Van Halen goes perfectly with this intro to be honest. The cover car for the US version was the LM Spec Ford GT.

Playing the Old Gran Turismo's from 4-1 is like meeting an old friend. So much Nostalgia and since then everything has changed. We Grew up with the REAL DRIVING SIMULATOR and had so many tears, headaches and Victory Smiles. From Mission 34 to the Formula Cars to the Roulette Wheel in GT3. Gran TUrismo will forever hold the Trophy for best Simulator and Forza gains #2
I had a friend who insisted Forza was better. Motorsport has no intro, 3 soundtracks, and a lazy car list compared to Gran Turismo 5's over one thousand. Not to mention, they made the tracks so smooth they're not fun to drive. also, drag tires on an LMP? try again, Forza.
@@deleted9263 All Motorsport games up to 4 had intros, and pretty good ones at that. Smooth tracks? Yeah, generally, with the exception of Sebring and its bumpy-ass second-last corner. Lazy? They definitely got lazy by the time of Motorsport 5, but then again, there's only so many different model years and generations of every car that exist that you can put into a game before it gets samey or you have to start adding cars you had in prior titles (Which is not a bad thing on its own).
Gran Turismo and Forza also handle their vehicle physics and handling characteristics in very different manners from eachother, though both are strong in my opinion.
Both games let you do whatever the hell you want within the limitations of the game, Forza is just more willing to take it to the more silly side with absurd drivetrain and engine swaps, running drag slicks on an LMP, turning a VW bus into a drift machine, etc.
Both have fallen off hard as of late, Forza Horizon 5 is just a repaint of a repaint of a repaint, etc, while Motorsport 7 ate the dirt so hard it was pulled from the marketplace, and Motorsport 8 / 2023 has yet to come out. GT7 meanwhile feels like a bad parody of the Gran Turismo formula, and lets you do everything except play the friggin game.

This game came out in 2004 and STILL looks insane even to this day.
This is the type of game intro that you can't skip. This is art, it gives you chills, you feel like a real driver, you can feel the adrenaline through your veins, you can see that every detail has been meticulously calculated. The best racing game ever.
This was my childhood! One of the best openings to a racing game ever.

I remember watching this intro for the first time and being captivated by the opera. Then Panama starts blasting and I just go nuts. Van Halen and a Ford GT! The most American shit ever!
2004 was the best Year for PS2! such a great Games like Gran Turismo 4, GTA:San Andreas and many others ^_^

This was on the PS3
For 3 years of my life, GT4 was my only friend, my only coping mechanism, my only scape from the world. And I don't give a FLYING F*** if you think that a better intro for a game exist, but FOR ME this will be forever my favorite intro, my favorite soundtrack, and my favorite game, because it was the only thing I had at that time, that kept me from thinking and doing the worst. Thank you Polyphony, for keeping me alive at one of my worst and darkest times! ❤️
As if it was yesterday....
GT4 was my first game of the good 'ol PS2, played 1 and 2 on PSX, and got this one before the 3, also for PS2.
Everything about this intro is a masterpiece.
In the beginning you get our famous cover car, that LM SPEC FORD GT, in a lot of enviroments to show us the graphic quality of the game...then in boxes, the voices from the opera song rises as you realize car's about to hit the track: 0:58
You see each person involved in the race, everything prepares, the helmet..with "Gran Turismo 4" wrote down on it: 1:36
Then the best song choice for the opening starts, Van Halen - Panama
All of the cars lining up for the race, leaving boxes...
Song starts and you get "The drive of your life" in the middle of the screen: 1:56
Intros are a big part of the game...they really are
They don't do them like this anymore, you get a loading screen and then the title menu, so boring
I remember getting so excited for a game by looking at the intro! And this one? Cheff kiss.

I was 16 when this came out. I had always loved cars, But at 16 i was at the age where i was learning to drive. Because of that, this game hit harder for me then it did for people who were kids back then. Now at 35, seeing this brings me chills and reminds me of where my love of driving started.

Definitely one of the best intros for any game I have ever played. Just absolutely epic and that lead into Panama is just delicious.
1:43 That is my racing song. The moment the gun goes off for a track/cross country race I hear that intro start playing in my head and I just take off. It's also my drive fast song (which is why I don't drive to it ;))
i remember playing this when i was like 7 :) im 15 now so even back then the game was amazing. really miss it :( was awesome it really opened up a new type of racing to the Gran Turismo Series.

As much as I love 'Moon over the Castle', I feel that the second part of the GT4 intro simply has too much action for the symphonistic (not an actual word) feel of 'Moon over the Castle'. Panama by Van Halen suits this role much better.

I'm deeply adore GT5 but it cannot come close to the feel and magic of GT4.

When they made the perfect Gran Turismo. A tirbute to the First one, they take the awesome diverse things of the second one and enhanced the love and beauty of the third one. The best of all and music. Just perfect.

my dad bought this for my siblings and i back in '07. i remember i accidentally scratched the disc 🤣 so when the intro would start it would have a bunch of distorted lines and pixels when the ford gt comes up with the music. oh man what a time
Cara… tenho 14 anos e tive o privilégio de jogar essa maravilha abençoada no PS2. Me lembro dos meus 4 anos jogando e por mais que eu tenha o GT Sport e 7 no PS4, esse vai estar sempre guardado aqui no meu coração. Saudades da infância, onde tudo era mais fácil e a gente não dava bola pras coisas que hoje temos de nos importar. Muito obrigado GT 4, você fez a minha infância ainda mais gratificante!

1:04 when I first listened to the intro as a kid I didn’t like it right away so I tried skipping it, i’d say a month into owning the game I got to this part and it just changed my mind and now as i’m 24 years old and listening to this i’m forever thankful for it, I first played Gran Turismo 3, then got Gran Turismo 2 from a friend and then this game was just perfection to me for racing games. So many memories with great soundtracks for these games

Isn't it funny though, how music is used and re-used throughout gaming history?
Taking Van Halen's Panama, for example. In 2005, it was a part of the soundtrack for this game and in 2009, was a part of Guitar Hero: Van Halen.
Then another favorite, STP's Sex Type Thing, back in 1999, was a part of the soundtrack for Gran Turismo 2, then in 2008, was also a song in Guitar Hero Aerosmith and then later, in 2009, was re-released in Guitar Hero 5 as a DLC.
This is definitely the best version of this intro (But I'm biased here, I grew up with it lol)
