Had a little chuckle to myself whilst Paul was raving about the quality of Japanese food I was tucking into a chippy tea of battered sausage and chips washed down with a bottle of Sarsaparilla 😎
I love your work. Japanese airlines in general are a step above the rest .... I really do remember best my flights on airlines ANA and Japan Airlines ... They are just so differently better .... Its hard to explain. I think it is all in the "attitude" ..... Theirs is one of pride in the job
I was lucky enough to fly on this product back in 2022 from HND to LHR and boy was it a fantastic experience. Great crews, phenomenal seat and delicious food. Fun fact I actually booked my ticket for just 100K Avios + £340 which included not only this First Class flight on JAL but also a business class ticket with them from LAX to Tokyo HND as well as American Airlines economy from TLV to MIA to DEN (in other words I booked a BA Multi Carrier Award)
I've done this seat twice now (ORD-HND, HND-DFW) and despite it's age it is still fantastic. Super comfortable and incredible service. Great video Paul!
That was a cracking price even with using Avios. I intend to fly JAL from LHR to HND in business class at some point in the future over BA and as a you showed Paul, the service on board is excellent 👍
I do like JAL F, I've enjoyed four longhaul F flights already this year! Kokuto de Lequio: they do a fantastic Espresso Martini with it in the Salon section of the JAL F lounge in Haneda. Other highlights in all JAL lounges is the Japanese curry, and, in F lounges at NRT and HND, the on demand sushi. FWIW, the firm/soft option on the mattress is merely which way up it goes. One side's hard, and the other's soft. The onboard loo... don't be shy is all I'll say, Japanese loos are life changing! My only caveat is that you should make sure you're aware of where the stop button is before activating (it's not clear once you're sat down), although there is a timeout after a couple of minutes... don't ask me how I know this!!!
Good morning Paul. Great video, I would love to see you do a video in Business class on Japan Airlines Sydney to Japan or reverse. I've flown Business class on Singapore Airlines Sydney to Singapore and return recently and was most impressed by the service on the A380.
Each state regulates how much and how taxes are applied after the US tax. You will find low taxes on alcohol in states that produce it. Texas is not one of them and taxes commodities and housing heavily because they do not have income taxes.
16:00 Thanks to Emirates' A380 (and A380 in general) everyone compares Boeing's aircraft bathrooms and seats to Airbus and EVERYONE COMES UP LACKING. Emirates bathrooms are AMAZING in First Class. Their lounge in Dubai is fantastic. Hoping my ANA lounge experience will be just as good - or better.
What an EXCELLENT video Paul! I hope to fly JAL 🇯🇵 someday in their legendary B777 First Class someday if I can afford it! 😂 Cheers 🥂 mate! -Caleb’s Aviation 😊 Also I remember the last time you flew a Japanese carrier (ANA) and tried sake then and we know how that went! 🤪 🍶
I’m flying to NRT next week for business. Ever since Toyota moved their USA HQ to Plano (North suburb of Dallas), DFW has at least 3-4 non-stop flights to HND and NRT (all thanks to AA and JAL).
Brilliant video (as always) Paul - and looked like a fantastic experience. Was quite surprised you weren't escorted to your seat in First Class though - would have thought that would be a given for JAL! One on my bucket list as well.
First class flights, you can end up getting stuffed or drunk with so many complimentary drinks and my question is the following: doesn't alcohol at high altitudes make you more drunk? Then I think that if you can choose complimentary non-alcoholic drinks, well, if I were to take a 12-hour plane trip I would go in First Class since I'm 1.92 cm tall and I think that I wouldn't be able to fit in economy class because of my legs. Finally, I love your videos, they are very entertaining and educational at the same time for people who don't travel much by plane.
True! The effects and often unwanted consequences of alcohol consumption at altitudes have a higher impact on your body and overall health as well. Alcohol at altitude is 20% stronger than on the ground so if your BAC is 0.07 on the ground in the air it’ll be 0.014
Now you need to do it again on their A350-1000. They started flying DFW-HND on April 17th. I was lucky to fly the new business class product on the A350 last week and it was incredible. Can't imagine what the new 1st class product is like after watching this video.
And the opposite is true for you, you need to do try their old 777-300ER’s apex suite, the old business class have a much wider (65cm) bed than their new business class (56cm, according to JAL’s own website), I tried it also on the JFK-HND route 2 years ago and it almost feel like sleeping in my own bed at home because you can actually flip around however you want, the privacy in the window seat is also unparalleled, you literally CANNOT see anyone unless you open the partition up, you truly have a little cabin to yourself.
Japan Airlines is noted for having one of “the best” International /Western cuisines in the sky in First Class. That’s a godsend for because I don’t consume any seafood whatsoever which Japanese cuisine is heavy in. 🧐
when you put your slippers on was you drunk as i am pretty sure they look like there on the wrong feet, but i found the crew so friendly and simply amazing on the few flights i have taken with JAL
Wow. Looks like a great flight Mr. Lucas. I cannot imagine eating that much on a flight. I am not as adventurous as you on food either. I saw an ala carte menu, which is probably best for me. I could try something new and not overstuff myself. Thank you for the great video. Safe travels.....
Great video, Paul, as always. Good to see an airline still providing a full first class product. Also great to show, once again, you don't necessarily need a fortune to get a first class seat.
I had my flight to Tokyo with BA cancelled earlier this year (Due to a certain incident at Haneda). I was very excited when they re-booked me on to a JAL flight (even though I was in economy). The food, service, seat and legroom were exceptional! Would 100% fly them again.
Really nicely shot and beautifully presented flight review. Would be a good way to go for my first Japan airlines flight. Thanks for the heads up for my trip with them 😃🙌
The quality of the food! The presentation! Hopefully going to Japan for first time April next year! Wonderful video! And, actually, as a once in a lifetime or similar treat, the Avios cost isn't that bad, compared to cash.
I have never flown in 1st class before with JAL but I have flown with them in Economy. As a regular traveler to Japan their Economy is still the best. It’s all the little touches which adds up to a great experience. Better than the big western operators from my experience. It isn’t just a Japanese thing as they better than ANA.
All TH-camrs say "Try the Japanese menu", while I agree it is very good, you are missing out, the western options are also superb, I am happy you tried the Miso Sea Bass, my wife loves it, on our last flight I think she had 3 of them.
I think most people are scared of Japanese food, but once you try it, you really get the taste for it. Especially all the types of fish and/or sushi. Amazing flavours 🍣 🤤
Kokuto de Lequio is really good, and I'd love to find that outside of japan. I had it at a fantastic bar in Hiroshima. Kokuto is actually the name of the type of sugar used. Its from Okinawa, which makes some liquors I really like. They make a pretty great rum (cor cor green label) and great gin (Masahiro).
I've flown ANA in both first and business but never JAL... JAL honestly looks better. I've had great service on ANA in business but the one time I flew first was a little disappointing - didn't get nearly as much attention from the crew as you did on JAL (or even as I did in ANA business). I use my AMEX points to fly on ANA... both ANA and JAL have really low mileage requirements for international awards. They're both a great deal (but JAL isn't an AMEX partner, unfortunately.)
Great video Paul - that's something I'd really love to do. I flew JAL last year in Premium Economy from Haneda to Singapore and thought they were pretty good; obviously your experience was orders of magnitude better. Some day maybe - that redemption was pretty sweet.
Wow! Were you there on Thursday 25 April? I was in the Capital one lounge on that day! I wondered what American's lounge looked like since it was right across.. What a coincidence to see your video today!
I’ve flown both business class & premium economy & all have been excellent. The crew are always wonderful & the food great. My only criticism is the entertainment system is a bit limited & some of the Japanese offerings didn’t have subtitles in English which was a shame.
Great video as always Paul. Really love the way you present your content. This is a great product but unfortunately I watched this video after Paul Stewarts flight on the new JAL A350 first class and whilst the service was still of an excellent standard, the A350, being a newer aircraft, just seems to be a much nicer place to be.
Thanks for this video Paul, I'm now more confused than ever... I'm planning a trip to Japan next year. Your thoughts on ANA or JAL? What route via the US or the UK? Thanks

Paul, make sure you take the A350 first class, it’s even better than this. Or the A350 business class, which is equivalently better than the 777 business class (which is already epic).

See the kits. I personally wouldnt use them then I always have access to my own Bulldog stuff.
That was a DFW to Tokyo flight and not a Dallas to Tokyo flight. Fort Worth is the better half of the DFW Metroplex.
Had a little chuckle to myself whilst Paul was raving about the quality of Japanese food I was tucking into a chippy tea of battered sausage and chips washed down with a bottle of Sarsaparilla 😎
Nothing wrong with that 🤩
I am from the US and everything you just said sounds so wonderfully British!
😂😂😂
Hope to try this service sometime. Thanks for sharing your INCREDIBLE experience, Paul!!
Jeb, I’m surprised you haven’t done this yet! Hopefully you can try the new cabins on the A350 soon 🤩
@@Paul_LucasI hope to one day fly their A350-1000 in First Class on JAL 🇯🇵 😊
I've flown JAL economy four times and each time has been exceptional.
I agree with you regarding genuine kindness and service, that it would identify the great airlines from the others.

I flew first Class JAL a long time ago (1989), DFW to Narita. It was just as spectacular then! Great video!
flying with JAL in 787 Business Class to Narita from FRA next week. so excited :D
You Sir are living my dream. Not just going to Japan but going first class. One day maybe. Absolutely loved this video.
That was a cracking price even with using Avios. I intend to fly JAL from LHR to HND in business class at some point in the future over BA and as a you showed Paul, the service on board is excellent 👍
Thank you for speeding up the takeoff and landing footage. I would always skip through those. I appreciate the tigher editing.
Japan Airlines seems to have a really great product and that’s great that they are fast at boarding a plane!

JAL is one step ahead compared to other airlines, lovely report
They are configured with far fewer seats in order to make a 14 hour flight due to weight.

I hope to fly Zipair to Tokyo in September around my birthday to go international for the very first time.
4:57 is that a mistake? 147 economy seats right?
I guess I am not the only one to catch that one
The foyer seating is to meet with minions who are forbidden entrance.
good to see your in first class, most of the reviewers only go in first and won't go economy, especially the nonstop ones !
Absolutely love the channel

I don't know about business or first, but JAL has the best long haul economy of any airline I've flown in the last decade or two.

Better to have and not need than need and not have.
Also, I miss umeshū.
Can someone please explain why this is regarded as one of the best First Class experiences? The seats look pretty dated to me.
$15k one way for one person? I am chomping at the bit to go back to Japan (I have been there twice), but round trip for me and my wife in first class would put me over $60k for that flight. I could save every single paycheck for the next one and a half years and still not come up with that kind of money.
I think your pic at 4:49 might be slightly mislabeled with the 147 Business Class seats at the back
Was it just me or were those slippers on the wrong way round???
Paul, been missing seeing your posts.
Video's are fantastic, when are you doing another ?
Just within the last week this flight route on Japan Airlines had the pilot forbidden to fly because of too much to drink before the flight! The passengers had to be moved to an American Airlines flight to Japan from Dallas!
Sometimes there are lines at reception
For me, it's probably the best airline in the world pity they don't use the Boeing 747 anymore
