Very cool that you're helping Jared with the Judge bike. Do you prefer a helicoil or time-sert for spark plug holes? The ones you used don't look like helicoils.
@@dirtyshirtrichter8647 thats what I figured. I just did my first thread repair using a time-sert. It seems like a good product. A couple years ago I had a local mechanic fix a spark plug hole on my bike and I'm pretty sure he used a heliocoil, which surprised me because everything Ive read says a time-sert is a better option. If it happened today I'd do it myself, but back then I was new to vintage bikes and didn't feel confident to do it myself. it's held up so far, but I kinda wanna ask the guy why he used a helicoil not a time-sert.
@@daveco1270sometimes you don't have enough "meat" around the hole to use a BaerFix (cheaper and way better than TimeSert in my opinion) or a TimeSert. Unfortunately. Sometimes (engine covers for example) you can get away with a smaller thread, though. M6 instead of 1/4-20 for example. The M6 TimeSert has about the same diameter as a 1/4-20 helicoil.
Ive got a 1966 T100SC with 8460 original miles on it. Its sat in a garage since 1973. Any advice for going through the engine? Planned on carb rebuild, change and flush fluids, inspect valves/gears and such before even thinking about trying to get it started haha worried about ruining the motor despite it looking to be in good shape...
id be more worried about the time it has sat then miles... ive seen engine with low miles that lived a HARD life and sitting that long the sludge tube may be rock hard just somehting to consider man
