  • yogalap.com | In this video Michaël makes a comprehensive explanation of the Eight Limbs of Yoga to get a better understanding of Raja Yoga practice and how to implement it in daily life.
    An Overview of the Eight Limbs of Yoga:
    1 - The Yamas are rules of moral code and include ahimsa (non-violence or non-harming), Satya (truthfulness), asteya (non-stealing), brahmacharya (sexual restraint), and aparigraha (non-possessiveness).
    2 - The Niyamas are rules of personal behavior including saucha (purity), santosha (contentment), tapas (discipline or austerity), svadhyaya (spiritual studies), and Ishvara Pranidhana (constant devotion to God).
    3 - Asana refers to yoga postures but in Patanjali’s initial practice, it referred to mastering the body to sit still for meditation. The practice of yoga asanas came about eight centuries later, which helped disciples ready their bodies for meditation.
    4 - Pranayama is yoga breathing technique designed to control prana or vital life force.
    5 - Pratyahara means withdrawal of the senses.
    6 - Dharana refers to concentration.
    7 - Dhyana is the practice of meditation.
    8 - Samadhi means absorption/ merging with the divine and is a state of super consciousness

    I absolutely love your explanations. Thank you for relaying this ancient wisdom in such a clear way. Im also a yogi and agree with the true meaning of yoga....moving away from the obsession with asana..and more about cultivating our awareness on all levels. I agree there is much ego on the yoga arena these days. May we all cultivate true peace and humility. 😇

    I'm happy I found your channel. :) I had a dream last night about a little girl that sometimes takes yoga classes. I was trying to figure out what message God was trying to send me, because I don't know anything about yoga & I've never taken a yoga class. But lately, I've been trying to stay close to God & figure out his will for me & trying to hear him & let him guide me. (I'm not a little girl, by the way, but God shows me as a little girl many times in my dreams.)
    Anyway, what a happy surprise to learn that yoga means to merge my awareness with the awareness of God. :)

    Thanks for sharing! I have a few questions for you. I'm very interested in reading the ancient Hindu scriptures to learn more about Hinduism and the origins of yoga and pranayama. Have you read the scriptures? If so, would you recommend that I learn Sanskrit in order to read and understand them? Or are there good English translations you would recommend? Finally, I'm wondering which scriptures to read and in what order to read them; as far as I understand, these scriptures are not contained in one "bible."

    • @yogalap
      @yogalap  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Dear MyHitti, wonderful to see you are interested in deepening your knowledge in these matters. I would recommend reading the yoga sutras of Patanjali. It is of course wonderful to learn Sanskrit, but there are many good translations also. Much more important than reading is practicing meditation, asana and pranayama. Be kind and generous and keep connecting with your source, all true wisdom will be found there.
      May all be blessed with peace and good energy. 🙏❤️✌️

      Wouldn't that be great if instead of producing weapons the money and material would be used for the improvement of life on earth. Imagin that. 2 Triljon US$ a year is spend on warfare. That money could be used in so many wonderful ways. When human consciousness will rise, this will also happen. Rise your consciousness and inspire others to do so as well. Keep shining.
