Great video. You would think that by now motorcycle helmet companies would integrate some type of camera mount solution to make it easier to install action cams to your helmet.
SuGru for the win for me and my install looks just as clean. I was super worried it wouldn't hold or the UV would break it down and I'd loose a GoPro but it's lasted all summer and into fall. My bike is parked for a few months and I plan to use SuGru to custom mold GoPro buckle mounts all over my bike for additional camera angles. Great video, thanks for taking the time to film your install. A quick edit with regards to your chin guard advice. This is crucial people, probably the most important bit of advice on a mic install. The more you can "enclose" your head inside that helmet the better. There is NOTHING worse than bad audio. Your helmet is your sound booth. Oh, those silicon bits are used for swimming. You can find it in most sport stores or anywhere they stock swim gear.
Nope, bad idea. Often a front mounted camera is easily knocked out of position, and the whole idea of the thumb screws is to adjust this easily on the fly. Take an Allen key with you? Watch how easy you lose that when you need it lol. Stick to thumbscrews. No one is going to stand back in horror because it spoils the helmet aesthetics lol. Secondly, having to use that audio adapter clumped onto the side is insane. Stick to older and perfectly adequate GoPro's or use a different cam with a sensible audio jack.
i have mounted on the same spod but i was using Sugru paste, with this paste its posiblle to fix how ever you wont. And its fixed better than anything else
I'm really impressed with the Rpha70, and with your setup. But what a faff! I'm just pleased their are quality vloggers like you out there doing all this for our amusement! 🙏
Took me years to get to the same set up as you but it works well. I don't vlog instead I connected the mic to the rear of my bike to get great sound track to go with my footage.
Also good! Impossible to get good voice audio and at the same good bike audio, just from the helmet mic. I use an external audio recorder under the seat if I'm filming something short. Becomes a pain for all day, or more complicated rides out.
@@thelikeablerider8800 There is. Think it looks good on the helmets cause its pretty slim. Just got one for my X-lite 803 ultra carbon. Was sceptical on putting anything on the chin on a nice helmet as it. But really happy thats its so slim.
Thanks Shaun, all the best for 2021, we can live in hope that we will be unlocked to ride before Spring time, GoPros are very fickle things but the video footage is superb, audio is also v. good when it works, just ditched my mic.Power De Wise for a new mic, SubZero SZM-L100B, £12, it is a powered mic but does not work on Power mic settings, memo to supplier, don't know if powered mic would help if it did work, not had chance to road test but quality of audio (garden test), is promising, mic set to Std, a small detail which is handy, the lead is not over long so no worries with hiding excess away, take it steady and look forward as always to more ride video and hi jinks with Andy, stay safe.
Thanks great detailed fit , look at you new skid lid & a new satnav Santa was good to you this year 🤣. Are you moving the XT to on top of your clocks ? And a video on your install please ,Happy New Year mate 👍
you could actually bin the mic adapter off and record your audio straight to a pocket audio recorder in your jacket therebye reducing clutter on the helmet if you wanted to. to sync the audio and the video all you need to do is right click (i think in davinci) and select "sync using audio" then it will do it for you. you will need to make an audio marker at the start of the recording by clapping your hands loudly two or three times. you can then see the claps in wave form in your editor and match them by hand if needed. brilliant vid i do like that hjc helmet ive got the i70 one. not as cool as that one though...
Yes I've used an external recorder many times, give great voice audio but doesn't pick up the bike very well. The mic adaptor will pick up more from the bike, unfortunately a bit more wind noise. Its difficult to find the best balance, you can use both and combined them, but it's a lot more of a faff while out recording.
I have seen there is a casing for the new hero 10with 3.5 adapter seems tidier. Is there a way to split the cardo mic and have one mic as opposed to two separate mics?
I'm really liking it Alan! Quality is on par with the shoei, it's just as quiet and doesn't come with the high price tag. I would rate it above the shoei, the HJC is lighter and has a fantastic quick release visor mechanism.
Nice setup and a nice helmet. I prefer the HJC RPHA 11 Pro's. Wonder how that custom mount compares to the RideTechMoto custom mounts? Also, been considering adding a Zoom F2 to my helmet for better audio.
great video, what happens when it rains,do you disconnect the mic adapter from the gopro?also is it ok to leave the mic adapter attached to helmet when it rains.....thanks
It's okay to leave it all attached in the rain, I mould a small amount of silicone putty around the connections, that way it stays dry and I can still record in the rain👍
Helmet looks great. I’m still using my HJC RPHA 10 which is great apart the lack of earbud support. I did manage to fit my Sena unit and it’s earpads but they do tend to hurt a bit when used for more than a few hours. A shame really as the helmet is still looking brand new after 3 years, but I think I’ll be going for the new RPHA 11 as it now supports intercoms better. The 11 doesn’t have the extra sun visor, which is great for me as I wear glasses and found that that extra plastic can get in the way. You mentioned in your video that it is advisable to insert the chin curtain, when I did that I started to get a misty visor but without it it’s all clear. Maybe it was an issue with the 10 and it would be better with the newer 11... we’ll see.
All helmets are different! As a rule more ventilation means more wind noise on your audio. Chin curtain has always worked well for me, although I haven't blogged in the hjc yet.
The FAB site only let's you add to a wish list.unless you are in Singapore. Disappointing. Awesome mount if.you could actually get one. Also, I just got the 10 black and I would love to have the mount if you know of another way to obtain it.
For your voice you need the gopro mic adapter, and install a Lav mic into your helmet. To get the audio from you friends it's a way more complicated. It can be done by connecting a spare comms unit to a sound recording, and adding the comms unit into the mesh. It's possible you can now do it through a sound recorder app on your phone, but either way it's a bit of a pain in the arse.
I have an arai quantum x oriental and am going to get the hero black 10, i’m deathly afraid of a mount harming the beautiful helmet. Did yours strip the paint or did you notice any scratching? Any brands for me to stay away from?
Nice video. Ulanzi do a GP7 case with a slot below it that takes the audio adapter, much tidier than sticking it on the side of your lid. I reckon there's a gap in the market for a sticky pad that fits on the front of modular helmets. The Fab is £40, Motomounts NZ £35 inc shipping, both are excessive for a small piece of plastic. Need to beware cheap chinese plastic which breaks too!
I find the mic levels on the GoPro is set a bit too high and literally picks up every single breath. Are you having this issue, if so, how do you deal with it?

I have but its massive! The camera is also bigger than the previous 7 and 8, and then with the mod its monstrous! Plus the media mod isn't waterproof either🤷♂️
Hello thanks for the video, I would like to know your advice, I setup my gopro black 8 under my motorcycle mirror, on my bike I do have 12 volts sockets with USB adapter Do you think I can feed my camera with that power adapter and charging with cable USB to usb-C , in other words can I use the 12 volts with USB adapter as power bank Thanks and keep posting your informative videos
Good vid as always. I eventually done away with the mic adapter and bought the media mod case for the Gopro 8. Although i know it isn't waterproof. The mic plugs straight into the case. I used to use bluetack to waterproof the ports and like you said can get a little messy but now with the media case don't have too. Not sure if you've heard of or tried a company called Purple panda for mic's. They're very good and not too expensive. They offer a lifetime guarantee if it fails.
Yeah I've heard good things about Purple Pand, maybe have to try one! Personally I'd leave to media mod, yes makes it a bit easier. I ride all year round in all weathers, and I don't want to be worrying if the camera is getting wet, with this setup I just hit record and ride.
Mainly because the hero 9 is a much bigger camera, and then mounted in the media its huge! Don't really fancy mounting such a massive brick, plus the media mod isn't waterproof either🤦♂️

Loving the videos keep living the dream while the rest of us are locked down. The thuringerwald and harz videos are great. Keeping me hopeful for my 2 week germany + austria trip in may/June (covid dependent). HJC Rpha70.... is the visor as disappointing as people make out? Only reason im torn between this and the xlite 903.
Thanks Monty glad Toure enjoying them! What's the issue with visor? I normally replace a visor every year, depend on condition. The visors from HJC are cheaper than shoei so that's a win for me. My mirrored visor on my red and black shoei scratches very easily, and they cost 100 euros🤦♂️
@@thelikeablerider8800 All the reviews I've read/watched mention how HJC have used their own version of pinlock and 'its not as good as pinclock' No details as to why its not. Considering you're riding through the German winter I imagine you've used their version. Obviously no concerns?
@@thelikeablerider8800 Well if its the green light from you and the missus has already been persuaded I think it'll be purchased in time for the Germany/austria tour. Appreciate it.
Well done, only one more question: how do you provide extended battery life on the camera and what size of mini SD do you use that is big enough to catch a full day of riding/vlogging?
I use a power bank which goes in my inside jacket pocket, and run a cable up to the mic adaptor, as it all has a port for charging. 256gb micro sd will record all day, same with the power bank. Just hit record and enjoy the ride👍😜
I have a Nolan N100-5 and cannot glue the opening latches, so i have to use the Proshot. If one can use it on a modular helmet i think it's usable for all helmets?
No I don't use the My ride App, not seen any real need to. No my Cardo is only connected to my phone and my satnav. If I didn't use a satnav then I probably would use it, but its probably a less of a system then a decent satnav.
@@thelikeablerider8800 And you really need to read what you are accepting if you use the KTM / Husqvarna app. It is almost evil. People do not read the agreement but this one is almost the most terrible one i have ever withnessed. It will read out all your contacts in your phone. Constantly uploading every mutation you phone will undergo. An app from my opinion does not has to upload my contactlist and all the data that belongs to that. Like when someone has called and how long. That app almost sucks you complete phone dry. With the pleasure. So i de-installed it. For people who install the Bluetooth connectivityunit on their bike will almost do that for nothing. Maybe for listening music. And you have to pay for the nav part. Not cool. Another profit model for KTM. And the soundquality is still as if you used a Garmin.
awesome as usual ? [I've got that exact same helmet] any advice on what visor you've got on? tinted/reflective visor that's good during winter not too dark to block out the light but just has a reflective mirror/dark effect so the eyes aren't visible?
I would think they work the same, but I don't like the fact that it makes the camera so big on the helmet, and that you cant waterproof the media mod as easily. Either way is less than ideal, but we make it work!😜
@@thelikeablerider8800 thats a fair point haha, i've just had a constant problem with wind noise even though i have a lav mic in my helmet, away from wind, with a dead cat on it, and yet my audio sounds nothing like others but im almost copying what they do so im just kind of at a standstill haha
I've never used the media mod so couldn't say, but I know other vloggers are using them to good effect. What lav mic are you using? It seems best to go cheap with them! 100 quid Rode lav mics don't work very well!
I believe Skully were making a smart helmet, was basically a crowd funded product. They spent everyone's cash on drugs and sports cars, and it never happen. Shame as it looked very cool!
Still baffles me why GoPro though that mic adapter was a good idea. There can't be many people that use an action camera and want audio who enjoy lugging that thing around. It's the only thing stopping me upgrading my setup.
Yeah it seems to be going that way! Even with all these new media modes, LED lights, extra screens, they seemed to be catering more for the everyday vlogger with hand held stuff!
Just depends on the sensitivity of the mic! Mine will pick it up so have to make a conscious effort not to do it. Only when off the bike tbh, while riding I don't notice it.
Not with a flip up helmet. Having said that I also use the RPHA 90, and still attach the camera on the chin, but use an external audio recorder, to get rid of the gopro mic adapter.
Brilliant video thank you. I am going away this year and would like to take some video footage. Have you done this on a flip up and if so how did you find it / are the results better / worse than a full face (obviously discounting having it in the up position of camera mounted at the front ;o) ?) I have a Shoei Neotec that I will be using.
Thank you, glad you found it useful! I've never been into the flip ups, so have zero experience with vlogging in them. The only issue I could see is with the microphone, but if you're not interested in that then just the camera would work fine. Even if you're not interested in talking on your videos, I still advise people in using them, because they'll still pick up the bike, and general ambient noise. All you get is wind noise on your videos if you use the mic out of the camera.
The cable is a longer than most I've had, so a bit.more challenging to fit, but it's still doable, and cant feel it under the liner. The Audio is pretty good quality!

Great setup Shaun! Can you please tell me how you pair your cardo packtalk bold with KTM my ride, if you have it? I've tried pairing bike to packtalk but its just not picking up the cardo unit, I have the same unit as you, 2019 KTM superduke gt and KTM my ride navigation? Cheers in advance👍
Hi Mark
I dont use My Ride so I've never tried pairing them.
@@thelikeablerider8800 no worries Shaun, got it sorted once I watched your other vid on Packtalk bod setup, thanks for getting back👍
Great vid Shaun... have you thought about the media mod for the hero 9... tidy solution
I have but its massive! The camera is also bigger than the previous 7 and 8, and then with the mod its monstrous! Plus the media mod isn't waterproof either🤷♂️
@@thelikeablerider8800 with my mandarin speaking senna, media mod and gt air 2 i should be fine then lol
Rockin it👍😂
Hello thanks for the video, I would like to know your advice, I setup my gopro black 8 under my motorcycle mirror, on my bike I do have 12 volts sockets with USB adapter
Do you think I can feed my camera with that power adapter and charging with cable USB to usb-C , in other words can I use the 12 volts with USB adapter as power bank
Thanks and keep posting your informative videos
Yes of course! I power my Hero 9 from the bike👍😜
Thanks for the video!
Hey, which adapters did you use to mount the Gopro, and where can I buy them?
It's a custom mount, links to them are on the video description👍😜
Is it safety to trought heavy rain?
It will survive a pretty heavy rain shower!
Just curious, why don't you use the Hero 9 with the Media Mod... I think the audio brick is a terrible design.
Mainly because the hero 9 is a much bigger camera, and then mounted in the media its huge! Don't really fancy mounting such a massive brick, plus the media mod isn't waterproof either🤦♂️
Is the Cardo compatible with the Sena -- can they pair and talk?
Yes of course👍

They're call Mack's silicone ear buds, can't find a link from the US🤦♂️
Or maybe😜

@@thelikeablerider8800 thank you!
@@thelikeablerider8800
All the reviews I've read/watched mention how HJC have used their own version of pinlock and 'its not as good as pinclock'
No details as to why its not.
Considering you're riding through the German winter I imagine you've used their version.
Obviously no concerns?
Just checked for you m8, it comes with an original pinlock, no in house brand👍😜
@@thelikeablerider8800
Well if its the green light from you and the missus has already been persuaded I think it'll be purchased in time for the Germany/austria tour. Appreciate it.
I've only been out with it twice, but Its a positive start! It's just as quiet as my shoei's, quality is Premium, and its even a tad lighter🤷♂️👍
What about the Proshot mount?
I couldn't comment, I've never used one! Aren't they designed to cater more for adventure style helmets?
I have a Nolan N100-5 and cannot glue the opening latches, so i have to use the Proshot. If one can use it on a modular helmet i think it's usable for all helmets?
Great setup! Can you tell us please how much the custom mount cost ?
Think it was around 40 euros
Great video and very informative and helpful.
Bluetax?
Do you use ktm my ride app and is your packtalk connected to the bike like Dam the Dane or your phone?
No I don't use the My ride App, not seen any real need to. No my Cardo is only connected to my phone and my satnav. If I didn't use a satnav then I probably would use it, but its probably a less of a system then a decent satnav.
@@thelikeablerider8800 ok cheers, do you any of Dam’s vids he seems like a good lad
Unfortunately not no
@@thelikeablerider8800
And you really need to read what you are accepting if you use the KTM / Husqvarna app.
Awesome bud. Thank you
You're welcome m8👍😜
@@thelikeablerider8800 do you have any suggestions on gropro. I'm thinking of buying one but not sure which one to get
awesome as usual ? [I've got that exact same helmet] any advice on what visor you've got on? tinted/reflective visor that's good during winter not too dark to block out the light but just has a reflective mirror/dark effect so the eyes aren't visible?
Tbh for the winter I'll probably put the clear one back on, and use the sun visor, then for summer the full dark one👍
Mounted my Gopro on the chin area, but the video is not good due to the camera bouncing around so much with the helmet that the video is not stable.
i've been using the media mod on my hero 8 instead of using the 3.5mm adapter, would you say the adapter works better than the mod??
@@thelikeablerider8800 currently i'm using a purple panda, ive heard nothing but good things about them and theyre literally 20$ canadian
I’ve gone with Sugru and the Hero 9 and Media Mod. That GoPro Mic Adapter is a joke.
Nice lid, mate.
Is there any helmet with built in camera and intercom I can buy at all
sena 10c EVO
I believe Skully were making a smart helmet, was basically a crowd funded product. They spent everyone's cash on drugs and sports cars, and it never happen. Shame as it looked very cool!
I did the same to my helmet after watching your video thanks for tip mate..
Glad it helped you Darren👍
Yeah its a perfect set up. Keep up the great work mate loving your content its so funny when you and Andy get together lol..
Any tips to cut down breathing noise, loud/heavy breathing?
Just depends on the sensitivity of the mic! Mine will pick it up so have to make a conscious effort not to do it. Only when off the bike tbh, while riding I don't notice it.
Would this work on Sy max HJC ?
Not with a flip up helmet. Having said that I also use the RPHA 90, and still attach the camera on the chin, but use an external audio recorder, to get rid of the gopro mic adapter.
How do you pick up the sound from your mates, like AMC?
All that is done in post, Andy sends me all his footage and I sync it to mine, and wallah!😜

My first, but a very positive start and they do some great graphics!
Brilliant video thank you. I am going away this year and would like to take some video footage.
Have you done this on a flip up and if so how did you find it / are the results better / worse than a full face (obviously discounting having it in the up position of camera mounted at the front ;o) ?)
I have a Shoei Neotec that I will be using.
Wow thanks for sharing😊🙏❤️
My dream helmet HJC😍❤️
Watching from Philippines
You're welcome! Glad you liked it✌😜
Where did you get your mic from please?
The make is Comica and I got it on Amazon.

Interesting. So you just record directly into your GoPro rather than record audio to a separate audio recorder.
Yes 90% of the time I have a Lav Mic plugged into the Gopro. I do sometimes use a separate audio recorder if I want to pick up more exhaust tones.
