Best tip for installing the new bearings is to put them in the freezer overnight, heat up the housing a bit and they should drop right in! This way you put no stress on them when installing.
you guys are making some great videos...i like how you show alternate methodologies, not just the expensive proper tools as well as mcguyver solutions...keep it up
Mine were so seized I had to use a carbide die grinder bit to cut the old ones out, be careful not to cut too deep, I got deeper than I wanted to. Good video! Will help me get it back together right, I like the socket/vise combo.
Ah man! I wanted to see you put it together to see how they move by hand. Should they move easily or kind of stiff? That’s real important. I think they all say 28lbs on the torque wrench but I know if they are to tight the rear suspension won’t work
this video makes it look so much easier then it is. i had a brand new bearing and the swingarm linkage was still super clean but i can't get that damn bearing in. i literally broke 3 different tools trying lol.
@Dane Bowers You should be able to press both bearings out the same side. Like we show in the video start on one side and press the one bearing in towards the middle and it should contact the other bearing. From there you should be able to press them both out the same side. What bike are you working on?
Im replacing mine tomorrow. They have never been done on my bike and have been there for 23 years. Even getting the bolts off the linkage is a pain in the ass.
its a 2009 yz250. and you cant its machined and the middle is thinner/tighter. the bearing had not much to get a punch on and wouldn't budge. ended up welding a nut into the bearing shell and pressing it out with an extension bar through from the other side pushing the nut out with a vise.
They drove one on the bearings inward and out the other side along with the other bearing. If you watch carefully you will see him remove one bearing and then proceed to remove the other.
YZ250 nowdays has an inner edge to stop the bearings on the link. It really makes it hard to press them out, since you can not just puss them out hrough. I'm still waiting for all those special bearings removal tools to come in my mail :/
Nive video. Why isn't any grease points from the factory? Fresh grease in the middle old is pushed out, and cleaned. You wouldn't need to disassemble the whole rear suspension
I am having the same major issues as others have trying to get the bearings out of my "dog Bone" link on a 2015 KTM 250 SX. Could not "press" them through from one side. Seems they have to come out from the side they were pressed in from. Schematics do not show a sleeve in between them. Had to regrease and reassemble leaving the new one's in the kit. Do I really need to buy a bearing puller for this part?
I checked the microfiche for your bike model. There is a bearing sleeve, but the sleeve rides on the two needle bearings. You should be able to push the bearing sleeve out to gain access to the two needle bearings on both ends of the dog bone and either using the DIY method (hammer them out evenly with a common screwdriver) or get a puller to pull them up and out.
What size bearings are in the linkage for 2018 Husky FE501? Does the Motion Pro tool fit the linkage still? I did call MP they said please measure. I don't want to remove the linkage just to measure, I know that sounds lazy.
***** Wow that sounds like quite the rig, congrats on getting it out! I have yet to see a setup like that. Usually the service manual will have you locate each bearing inside the linkage piece. I wonder if a blind bearing puller commonly used for replacing wheel bearings would've worked.
***** You'll need to do your best to center it. Use a little ruler of some sort. Make sure you have enough space for the seals to seat. Thanks for watching man!
Any other suggestions on how to get the bearings out, I’m using a vice and sockets but the bearings are that wedged the socket is just breaking the lip on the bearing which is giving me less leverage to force it through
is there a little space in front linkage horizontally? I can move it a little bit left and right between front linkage and Its holder. but It doesnt move in vertically. I just instal new one. I already instaled new one.
Hi guyz , i appreciate your videos! I wonder if i could only spray the bearings with wd40? or brake cleaner? instead of removed them. than after i apply the grease.. They dont need to be changed Thanks

At 4:44 of the video, how the heck did you get that socket inside of the pivot link when both bearings on each side are the same size? I am trying to remove those and I haven't found one video or suggestion on how to remove these!! Thanks to all replies!
You will need to press one of the bearings down through the pivot link, butting it up against the bearing on the other side. Pressing both bearings out through one side. Hope this helps. ~Vinny
Vinnie, the bearings on my 2001 CR250 look to be only removable from pulling each one out. They do not push in (I tried with socket, bench vise and long breaker bar) maybe there is a lip behind it?
Have they ever been replaced before or greased? These bearings are exposed to a lot of dirt, mud and water and they're a bear to remove if they have not been kept up on regular maintenance and they tend to rust inside. You can try doing this, press it in the vise using the socket method.. apply a lot of pressure, then tap the pivot link with a hammer and that should cause the bearing to break free inside. This is what i've had to do with some linkage rebuilds. Keep us posted.. thanks! ~Vinny
You may end up needing to use a bearing puller tool to remove the bearings out from each side? That "tube/collar" needs to be pushed out in order to use this tool. Here is the link: www.rockymountainatvmc.com/p/989/20342/Tusk-Bearing-Remover
in your demonstration, did you get out both needle bearings on the same side? one bearing pushing on the other one? Im wondering if i should push both bearings on one side and getting them out both on the other side... my bike is a cr250r 2003, i just ask before ordering the pivot works kit, thanks!
Rocky Mountain ATV MC i was refering to the arm with the 3 pivot points where there is 2 bearings in the same hole, but thanks, good information too! how did you get the socket inside the dog bone when you remove the first bearing? not much room
There's no room. You can't use the socket method on the bone ( the tuning fork looking piece). The bearing cages sit flush with the inner diameter of the bone. I removed all the needles and tried to pound, heat, pound the cage outward with no luck. I'm just wrecking the outside of the cage with a fraction of outward movement. Did you get it done?
It depends on the bike. Pay attention to how yours comes out and verify the orientation with the manual. Let me know if you can't find the info. -Charles
@@rmatvmc thank you for the reply my friend....when i disassembled mine the seals were just like you put it your video...thats why i searching for the correct way...i checked the manual and the fotos are not so clear...the bike is ktm gs 620 1996

joe t freeze the bearings
Thank you, this is a very pleasant video.
So, the connecting link bearings can be pushed all the way through? A video I watched said the inside middle is concaved ...
Did you get an answer on this? The wide end of the connecting link, can you press them right through?
@Dane Bowers You should be able to press both bearings out the same side. Like we show in the video start on one side and press the one bearing in towards the middle and it should contact the other bearing. From there you should be able to press them both out the same side. What bike are you working on?
It has a machined step in the part you have to push them out from opposite ends
Im replacing mine tomorrow. They have never been done on my bike and have been there for 23 years. Even getting the bolts off the linkage is a pain in the ass.
Old comment but uh howd you go 🤣🤣

My 80cc honda gas about 3inches of play in the suspension
how do you get the socket into the connecting arm if its the same size as the bearing and you havnt got one side out already?
They drove one on the bearings inward and out the other side along with the other bearing. If you watch carefully you will see him remove one bearing and then proceed to remove the other.

Does the Motion Pro tool install the bearings to the correct depth or do I still have the measure to see if it’s centered ??
What about daily rides?... Does it need 6 months or 3 months of linkage service?..

Use some heat..
Adam Santoza yeah tried the torch on it no luck .... guess I’ll just have to leave it to someone who has the bearing tools
Great video. It would be a great idea to do the swingarm bearings aswell.
