This is pretty cool. I always wanted to get a PCH1100, but the proprietary port is unfortunate for cable compatibility.
I appreciate your method of converting the port to USB C, as I don't want to cut the shell and I don't have a hot air station to remove the original port.
Could I use a USB C board from a USB C to A adapter? I have a few of those as spares.

I don't see why not, just check it has two 5.1k resistors on the board if you want to use a C - C charger (which probably won't be the case for a C to A adapter) and somewhere to solder wires to.
If not, you can find USB C breakout boards pretty cheaply, I only made a custom one to better fit the housing.
I'd love to do the internal mod, but I figure the risk of breaking the Vita is too great.
