- Traveling to PHNOM PENH, Cambodia for the First Time!
First impressions!? VERY good!!!!
I left LELE behind in Pattaya and conducted much Visa renewal trip for 3 days and 2 nights to the capital of Cambodia, the city of Phnom Penh. I found a cheap hotel to stay at in the Phnom Penh tourist precinct, 500 meters from the RIVERSIDE, for only $16 a night.
I got absolutely RINSED by a Tuk Tux driver, learned my lesson and did my best to pick up some of the essential Khmer words. I struggled to learn the Cambodian Riel (cash) despite its rainbow selection of colors. I'm doing this trip to Phnom Penh on a budget so expect to see low cost everythang! Phnom Penh Night life video coming up NEXT!

@@lordrossmacca only on parts! :)
Fantastic! I lived in PP for 2 years. 242 and st 111. My house is now a restaurant. Enjoy the city night life and sights.
Good video mate - I am looking forward to the rest of the PP videos as I need to do this visa run myself on the 12th.
Did you apply for an E-Visa etc?
A lot has changed since i was in Phnom Penh i was deployed with the army in 92 with UNTAC there was very little infrastructure back then will go back one day nice to see a hug improvement and safety the killing fields looked a lot different back then.
Wow Cambodia looks nice. Love the videos Sam your giving Adam a run for his money for sure!
Wait did you say you wiped out a dong? 😂
Loved the energy of the video man. It looks nice and clean there, I wasn’t expecting that. Also bonus they drive on the correct side of the road! 😂
@@don.brasco haha! Yeah it was great!
Fun video Sam! 👍

Nice one Sam, have a good time in PP 🍻

I should really get in a visit to PP. And I used to know people that went to ivanhoe grammar (im also an eastern suburbs boy in melb). my brother went to vietnam when he was in high school. when i went to highschool, i went to effin halls gap (shyte version of going to the blue mountains), we got the povvo version for sure. gotta do kl next time you do a border run, ill go with ya!
@@Skenners oh heck yeah! Come along!!
Welcome to Cambodia hope you enjoy your time here
Welcome to Cambodia. Tuk Tuk yes. I have heard you can get a beer as low as $$1.00US Correct USDollar is widely accepted. Looks like a great, huge room. Did I see a pool?? Excellent Tuk Tuk ride with the other 2. I am extremely interested in the CheapOO RLD. Excellent Day 1
.75 cent draft beers are pretty common. Try 172 St. in Phnom Penh for beers and inexpensive but tasty food.
50 cents... siem reap and some places in phnom penh
$9 for a 24 tin "slab"
Nice to have YT back to watch Sam's vids... Good work mate 🍻
@@wanderlustasia How was offshore!?
@@GoneAdrift a long 12 weeks, one week to go mate
When you land , go get a SIM card it’s really really cheap and they set it up for you.
Learn some basic phrases and it’s so easy and relaxing
Love PP! Just left there 12 days ago. Spent 39 days this trip, Few days in Prey Veng province. Last year almost 2 months in PP. Might be back in October.
Never met them, but they lived just opposite my balcony in Jomtien for a good while.... Never been to PP but Siam Riep was fun...1st day there walked 3-4km out of town to the north/local entertainment venue area but was too early.. found a convenience store with karaoke playing, bought a ginzberg? beer ... Ended up in a small party at someones home out of town! Very friendly place for travellers! Back to my place in Jomtien in a couple of weeks - sadly only for 10 days or so, but back in Nov for longer!
Good your time in Phnom Penh I love Australia so much❤
Awesome - I’m in Phnom Penh now - lived here for 2.5 years!! I do a channel about moving here to teach
As you know Cambodia can I ask you for some advice. I'm visiting Cambodia for the first time this October & my main concern is the currency. Not sure what currency to get or do I get both currencies.
$10 is from the airport in pp is a standard price . Use pass ap or similar for around outside . Beer is cheap but check the cap or tab as you can win another beer. I’m considering moving there for a year or two as an art teacher
🙏🏻
Hey good video. Can I ask how far is your hotel from the promenade so near famous nightlife streets like 136 & what is the name of your hotel as I was impressed
@@garyclarke9685 prantara heritage.
Yes 5-10 minutes walk :) flat and easy
@@GoneAdrift thanks mate might just book there. Going to Cambodia for the first time too in October
Sam, you can download maps from Google onto your phone directly and then still navigate even if your phone is in airplane mode.
@@Chrisrussow You’re kidding! That’s fantastic! Thanking you!
great vlog!
Have a wonderful day in Cambodia ❤
Thank you!! 🙏🏻
Great to see you there. I’m not quite sure why, but I adore the glorious mess of PP. my darling has a shop in a market in Siem Reap. Let me know if you want to check the market out whenever you get there and I’ll let her know.
Can only do a few visa runs by crossing border on land after 2/3 times you’ll have to take flight somewhere to reset it
Heads up, if you go to southern Cambodia *sihanoukville*, the area is a massive China owned city. The southern islands of Koh rong and koh rong samloen, are very nice! Less people, better looking beaches AND you don't have ppl trying to sell you activities left and right like you do on Thai islands.
Welcome to Cambodia 😊😊😊❤
Check out S-21 mate. Its a school turned in to a torture camp and its not too far from you.The night life there is pretty good too. 😃
Dude, i got nailed in Casablanca. My taxi ride cost 60Dm when it should have cost 10. Heaps of other stuff as well.
So glad you liked phnom penh. $10 for a tuk tuk drive anywhere in the city is a lot. The ones just outside arrivals trap tourists. Just outside there imare the indeoendent tuk tuks. Bargain with them. $2 for a 10 minute journey to $5 for all across the city. :)
I just got back from PP last Thursday ....it was a great time. It will take you 1 or 2 days to get in the zone. stll cheap but girl prices went up a lot ....Maybe sure you Hit Katy Perry Pizza across from Pontoon disco at night ...you can thank me later ....Kuka in Pattaya
Good video bro .. I took $700 Australian out of a ATM and nearly needed a briefcase for it all lol😂
@@Davrosss 🤣🤣🤣 gold!
Great vlog, thanks Sam! So what is the correct price from the airport?

Interesting my cards aren’t working for grab in Cambodia but works in Thailand
This makes me miss my time in Cambodia. I didn't stop by the genocide museum so I'll have to make it there during my next trip. The roads are a mess in some parts of Phnom Penh. I helped push my taxi after the rain turn the roads to a muddy mess. RIP my shoes haha
Tip for those who want to save data or don't have a sim card. You can download the dictionary and map in Google Maps and Google Translate before your trip or at the hotel using Wifi.
2000 reel.. 50 cents.. you could of got the bus out from the airport to the centre
Id recommended just checking out the beautiful views/ temples ect. War side nasty 😢
@@SaltyOlez yeah I thought I’d spare you guys that one.
It was good for me to visit after doing some study on it

Do ppl get ripped off trying to get taxi out of airport? Whats the best way to get to the hotel? Do they speak much english there?
No, airport taxi / tuk tuk is a set price luckily :)
It would be nice if when you returned they gave you the new proposed 60 entry stamp they keep talking about 👍
@@deekthetrucker5885 Did not receive 🤣
First solo trip. Sammy's a big boy now.😂
Most important difference to thailand. The people are much friendlier
Also scammier.

4:33 - you got the “I’m sorry” lesson from the tuk tuk driver but failed to use it on the motorbike boy….priceless 😂
Nobody is watching to hear about Thailand
I understand, but 11,000 of my subscribers are subscribed because they are interested in Thailand.
So there has to be some sort of relevance to them also. It’s a very fickle game
Top tip number 2, get your dollars changed to riel.
Top tip, dont believe anything a tuk tuk driver tells you.
