In this video I show the steps and procedures necessary to replace the starter on a Nissan titan. Years 2004 through 2015. If you have a Nissan Armada or Infiniti QX56 quip did with the 5.6 L V8 engine these procedures will be the same. This starter replacement is a little more difficult than your average vehicle, unfortunately the intake manifold is required to be removed in order to gain access to the starter. This video shows the steps in tips to get the job done easily. Below are a list of tools and parts that you will need when replacing the starter. I hope this video helps you out if it has please like and subscribe. If you have any questions or comments feel free to leave something in the comment section. Thank you for watching

Hey brother, I have a 04 with 236K and I believe it’s almost time for a new starter, today didn’t want to start, it was just a clicking sound, battery is fine, relays are good, so I believe it’s going to be the starter. 20 years, no bad at all.

This is a great tutorial for the DIYer. I did it on my 2010 Armada. Just one tip: It is unnecessary to remove the fuel line and the booster line. Both have enough slack, and you can carefully lay the intake sideways to the right. Save yourself time and money.

Thank you! I successfully replaced a starter in a 2015 Armada this weekend. Took about 3.5 hours in total only because I was trying to be as careful as possible. I used a swivel socket extension on a 24" flexible head breaker bar to loosen the bolts on the starter. Didn't think the double swivel contraption would give me enough torque, since it was essentially making a U shape, but it did!

11:17 Word to the wise: Verify the length of the solenoid wire before installing the new starter. Some aftermarket starters come with the lead about 2" shorter, and it WILL NOT reach the mating connector. So be sure to graft on additional length from old starter, before bolting in new starter unit.

Thank you Aaron for an Awesome Video! I have a 2005 Infiniti Qx56 with the same motor. Your video was a life saver and a time saver! Thx for all the nut size references. If I may add a couple of tips.....When putting in the intake manifold bolts, I used a Flexible 36in Claw tool Grabber and placed the 4 hooks over the bolts so I wouldn't lose them and it worked great! Also, you were right about using a 1/2 ratchet but use the long, flexible head style. You will now be able to take the stupid bolts out with ease! Lastly, WD40 did nothing but I switched to Liquid Wrench and OMG, it worked within 15 min! I did change the gaskets also. Once the starter was installed, it was easy, peasy to put it back together. Best yet? It saved me $800 bucks by doing it myself and it starts right up! Thx again!

Just FYI for those trying to do this the Video is showing the Wrong Fuel Line Disconnect tool he got lucky using a undersized plastic tool that doesn't fit. There is a ridge on the Fuel line before the input to the hole of the fuel line that makes it impossible to go flush unless you have the right fuel disconnect tool....It worked for me like in this video but I want peace of mind next time it took me many trips to Auto Stores to find the exact same tool used in this video...it's plastic and bends enough or breaks it's a crap shoot... I bought after this Job a tool that will work perfectly next time AST 8021 3/8", I'm sure there are a few other options out there too....just don't want anyone to be miss lead by this video and waste time like I had too....make sure you have ALL the right TOOLS BEFORE STARTING!!!!

Bro sorry if this is a dumb question but before I buy my starter ,, I was wondering if there's a fuse should check, I no there's a relay for it was unsure of fuse. Thank u brutha awesome job with the vids. Very detailed u make it easy for us

    • @Posichronic
      @Posichronic 4 ปีที่แล้ว

There's a set of fusible links in the fuse box behind the battery. It's the larger box in the back, not the smaller one right next to the battery. The lid of the box has a diagram on the inside. The links have clear covers on them so you should be able to see if one melted.
That link is 40A and feeds the ignition switch, so if the key works in the ACC and/or ON position, it should be fine. According to the wiring diagrams, power passes through the ignition switch to the contact side of the starter relay, which is one of the little black relays in that same box, I believe the one on the far left. From there it goes to the starter solenoid, which I believe is built into the starter motor, so if that's bad you have to replace the whole thing, annoyingly.
Might be worth checking those relays as well. Below the top bank of fuses in there, there's five standard relays. According to the service manual, from left to right they are: *(starter relay), (heated mirror relay), (not used), (cooling fan relay),* and *(ignition relay).* On mine, the "not used" slot actually has a relay in it. I don't know if that's a spare, or somebody wired something to it, or what, I'm not the original owner.
The actual starter motor doesn't seem to have any circuit protection, outside of the likelihood that the armature windings would burn up before the wiring would.

Well, unfortunately I have to take this job on very soon. This video definitely helps with how intimidating the job sounds, you make it look easy, im pretty handy anyway but this is a definite confidence boost, my starter still works, but once in a while it clicks at the solenoid, but then, will fire right up after a couple clicks, do I need a starter or should I check everything out for a loose wire? I think I'll get a new starter so I don't have to do this twice 😭 what do you think?

    Well lets see........
By the time I would be trying to wrap this procedure up, I would be swearing a blue streak because I would have broken off a couple of bolt heads due to them being seized, I would have destroyed a few wire harnesses because they wouldn't release, I would have lost some of the fasteners, I definitely would have dropped shit down those ports, and I would have long forgotten the order of putting things back together.
And for what? A starter change that should have been a fifteen minute job, if the asshole enginerr would have just DESIGNED THE DAMN THING TO GO UNDER THE VEHICLE LIKE ALL THE REST OF STARTERS!!!
This should be an easily accessible part on any vehicle and it should only cost the amount to buy the part. It shouldn't also cost 3 plus hours of labor, and it shouldn't require an entire new gasket set.
I love my NV2500 cargo van, but this design is complete bullshit.

GOOD NEWS! After 2 weeks of testing and replacing everything g , new battery, new style (black) IPDM , and then finally a new starter and manifold gaskets- boom it starts now! thank you! One more thing, never had one thing happen to my starter as in no symptoms like most have where they have intermittent start. Just turned off the car, after moving my boat, jumped back in 10 minutes later and nothing. No crank but just a click in pax side inside the car. Thanks again

Thank you very much for this wonderful lesson. I have a 2006 Nissan TITAN V8 SE. The tire gauge warning light is always on, My Mechanic could not locate where to reset it, what can I do? Also, the Oil pressure indicator remains high, What Can I do?

I have a 2012 titan, only have 90k miles on it. One morning I tried to start and just click sound like the starter is dead. I tried to jump start and clean the battery terminals and it still did the same thing. I used an other car to pull it out of the way. That afternoon I came back home and retried to start and started right up, starts like normal ever since. Does it sounds like starter issue to you or it just have a faulty start? Appreciate your opinions.

Is the Titan a good reliable truck from what you have seen? How would you compare reliability to the others? I have seen you work on quite a few F150's.

Just finished the job! You’re amazing for this video man saved me some serious change by doing it myself!! 💰💰💰
It took me 5 hours start to finish because it was hard to break the starter bolts. Anyone can do it guranteed just have a heavy hammer to break those 2 starter bolts or a swivel wrench like his.
Also, I did not disconnect the fuel line like I saw someone else say in the comments, it does have enough slack 👍👍👍
Amazing video 10/10 5 star thumbs up for sure

We have a 2 Titans in the family and every time I lift the hood to check fluids I tell myself... Other than routine maintenance I wouldn't want to touch this engine with a ten for pole haha. Everything just fits under that stubby hood. 225k on a starter isn't bad I could only imagine the cost to replace this I'm guessing $300-$500 in labor plus parts there a bouts... In this video he made it look so easy 👍

You can do this in 1.5 hrs hardest part is the 2 bolts on the starter it self.

When you finished did you happen to spill some fluid near the manifold? Cause I did and when I started the truck up some white smoke came out and smelt burnt so I don’t know if I messed something up or if it was just burning the fluid that spilt
