Thank you for the great video. You saved me a lot of work. The "crowbar checking method" proved that the play in the swingarm was caused by a broken linkage bearing. I was about to rip the swingarm off and tap the bearings out. Many thanks!!
Thank you for making these videos. I’m going to be buying your KX250 engine rebuild videos because I’m a moron and I tore it all apart and then let it sit for a few years and I don’t remember wtf I’m doing! That’s after I get her at least rolling (frame up build). Thanks again!!!
Fantastic video! Very descriptive! Answered every question I could have about this particular job, and proper maintenance going forward. Now, to get the pivot bolt out of my '01 KDX 200. I'm planning to wear my helmet until I'm finally able to remove it! Thanks again for posting this wealth of knowledge and instruction. Very grateful! Ride safely!
Excellent video. Priceless learning. 👍. I went with the link for the kit but it only starts at 125. Does anyone know where I can get a kit for a YZ 85??
u can also use a long bolt with some washers and a nut to pull the bearing out. just put a washer on the bolt put it through the socket and then put it through the swing arm and do the same on the other side with a nut and just tighten away
Hi, Thanks for the video, I'm trying to do this but my bearings are really stuck, does it matter which side you push them out? looks like its easier form the inside to outside.
I stripped my vice today doing this. I commented a while back about my dad's KX 250 but now I own a CR 250 and I'm doing the same thing but they were so stuck.
MatthewMCRepair yeah that's not a big deal but also I wanted to share something you might find interesting My chain adjuster Bolt got stuck in my motorbike and tried everything believe me, I put a blow torch on it, on it and tried welding 2 nuts to it and still couldn't get it and I had to pay to get it drilled and tapped and heli coil inserted.
I’m tripping here.. I bought a brand new CRF450 in 2010 and I always remember thinking the play in the swing arm was really odd.. you could lift the rear wheel like 10-15mm but because it was brand new I thought it was fine. I had the bike for 4years and it never got any worse but I think it was the lower shock bearing. I have a 2021 CRF450 now and as soon as I got it I noticed there was no play which seemed strange because of the 2010 bike I had and I’ve just thought about it today so started doing research.
you ever just leave the bearings in and clean them as much as you can with them in the swingarm, like with starting fluid or gasoline, then just regrease them? Thanks for the video man, these take a long time to make I bet this took a solid 10 hours to make and edit.
that's a tough one. I recently did mine on a DRZ400 and had the same issue. I loosened the nut and moved the swingarm so it will slide on the axle and for a week I sprayed penetrating oil on the entire shaft, the left side, thru the engine and the right side. eventually I inserted a shaft with a nut and washer and used a small hammer to knock it out of its place and it worked. I also prepared a tool that could remove it. the tool is a long threader shaft that goes in the axle and large pipe on the right side (that will have a place for the axle to get out), on top of the pipe I located a 36 mm socket and washers and nut on both sides. then the nut needs to be tighten and pull the axle to the large pipe side. I'm afraid that if both methods fail the next one might be to cut the axle with a rotary disc tool which I haven't done and don't recommends. good luck, be patient with it and be carful not to damage the axle (although its not that bad if it helps you removing it - it replaceable) and be carful on the frame because I've seen some guys hammering the frame and denting it.
Whoa didn't realize you were in Chicago! How about I buy you an actual beer instead of a virtual one sometime!? You've been a ton of help in my garage.
Step 1. Have a great shop with unlimited tools at your disposal. Work not for the average weekend warrior unfortunately. Nice video nonetheless. I pick up an MI/IL/WI accent? :-}
when you work on things over time you aquire more tools for more jobs, plus end up making tools too. just takes starting somewhere to begin the collection. money saved from mechanic bills adds to building a decent tool collection fairly quickly!

Long but excellent, seeing something start-to-finish has really given me confidence to do this myself for the first time. THANKS!

All thread works really nice for removal of the bearings. You can stack everything in place on the rod and tighten the nuts to pull everything out.

You rock dude. Thank you so much for your detailed videos and dedication to teaching. You have helped me tremendously
Great video. Through bolt bearing press method is stable, cheap, easy, and effective
7:07 will definitely use this trick next time I'm troubleshooting problems with both my car and bike. Mega thanks. 🙌
Thank you very much 😊 your video made it easy to understand, step by step.and clear and great visual ! Thanks gain
Drop a little oil into the c clamp ball/socket swivel. It will reduce the chance of spinning the socket off the bearing. Excellent tutorial!
Good tip.
This is definitely the best video ive seen please do more
Thanks!
MatthewMCRepair please do a video about adjusting valves will really appreciate it so i dont have to take my bike to the shop
What year make model?

super informative!!!! Subbed!! but umm, should we wash the bike before working on it?
Excellent video. Priceless learning. 👍. I went with the link for the kit but it only starts at 125. Does anyone know where I can get a kit for a YZ 85??
You're the man Matthew
Great!! Really glad I found the channel!
I see from Colombia 🇨🇴 is amazing good job

Thanks men, just remembered that I got to this again on my WR250R during this winter...
Ha, winter should be here real soon up by you.
thanks for the tutorial, very well done.
Hi, Thanks for the video, I'm trying to do this but my bearings are really stuck, does it matter which side you push them out? looks like its easier form the inside to outside.
You'll run into tolerance issues if you use a vice. Use a threaded rod, washers, nuts and the right size sockets and crank em out with two wrenches.
Very helpful thank you 👍
This video and all the “don’t spray your bike” makes me so glad to know I’ve always hand washed mine and was carful around moving parts😭
I stripped my vice today doing this. I commented a while back about my dad's KX 250 but now I own a CR 250 and I'm doing the same thing but they were so stuck.
That sucks. Going to need a press for that job.

Fast Mcdoogle you must have a really gay vice
Great video
Nice video- Question on one side is it normal for the final barrel to have some side to side movement?
Thanks
Not sure what you mean final barrel?
Sleeve and ends that run on the inside on

Great video....very well done.
Thanks, great video.
Mine swing arm bolt was so freaking stuck in there about 25 mins with a 5 pound sledge to get it out 😲
What about the otherbearing and seal on bottom of swingarm?
Buenos vídeos amigo 👍
Thanks for the video!
No prob!
Very very perfect

Yes if the bearings are still good. You should do it annually or every 15hr ride time.
i bought a 1987 Yamaha TT 350 and the rear shock and swing arm are removed from the bike and i have no idea how it goes back together
What size is the c clamp?
thank you
My rear swing arm shaft is really stuck tried hammer and WD , who has pressed it out before ? Also will pressing damage my frame ?
Drill and tap shaft for a slide hammer.
What goes on the motor? Is there a slide or bearings there as well?
Usually bushings.
Very comprehensive
What happens if your swing arm axel, what holds it on at the foot pegs won’t even budge with lubricant on it and hitting it with a hammer?

Is there something that I can do to lube without taking all apart? (For maintenance)
No, afraid not.
MatthewMCRepair oooooook Thanks ;)
Man my 06 Swingarm wont come in with all the collars (its powdercoated)
Shop wanted 1300 for this done and a couple of bolts... I think IL do it myself
How far do you put in the bearing
Refer to service manual, they have a nice diagram for depth. What year make model? Same as mine?
Whoa didn't realize you were in Chicago! How about I buy you an actual beer instead of a virtual one sometime!? You've been a ton of help in my garage.
I'm in Mt. Prospect. How about you?
Naperville! Small world.
Sure is!
Where did you buy that press?
Harbor freight 20T
Could you do this without heating the swingarm
Yes.
You need to be careful not to get dirt down your fingernails
Is it bad if I pushed the inside seal all the way in???
You working on a KX250? How far we talking here? Does it still seal the collar?
Went to japan not long ago and picked up that same vessel screwdriver. Its asweome
not as bad as mine my sleeves Don't even move.
Can you use wheel bearing grease?
Yes, however I would use a waterproof grease.
Bought a poorly maintained 2000 YZ 125. I’m scared to even try😂
Haha guaranteed that they are bone dry and rusty by now.
I picked up a 99 RM 125 and the swingarm bolt was seized in there so bad ...bearings bone dry . Some people have no clue about proper maintenance lol.
is this fixable I'll reply to myself with a vidoe link on my channel.
Use a heat gun not fire on the aluminum part
This looks like Jeremy renner
Easy when you get on the moto and the swingarm goes err eee then it's time
Yeah that too LOL
Why would you drive the bearing the long way out ?????? Tff to watch

I'm from Chicaaaaaago.

40 minutes wtf lol
Get a pw80
And do project in it
Maybe when kids master the pw50.
MatthewMCRepair oh ok because i have one but it has problem and i dont what wrong with it but i have videos in the channel
I watched the video. I would start with a good carb clean, followed by idle and air screw adjustment.
MatthewMCRepair i did and brought a new carb
Talking to much
