Glad to see someone with a good handle on balance factors for parallel twins and the pertinent weight measurements. BTW: Do you assemble the rods with the bearing tabs facing forward or rearward, or does it even matter?
thanks man! and i know someone is going to have an option on it but as far as my work no it does not
Always learn something new from this guy! Knurled pistons, news to me! Happy Holidays!
Haha DuDe!! I've done a couple vintage Honda teardowns and found knurled pistons inside!! Very cool to see you pull out a couple yourself. I figured that shops did that back in the day to get the bikes back on the road ASAP. Thx for showing all this stuff and commenting on everything. 🤙🛠️
i had a nice little lecture about how back in the day it was so hard to get parts so you had to do what you had to do lol maybe i was a bit harsh. im glad we dont have to anymore
@@dirtyshirtrichter8647 That totally make sense... We take it for granted big time. And even magnets used to be VERY expensive (hard to get?) I was told... Crazy.
The hardest part of watching your video is the fact I can't distract you with comments and end up 10 tangents deep just to end with "fuck it's noon already? Wanna go get lunch?"
id rather have that anyway! lol everyday is fine by me
That sounds familiar !😂
I had to look up knurling pistons :).... Must take a fair bit of effort in itself?
its something else!
One of the comment posters thought the deterioration of the oil pipes may have been the source of the stringy sludge, Any thoughts of your own?
i think there is a very good chance!!
NORTON SPOKEN HERE! You say you have a lot of performance Norton parts. If and when you ever get time you might want to film a high-performance Norton build. Large CC j e Schmidt products Norton Auto head etc. or a short stroke screamer. You certainly have all the necessary machines to accomplish this. Some of us old goats remember the day is gone past. Remember one thing" Norton spoken here"love watching your podcasts.
man i hope to some day id love to show a new generation what cool looks like! id try and make you goats proud!
Who is this engine builder? And where?
im in iowa richter machining
Man we could do with someone with your skill set and attitude here in the UK!! We’ve lost so many engineers in recent years. Very sad
it always makes me sad hearing that
I like your clutch holding-tool. 🙂
Nice! Still waiting on my P11
the struggle is real
haha things that shouldnt be filmed
Another excellent video - keep em coming from a fan here in Britain
Awesome, thank you!
Looking forward to this 👍🙏
me too man should be a strong one!
Awesome man! I love my N15cs. Head can be removed while in the frame but it's a huge pain. I removed my exhaust rocker spindles to give me more movement with the pushrods. One of those jobs where I ask myself why do I work on these things.
i never would have thought about the rockers going in after! smart move
you got a Norton i got an A50 hahaha luv it
I'm still curious if Permatex Aviation form-a-gasket and silk thread would seal case halves. It works on airplanes.
id love to try it!
Can you tell me what tyres you are running front and back? Cheers

Picked up some nice tips with this vid. Lifting the jugs to remove clamps and attaching the base gasket to the jugs. Nice work.
Appreciate it! I try to share what I've learned.
Great watch as always
Killing It!!!!
Great explication of the process 👍!!!!!.......one question.......the royal Enfield build .....when is part 2 🤔????, i ask because i have the same bike (650 enfield ) ,I'm thinking of doing the same , I'm waiting to see the end result. Peace out ✌
that video didnt do very well so i wasnt super motivated to do a fallow up. ive rode it around and now its coming back apart for paint and final details. ill do a final assembly video and a walk around/ ride in the spring
OK 👍,I'll wait until the video comes out ,if the final result is anything like your normal builds its gonna be brilliant 😁, until then ....keep them coming !!!. Peace out ✌️
That's why i like my 4 bolt set up so well... jugs's up side down on the bench..... install one piston at a time way easy..Install the next piston. Also you only need one ring compressor.Once both piston's are installed just flip the jug's over to install.Next i install 4 base nut's to the 4 squared up stud's The 4 in the center close together and then thread the 4 bolt's appox 3 1/4 long to the base nut's.Next just flip your jug's over with the piston's that have all ready been installed on top off the 4 bolt's and your on.Now you can let go of the jug's because the jug are sitting on top of the 4 bolt head's ..No strain no pain. Now adjust your 4 nut's up or down so you can slip your piston sleeve in to the piston with no problem..Beat's trying to hold on to the heavy jug and try and work them over you pistons and ring's.........This work's great when you are doing a top end only and the engine is still mounted in the frame and you are by your self.Work's great as well when on the bench and your engine is mounted on a engine stand.....Hope this my help someone's job go a bit better.......Phil.....
Most awesome! Thanks!
Thanks for another great video good sir! I wonder could you tell me what grit hone you use for those Hepolite rings? I have the same rings to retro-fit to my 67' Daytona as the NOS LF Harris rings (and pistons) I originally fitted after boring are still smoking a bit after a couple of hundred miles. Best Regards Paul
good video and explanation of the process. like your meticulous and discriminating methods
Appreciate the feedback!
Hi are you able balance the steel H beam rods ok?
this engine didnt get balanced but when i have it doesnt take much correction... not as much as you think
@@dirtyshirtrichter8647 thanks for the reply mate, great channel BTW
Hey. Thanks for all the videos. Super informative and fascinating for a Brit bike nerd like me. I’d love to learn about cylinder/ring seating and break in. What do you recommend. I’m building a TR6 desert sled here in Vermont over the winter and I really want to start it up before I can take it for a break in ride. Is that not a good idea? Thanks!
hey man so starting it to like check timing and such would be okay but to seat rings there needs to be a good load on the engine so dont run it too much
@ thanks. Proud to say it fired right up once I set the timing right. I’ll be that kook riding in 40deg once the roads are clear. I have another request- would you make a video on your process for fixing boogered up threads? Helicoil? Thread repair? And most importantly. How do you figure out the proper pitch and thread count? It’s an important step that I have not seen anyone go into great detail on. Thanks!
Awesome work you do A J, your attention to detail is great!!
Thanks man, I try my best!
Looks fantastic
Another very informative video! Great work 🎉 looking forward to the polished motor assembly.
The build will be coming soon!
Wow polished engine is a great job
thank you!
luv it
Just amazing polish on that sucker. Great work dude.
Appreciate that! Took a long time to get it right.
That polished motor is sweet. I cant imagine the work that must have taken.
im going to do a video of the build!
Man,don't beat yourself up about long video's, I'll watch again and again lol,I appreciate all the filming you do especially the tranmission ones, looks easy to me now, many years ago I was led to believe the only way was to assemble all parts in a cluster and slowly insert it all in one swoop IF you held your tongue just rite you might get it in a few toys, I think Keith has fatter fingers like me and took him a few tries ,yea, doing the same motors over and over may seem boring to some but I stick with it, he'll! It's fun watching keep em coming Ritch, we'll keep watching, many thanks!
man thanks i needed to hear that
Great video - keep doing them, I have 2 engines to do myself. Would like to see the timing chest install as my last T140 was mis-timed by the previous owner and it through me off for some time.
Hi. Great videos. I wonder if you could a bit more about the intermittent camshaft wheel and the problems with a loose fitting spindle explaining some of the solutions. You mentioned here it’s a problem. Guess what, I’ve got that problem. Thanks again.
its a sticky situation man let me see if i can find a good way to talk about it... a good machine shop can sleeve that for you but its super important to get it right
I have saved your trans videos and not a single one shows the proper way to install the layshaft needle bearing,
do you have a workshop manual ?
Watched a multitude of tranny vids and nobody shows the proper to install the layshaft needle bearing,
Always enjoy your videos even if you feel you are repeating thing. I am curious about the scavenger tube in the crankcase drain. Had a problem with an aftermarket drain plug. After installing it, had a wet sump condition. Went back to the OEM drain plug.
A man with Keith's talent and skills makes things look easy, but really, a 4 speed gear box shouldn't scare people! These bikes are so much more enjoyable when you do the work yourself! Thanks for the video!
Great to see ya back, thanks AJ.
Appreciate the support!
perfect timing....poured a whiskey ....rolled a J ....and watched the whole vid while sitting in the kitchen surrounded by Triumph parts.....a good way to waste a Saturday afternoon in New Zealand....should be assembling what's here...lol.....🥃
hell yeah man! have fun
i am goin to buy you a case of silly cone hahaha
i know just what to do with it lol
Great idea about heating the socket
Hey loving the content Always engaging
hey thanks man!
I gotta double nut right here... ayeooo
🎉🎉🎉🎉
Hey is that my pile I see there? lol RA
yup!
