    If under 10 minutes into a conversation Destiny decides to stop playing whatever game he's playing and focus on the convo, you know it's probably going to be a good one. Boghossian is amazing.

    This is the type of content I've been wanting. I wish there was more of it. I could've listened for another 12 hours. I feel like the topics and themes that were briefly touched on here, if they can take root and spread into the greater sphere of political/social discourse, can act as a vaccine for the diseased and rotted landscape it has become. Even though that seems like an insurmountable task like a guy pulling weeds individually in a hundred million acre forest while knowing the environment hosts the specific conditions for those weeds to just keep regrowing, mirroring back how Peter described what types of engagement gets promoted or rewarded on twitter. Albeit the worst (arguably tumblr) and largest space for it, it's not the only place where it's prevalent. It's just the place where people are more likely to voice an opposing view and then be seen by the most eyes. Reddit is just as bad, but like youtube, that's also a space where you only find yourself at any given place and point because you have to make the choice to be there versus it being easier to be subjected to (lacking the word I'm looking for) a wider spanning ecosystem like twitter. Dumb analogy but imagine urine was food coloring and the ocean was crystal clear. It's like spotting and pointing out pool pissers versus ocean pissers.

    I absolutely loved this conversation - truly, one of my favorites out of all the streams/videos. I'm excited to see more conversations with the two of you (and possibly some of the people that he recommended). I also hope he'll have discussions/guests like this, more often. Their genuine chemistry together, intrigue, collaboration, and excitement was fantastic. It allowed the entire conversation to flow, mesh and meld together in ways that are often difficult to achieve in this arena; much less, so organically. There is immense value and benefit in these discussions being accessible for the average person to participate in. Especially when it's coming from a set of people who are solely interested in engaging in good faith and honesty, with vulnerability, sincerity, genuinely interested in each other/the others point of view, continuously remaining respectful, and able to feed off each other throughout every facet of the discussion.
    I normally listen to the streams and videos in the background, but I ended up stopping what I was doing so that I could be fully focused on this one.

    • @clashwithkeen
      @clashwithkeen ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I know this type of content probably doesn't have the virality incentive as his other engagements but I have to think that a large segment of his core viewership (personal anecdotal observation) is/has been thirsting for it and I hope he does more content along these lines in the future. If anything it's a good tool for positive PR for his image when he engages in conversations on these themes of honest and insightful topics behind fruitful debate/discourse and the efficacity of the means and methods to achieve it.

    There is a problem regarding that methodology(Attitude towards the truth section). Just because you are willing to get asked the same question that you ask somebody else, doesn't mean that a said question is an equivalent proposition. You can literally be fine with getting asked the same questions that you ask somebody else, and find it easy to answer your own questions because A- your belief goes along with popular opinion, therefore your answers to your intended questions will be much appreciated by the majority(doesn't mean that it is True) or B- Your question can be hard for somebody else to answer but easy for you to answer because it relates to a religion that you don't believe in(Example: Man A is a Christian and Man B is a Muslim...Man A asks man B if he believes in the Islamic narrative. Man A will then be asked the same question, where the answer will be easily answered as a big "No" because you bring up such an easy question for you to answer, but more difficult for the person that you've initially asked. This will also be due to culture and what different people are sensitive to. Naturally, Islam is not something that is commonly practiced by the western world, therefor Christianity has a much better standing in western society than Islam is when brought up in debates within western discourse.

    Wow, great advice from Peter. I feel like his advice to ask people what would change their mind and how certain they are from 1 to 10 on an issue was stellar, definitely going to be using that.
    I would like to see a debate review by Peter on one of Destiny's debates, kinda like how Booksmarts used to do.

    It's so strange and like amazing to see two people with really experienced developed and mature debate skills - not just debate but also talking skills - and both are not appeasing to any extremes of right or left. They want to search for true and good things. That is fucking difficult. It's difficult because you not longer appease to a group of people. And those groups from all sides will attack you mercilessly with their brain dead ad homs.
    This is refreshing for fucking normal people like me who isn't treating politics like a religion.
