The song is one of the most beautiful songs I’ve ever heard - and I don’t understand a word of what they are singing!

Unless the Lord watches over a city, the guards keep watch in vain.
Behold! Behold! He doesn't slumber,
He doesn't slumber, he doesn't sleep,
He doesn't slumber, he doesn't sleep,
He who keeps watch over Israel.

I see a few comments disagreeing about the meaning of this song. Let’s not fight over Psalms, people!
The first verse is Psalm 127, verse 1. “If Hashem does not build the house, they labor in vain who build it.״ And the second verse sung here is Psalm 121, verse 4: “Behold, He who watches over Israel neither slumbers nor sleeps.”

Yes HaShem directly translates to "The Name" which we say instead of the actual name
The song means « if g od doesn’t Build a house, builders will be useless, if g od don’t keep (Watch) a City, the watchmen will be useless,
Here he is, he who does not slum and not sleep, the guardian of Israel”.

Don't censor the word God.
The practice of writing "G-d" instead of "God" is rooted in a tradition of reverence for the name of the divine in Jewish culture. In Judaism, the name of God is considered holy and not to be erased or destroyed. This practice stems from the interpretation of the commandment against taking the name of the Lord in vain, found in the Ten Commandments.
By avoiding writing out the full name, even in casual or non-religious contexts, some Orthodox Jews show respect and reverence for the divine. It's a way of demonstrating mindfulness and acknowledgment of the sanctity associated with the name of God. While this practice is most commonly observed in Orthodox Jewish communities, some individuals from other denominations may also choose to adopt it out of respect for Jewish tradition.

verse by verse translation:
אם ה' לא יבנה בית שוא עמלו בוניו בו
im Hashem lo yivneh bayit, shav amalu bonav bo (translation: If God will not build a house, it's builders build in vain.)
אם ה' לא ישמר עיר שוא שקד שומר
im Hashem lo yishmor eer, shav shakad shomer (translation: If God will not guard a city, the watchman wakes in vain.)
הנה לא ינום ולא יישן שומר ישראל
heenay lo yanum v'lo yishan shomer Yisrael (translation: Behold, He that guards Israel does neither slumber nor sleep.)

@@historyris27 yes, but don't worry, Jesus will be back one day and judge the lives and the deads...
@@historyris27 @antonio There is nothing here against other religions or nations. Judaism believes that you don't need to be Jewish to go to heaven, and you don't need to convert to Judaism. You just need to not murder, steal, etc.
Shalom, I'm Moroccan and I just wanna say I love your culture ❤ you have beautiful things to show to the world
Super! Excellent Video! Thumbs Up!
I am Roman Catholic from Zagreb, Croatia and I cannot get enough of this psalm for the last 4 years. I just love it!
I’m catholic as well. This song makes me feel something. I can quite put my finger on it
Translate the lyrics into your own language. It'll make sense why it's so good.

I am a Ukrainian, married to an Israeli woman, ex special forces who has her mom in Odessa, we are now fighting side by side against the occupants. Those women know how to sing, but also are deadly. I am still not sure if I made the right choice. I love these people and their music.

Last night (Oct 6th) I randomly searched "Jewish Prayer Song." Never searched this before. I woke up next morning to the news about Israel. The lyrics of this song are very relevant right now.

translation of the lyrics
unless the lord builds the houses, the builders labor in vain.
unless the lord watches over the city, the guard stand watch in vain.
indeed he who watches over Israel will neither slumber nor sleep
@@fdnylover2016 REPENT and be BORN AGAIN believing on Messiah Lord Jesus, nothing more important, today is the day of salvation and Jesus can show you the truth, its not blind faith you can see it for yourself if you truly seek like promised. John 3:3 unless a man be born again he cannot see the kingdom of God / Luke 13:3 unless you repent, you will all likewise perish ⚠️❤️⚠️❤️
It's probably the best, most energetic piece of jewish music that I've heard in my life.
Greeting from Poland.
hello from Brazil . Could you write the words they are singing in roman types, or cirilic?
Im Hashem Lo Yivneh Bayit
Shav Amlu Bonav Bo
Im Hashem Lo Yishmor Ir
Shav Shakad Shomer
Hinei Hinei Lo Yanum
Lo Yanum v'Lo Yishan
Lo Yanum v'Lo Yishan
Shomer Yisrael
I think those are the lyrics, but they may pronounce some of the words a little differently
Hello! thanks very much! so kind of you!
No problem! :)
