There's a cute trick to living in Montreal and rarely having to deal with winter. There are many apartment buildings that have direct access to the metro. If you get an apartment in one of those buildings, you can go out all day, frequenting that 'underground city', do all your shopping, eat at any number of restaurants, go to the cinema, whatever, then go back home, without ever so much as wearing a jacket. And if you happen to have a job that is similarly connected to the metro, well...
Yes , and not even Montréal. Métro Longueuil on the other side of the river . thousands of units where one has direct access to the station without having to get out .

I was mad at myself not buying a jacket on Black friday but by the end of the Christmas holidays I'm starting to wonder if I'm gonna get away with not spending 200-300$. Global warming it's completely changing this city
Cloud Tribe - Honestly I was contemplating on buying a decent winter jacket -decided not to as it’s not that cold . Happy I did not spend the $$$ as it’s spring in January. Took my dog walking in flats & no socks .
Twenty years ago we lived in downtown Montreal and experienced the most enchanting winter morning. Overnight there was an Ice Fog which rolled in from the St. Lawrence River and as the sun rose we saw every surface covered in ice crystals. All the sidewalks, roads, lampposts, houses, cars, everything, reflecting the sunlight. It was so beautiful and very rare. Canadians have to endure the cold, but we are compensated by unsurpassed beauty.
Also quite a few buildings are painted very colorful colors. You'll see random houses with a bright red or purple or yellow roof. When it snows the colors pop in such a beautiful way. Definitely colors up all the white if the winter is too long.
I went to Montreal last summer. Weather was extremely warm and I was surprised how people were enjoy sunny and rainy days. Now I understand why. One day, I would like to come back and experience the winter season. Thanks for your video! Made me remember good memories😌💗
Here in Phoenix Arizona (West valley) its 53°F and sunny. It's cold but not cold cold. And the sun has been out for two days now (it's been cloudy for the past week) it's nice. You can smell the fresh mountain air and pine and cactus cuz it's been wet also, very refreshing.
when night falls Wellington street In Verdun is beautiful in the winter. The lights on the tree's, the Christmas music as well as the snow looks like it's right out of a movie! Fav part of Montreal ❤️❤️
I’m from Montreal (and I too live on the Plateau)! 🙌 the best thing about winter is going snowshoeing in the forest in one of our numerous provincial parks!
Wow, very good! I've been to Montréal 3 times, only one in winter, in february 1974!!! I live in Rio de Janeiro, so you can imagine the impact of this freezing landscape, it remains vivid in my mind and I remember all the sensations I've experienced! I miss this amazing city, so kind and beautiful! Merci! Obrigado! Thanks!
I also live in le plateau even though my french is not great. There is something about this area that is so inviting. Parc la fontaine is the most beautiful park I've ever been in, and it's less than a 5 minute walk from where I live. It's big but not too big. It's just the right size for me with plenty of space filled with trees, walking and cycling paths and, of course, people enjoying the space all year round. I've never experienced a park like this in Southern Ontario where I come from. It's magical to me. I wish I'd grown up in this culture which is so unique and different from anglophone Ontario.
Some years ago stayed a month travelling in Canada (from Toronto to Vancouver by train and plane) and appreciated a lot your country. It was the end of the summer but in some parts of the Rocky Mountains it was quite cold, much more than the coldest winter time in Brazil. By the way, about Montréal, the city is unique, I had a wonderful time there. Best regards from São Paulo, Brazil.

I am not a lover of winter, but Sunday morning at about 25-30F, right after a snow has fallen, and you hear church bells/chimes can be a magical time. That $10 mealf quiche, soap and coffee is a good deal - especially if you can get a refill of coffee. Underground Monreal and the Metro are really appreciated in winter. LA Basilique Notre Dame may not be the biggest cathedral in the world but one of the most beautiful. Inside, you feel like you have arrived in heaven, and I am not even Catholic! Mont Royal, and irs ice skating on Beaver Pond, can be a great winter hike - particularly early, before the crowds arrive. Dirty snow/slush is ugly!
[inside the subway station] " ...so you go from being freezing outside to ...like your skin is on fire when you're in the metro...so that's cool too..." LOL

@@lotusgrl444 then you'd love my little tropical island🏖🏝 in winter the least the temperature can drop is around 13° but that's very rare. Anyway have a good day😊
You know... I live in a tropical country. I do think that it is interesting to see cities in harsh winters, with everything covered in snow .... but I just can't shake the feeling that snow just makes everything harder, from clothing to driving to simply walking. And after a few days, everything feels a little depressing and the landscape feels monotous. Of course people/cities are adapted and used to the harsh winters and all the required actions for living through them but I personally can't imagine myself living in a place like this, at least not with a feeling of unease.
well that's true at first. then you get used to it and forget what life is like without 0 pounds of extra clothes. after 2 months then you get frustrated again until it ends. if you do some kind of outdoor winter sport like skiing it makes winter feel 100 times lighter.
Rogerio Andrade what's funny is that I thought the same thing visiting tropical countries. It was amazing to witness the biodiversity, landscapes, culture and food. Alas, I could never live in these places permanently. High heat and humidity, my clothes constantly glued to my body in sweat was aggravating. Overpopulation, poverty and rampant pollution especially in urban areas are unnerving. I would also truly miss 4 distinct seasons. Each one is like a new chapter and makes you love and appreciate the next one. The air, smells, temperature, landscape and lifestyle in a perpetual dance. From swimming, fishing and straight up drinking from a fresh water lake to skiing down the mountain next to it a few months later is magical. Listen, a real winter isn't for everyone. Not everybody is cut out for it. You either embrace it or it'll chew you up and spit you out. Actually come to think of it, the only people that bitch every year about winter are lazy, sedentary, never invested in proper winter gear or think life outside of the city limits is an empty void. The fact is, the city can offer very little in the depths of winter. It can entertain you with the same old shit only for so long. The country is where it's at. Skiing, snowboarding, tobogganing, skating, hockey, snowmobiling, snowshoeing, etc etc. Take your pick and if your lucky, at the end of that glorious day, a snow covered chalet with a fireplace, a Bailey's and a loved one under a blanket! It's either winter or Winter Wonderland, your choice. Cheers.
You are not wrong, winter does make most things harder, especially the day to day grind. However, the magic that is winter takes a little time to appreciate. The sound of a heavy snowfall. All noises are dampened, you can hear the flakes hitting each other, it gives all lights a halo. A crisp really cold day is the opposite, sound travels further, the brightness of the day is amplified by the snow, the sky is a deep blue, and ice crystals form in the air so the sky sparkles and at night you notice things, like trees cracking from the cold, or eeriest of all, a frozen lake BOOOMING. And, there is nothing like the feeling of entering somewhere warm and comforting when coming in from the cold. It isn't for everyone, but it has its own magical qualities!

Cute video, Montreal is my home. Hey, wear a scarf, and appropriate glove-mitts that allow you to uncover your finger tips so you can film. And even at -20, if the sun is out, the day is super awesome. Maybe consider a visit to Mont Saint-Sauveur. Enjoy! Happy new year!
Such a cool video! :) Happy New Year! :D I'm located in Ahuntic, right beside the Prairies river. I see this is still a fresh video (today's Saturday, January 11th. 2020) and it's been rainy, thus all that beautiful snow you filmed last month is slowly melting. Brace yourself for the coldest days of the season coming ahead!
Omg I live in Winnipeg and it snowed so much last week.. I have 4 things on my bucket list and one of them is moving out of Winnipeg and moving somewhere it doesn't snow lol..
We are moving to Montreal and were debating about another trip before moving and experiencing the winter and looking at the rentals I’ve picked out. Maybe hoping to luck out on a place in the plateau. The plateau is fantastic. Notre dame de bon secours is amazing. More people need to go there. They need more funding to continue the archeological dig under the church.
Welcome to my neighborhood! I could recognize the park La Fontaine, where I'm living 2 blocks away. Also the metro Laurier, the one I'm taking when I use the metro (I'm lucky, I can get to work only by the bus without having to commute). And you end at Place d'armes, where I used to work in the Aldred building for 4 years next to the Notre Dame cathedral (I could see it every day and during my breaks because I was literally taking my breaks at the Place d'armes... but I never visited it!). There's a nice coffee near this place called Tommy, I highly recommend!
I reallt enjoyed your videos about Brazil, especially because I am from Minas Gerais. And now you make a video of my favorite city in the world: Montreal
fun fact: the metro isn't heated at all. the heat comes from the trains and body heat only
Are you for real ? Every morning I'm like "F this it's so hot in here, why do they heat it up so much?" 😂

This is a very interesting video about Montreal and the way you live in there. Keep doing this way! Cheers from Foz do Iguaçu
Love the underground mall and the stores on Rue St. Cathrine.
Thanks for the video
I miss Montreal
Greetings from Toronto👋☺️ wished I lived there in winter not so much 😁
Don't let winter stop you. Winter is awesome! I love seasons! Winter is a great moment indeed of shooting as well, only batteries die so quickly.
I'm italian and it's very hot here ,we don't usually get very cold winters in the south of italy. I love winter😍
I"m from Vancouver Canada. My grandfather immigrated here when he was 6 and stopped at Halifax and Montreal. I want to definitely visit the city 30 miles from Rome he was born at
👍
Cute video, Montreal is my home. Hey, wear a scarf, and appropriate glove-mitts that allow you to uncover your finger tips so you can film. And even at -20, if the sun is out, the day is super awesome. Maybe consider a visit to Mont Saint-Sauveur. Enjoy! Happy new year!
- Omg!!! So cool, you should have a meet and greet in February. I'm visiting Montreal
Dannn you are FAB! Love your videos:)
I love winter in Montréal
they don't heat the metro stations. All heat is from friction of wheels on tracks
Such a cool video! :)
Happy New Year! :D
I'm located in Ahuntic, right beside the Prairies river.
Great video Dan! Great video shots, now I want to visit ASAP lol
Very cool! Ur meal looks delicious! Good tips for Winter in Montreal.
You live on the Plateau, nice! I live in the Village!
Cheers from Montreal!!
Cheers bro 💪
The New Travel Come do a video at the redpath museum one day, I’ll give you a tour! I’m a grad student there
