christmas. But, even with this disagreement, I found it to be a powerful and beautiful rendition of the traditional Anglican hymn. :) Peace be with you as we prepare ourselves for this holy time of advent.

    • @smittysmeee
      @smittysmeee  8 ปีที่แล้ว +21

      +Dannie Coffey I would prefer that line as well. It's a lovely foreshadowing of Good Friday and Easter that puts the high points of the Church Year, and Christ's ministry, into one beautiful sentence. I wonder why it was ever changed. Perhaps in response to all the other "tides of Christmas" that eventually popped up: the holly-jolly holiday season, Santa, presents, parties and family reunions...? There's nothing wrong with any of that stuff, except when it begins to take precedence over the fact that "this holy tide of Christmas doth bring redemption's grace." Very interesting, thank you :D

    • @RevDanNC
      @RevDanNC 8 ปีที่แล้ว +13

      +Megan Smith no, thank you Megan! :D such a beautiful hymn:) and a very profound comment. This is what Christmas is about: adoration, peace to all, self reflection, and love. Not just to Christians, but to our brothers and sisters around the world too: Muslim, Atheist, black, white, gay, straight, etc.

      +Happygoaty Goaty (TheRunnerStudios) That would depend on whether you subscribe to American English dictionaries or not, I suppose. Of course, some have been known to call physical abuse "just mean," and racism "just a belief," but I prefer to call a spade a spade as opposed to donning euphemisms to help abusers feel better about their actions. On this channel, the dictionary definition of abuse will stand, thanks anyway: "Verbal abuse (also known as reviling or " verbal bullying") is described as a negative defining statement told to the victim or about the victim, or by withholding any response, thereby defining the target as non-existent; ...insults made using language."

    I can't stop thinking of how the advances in technology will affect future generations, people these days fill themselves with the wrong sort of things...

      I see. Like having screen names like "Poobum," for example. I'm grateful that while those who use and misuse technology have their downfalls, it has brought over 80,000 people this hymn in just this one little setting and has filled them them, at least for a few minutes, with something good. That's pretty wonderful. With the good comes the bad, and vice versa. It's all about how we use the tools God has made possible.

    Thank you for posting so many excellent Christmas hymns. Also, I have noticed some have been listening to a religious spirit saying that Christmas is a pagan holiday and Christians should not celebrate it. This is not from God. Recently, through one of his servants, Clare Dubois, Still Small Voice Channel, Jesus made it clear that Christmas was initiated in wisdom by the early Church. It was to replace the pagan holidays that were a snare to many. So, in effect, the Christians hijacked a pagan holiday and replaced it with a Christian celebration. Jesus has made it clear that there is nothing wrong with that.
    That being said, here it is nearing the end of January and I am still singing these excellent hymns in morning and evening worship, Thanks again for so many fine hymns with lyrics. I really appreciate the lyrics.

      It and Halloween are actually made from pagan traditions that the catholic church integrated with the barbarian and Christ themes to make and bring Europe together under the word of god.

      BlueflameKing1 Halloween has always been a pagan holiday. Christmas has never been a pagan hloiday. Christmas was done in wisdom by the early Church in order to hijack the 25th of December from the pagan worship of the solstice. The 25th was chosen specifically because the new converts were celebrating the pagan holiday. So you make a great mistake when you call Christmas pagan. Jesus recently called those who disparage Christmas naysayers.
