Arrived here in Winnipeg 52 years ago from the Philippines, one of the friendliest city in Canada, my second home now, raised my two kids n three grandkids, living my best life ever, thank you Canada!!!
Born and raised in Winnipeg. Left for a few years, but came back to start a family. Best choice we made. Thank you for all of the great words and shining a light on Winnipeg!
Winnipeg is a secret gem. Commit fully to the right winter clothing, never stop respecting the possibility of ice, and don't park under the street trees in early summer, and yer golden!
We moved from Bristol to Winnipeg 4 years ago. We have a nicer house in a more pleasant area than we could ever have afforded in Bristol. Winters are much colder of course, but also much sunnier, which lifts the spirits compared with damp, grey British winters. Summers here are both warmer and sunnier. People from other parts of Canada can be as rude as they like about Winnipeg. Hopefully when they do, that will keep the house prices here relatively affordable so our daughter will be able to afford to buy a place here one day.
if its warmer there in the summer, then why did i get snowed out of a job in june, a few years ago. plus the locals told me sumetime it does in august too... i was mind blown to find out it actually snows 11 months of the year in canada, i always thought it was just uneduacated americans that said that, like the living in igloos? when was the last time Bristol saw 6" of snow in the summer?

Living in Winnipeg as well, it is incredibly refreshing to see videos like this from a different perspective. It's all the shit that we get that actually makes me want to move until I realise there aren't many places that are actually as affordable as Winnipeg. Makes you feel kind of stuck. But meeting people like you makes it a great place to live. Same as you, it is a great place to live that is affordable enough that you can still travel, and I do lots of travel. My friends in Vancouver, Ottawa, Toronto and Calgary barely ever travel because they cannot afford it. It's always me travelling to see them.
Hundreds of businesses shutting down in the past year, 7/11's shutting down because of insane rates of theft and robbery (so much for being the slurpee capital) and ravaging homeless who leave the streets a complete trash bin with clothes, garbage, food, amongst other things all over the road... So much for helping the homeless when they throw it on the sidewalk. I wouldn't be thanking anyone for visiting Winnipeg, I'd be asking what went wrong for that individual to think, of all places in Canada, that Winnipeg was the destination. I'm a Winnipegger myself, I love my home, home is Winnipeg, but if I was given the chance to move anywhere in Canada, it would never be Winnipeg.
@@u_ly_rae1600 Seems you'd rather make an attempt at insulting me rather than accepting the blatant truth of the economic and criminal situation in Winnipeg. @@sameold5050 "Winnipeg is a dump"? It depends on where you are. Main Street is well known for it's SRO (single room occupancy) hotels and low quality drinking establishments. Recently there have been more druggies downtown because of fentanyl. Facts are facts. But if you get away from downtown and look at where most Winnipeggers actually live, you'll see The 'Peg is a beautiful place: One great city. For one thing, people can actually afford their own houses. That means most places are owned by their occupants, not by a landlord and not controlled by a 'strata' committee or HOA. People are free to decorate their places any way they like. Go on StreetView and have a look at neighbourhoods like Woolseley where people have turned their entire front yards into flower gardens. You can't do that in Vancouver or Calgary! Then have a look at all the beautiful shade trees lining every street. Pulitzer Prize winner and dual American-Canadian citizen Carol Shields described them as reaching across in a loving embrace. It makes Calgary look denuded in comparison.
Aw man you make us look so good! These are really similar reasons to why we moved here from a couple provinces over - affordability, lots of hidden beauty and culture, and amazing people! Welcome welcome welcome!!
Welcome! I have lived here my whole life minus some stints in Alberta. I always come back and will be staying here. Small town feel with bigger city vibes. Affordable and great community. Wouldn’t live anywhere else.

Hey Karl, glad you moved to Canada. As a former Londoner who made the Canadian leap and call Ottawa home, I hope our paths cross to share some stories over a drink or two!
Nice to see someone who has his priorities straight. I used to tell my daughters if a man wouldn’t crawl over broken glass to get to you forget him. Moving from London to Winnipeg also qualifies.
I loved hearing your story of love and community. I think I’m jaded seeing all the people moving to the “hot” spots but listening to your story puts the priority on your partner and the sense of community you can find in this off the beaten trail cities, along with the quality of life.
Winnipeg and Manitoba are truly hidden gems of Canada. Yes we have our flaws like all places do but you just go with the flow. I’m so glad you are loving life here. Welcome to Canada and Welcome to Winnipeg. Thank you for this video
I moved to Winnipeg, Manitoba, when I was 33, some 30 years ago. Every year I love it more. It is the gateway to the incredible wilderness that constitutes much of the province. I have been to other cities and provinces and I'm always glad to get back here. Also: learned how to ski and skate as well as kayak, and now own a property with 4 acres. Winnipeg has been good to me, it's great to see someone else with the same perspective!!!!!!
That was my friend Shyanne in your folklarama clip! Think shes dancing with the Mexican Pavilion these days. So many great festivals. Winnipeg is big enough to have pretty much every type of activity (Latin Dance, Paintball, motorcycle clubs) but small enough that within those communities you really end up knowing everyone in those communities; which is so nice. But yeah, working in construction outside in the Winter here is terrible.
I have lived on the west coast, central america and I am back where I was born and raised, Winnipeg 🎉. You can live comfortably and still have money left to do things! Folklorama and the festivals are great. It's a decently big little town feel.
@@goodone5590This is what I foresee for Winnipeg. American analysts have been touting Duluth as a place where climate refugees might settle, Winnipeg is likely to be such a place as well.
I was shocked when I seen the title moved to Winnipeg, you never see that! I use to dance for Folklorama, my parents also had a cottage at the lake, loved going to Grand Beach and Winnipeg Beach on the Hot Summer days!

Great video. Lake country is a big part of living in Manitoba for sure! And awesome summers! I was on a project there 20 years ago travelling every week with others from Toronto, Vancouver, LA, and Texas, and we’d eat out at all the great Winnipeg spots (529 being one of the favourites)…they were all so amazed at not only the quality of food, but the diversity of restaurants (a Korean spot was also a favourite). And yes, because we were right downtown, we did experience -40 at portage and main. But it reality it’s such a short period of time that happens and doesn’t take away from how great Winnipeg can be. Thanks for sharing!
I spent 6 years in Winnipeg for work and really enjoyed it. Made many great friends and the culture scene (food, arts, sports) was amazing. The mild but grey winters here on Vancouver Island are a stark contrast to the cold but sunny days in "Winterpeg". You are so right when you said people make the place. It's also the effort you make in connecting to the community and discovering the hidden (and not so hidden) gems that will make or break your time there.
I lived in Winnipeg from 1992 to 1994. I loved it there. I have lived in a lot of different places. I am now in Mississippi. Every place has its advantages and disadvantages.
Finally! Winnipeg deserves its flowers, and I'm glad there are more people feeling the true love and spirit of Winnipeg. Thank you for the love letter to our capital city. As a Calgarian watching you, I did not expect to see this turn of events. Congratulations on the move!
thanks :)
Consider yourself fortunate, Calgary is not only the best place to live in Canada & all of the world actually.
Winnipeg is a dump.
I dont like Calgary, @sameold5050
@@edytauzialko459
What isn't there to like about Calgary?
It's obviously a much better place to live than Winnipeg.
@@sameold5050 mostly highways in Calgary
I’m from the UK and have lived in a small city about two hours from Winnipeg for 24 years. I hope you are really happy in Winnipeg.
LOVE Winnipeg! Was so sad when we had to leave. Miss it very much. It’s so underrated.
First time viewer and the professionalism of the whole package is outstanding
Agreed!
I'm not from Winnipeg, but my parents lived there for many years. Underrated city and some of the best food I've ever had.
I’m in the same boat I’m from London, I have lived in Australia, and we just moved to Winnipeg after 7 years in Vancouver. We love it here!
From a fellow Winnipeger - THANK YOU!!! 🙏 💙
@@collinplays1823 lol okay Kar… oops I mean Collin.
@@u_ly_rae1600 Seems you'd rather make an attempt at insulting me rather than accepting the blatant truth of the economic and criminal situation in Winnipeg.
Maybe this is why its so bad, folks like yourself disregard it and resort to petty insults when put on the spot on the real issues that face Winnipeg.
I'm from Winnipeg, but I've lived in Toronto for 30 years. I decided 18 months ago to move back to Winnipeg. I'm so ready to go back.🙂
I just moved back from the GTA as well. Best decision ever. We settled in Richer just outside of the City.
@allspirited22 That's great! How was the move? If you can recommend a great mover, I'd appreciate it.😀
I just left Toronto after 18 years and moved to Thunder Bay a week ago! My husband and I rented a U-haul and drove, we also hired movers on TaskRabbit to do the heavy lifting from our apartment to the U-Haul.
Most prairie people return when they come to their older senses.
@@billfarley9167 I think you could be right. 😄
Hey Karl, I personally felt the need to comment on this video 😭 even though this wasn’t your usual travel documentaries style of content, your sense of storytelling which is something I’ve always admired you for still shines through so well. I was locked in for the entire 12 minutes. keep doing what you’re doing and I’m so excited to follow along on your life adventures (and stability era)
i'm a former Vancouverite finding temporary refuge in Nova Scotia (where I grew up), and contemplating Winnipeg. this was really helpful, so really, thank you.
Winnipeg is a dump.
Yes. Winnipeg has some brutally cold winters. But I’ve never met friendlier people in other places. Winnipeg may have some negatives but it sure has some awesome things too. Welcome. Welcome. GREAT VIDEO
Hey Karl, glad you moved to Canada. As a former Londoner who made the Canadian leap and call Ottawa home, I hope our paths cross to share some stories over a drink or two!
Welcome to Winnipeg!!
-A fellow Winnipegger
Welcome to Canada buddy. There’s a lot of things to do here anyways welcome. 11:34
Nice to see someone who has his priorities straight. I used to tell my daughters if a man wouldn’t crawl over broken glass to get to you forget him. Moving from London to Winnipeg also qualifies.
As someone who did the same thing a few years back: Welcome! 🌧️☔🇬🇧➡️🇨🇦☀️❄️
I loved hearing your story of love and community. I think I’m jaded seeing all the people moving to the “hot” spots but listening to your story puts the priority on your partner and the sense of community you can find in this off the beaten trail cities, along with the quality of life.
Love visiting Winnipeg. My sister lives in Manitoba. She was uncertain before moving, but loves living there.
Winnipeg… a great city… with access to awesome parks, beaches amd wilderness !!
I have lived on the west coast, central america and I am back where I was born and raised, Winnipeg 🎉. You can live comfortably and still have money left to do things! Folklorama and the festivals are great. It's a decently big little town feel.
Winnipeg is a future city as climate warms the winters will ease , attracting millions
@@goodone5590This is what I foresee for Winnipeg. American analysts have been touting Duluth as a place where climate refugees might settle, Winnipeg is likely to be such a place as well.
Proud Winnipegger here 🇨🇦!!
TRUE NORTH! GO JEts GO! 🏒
I moved from São Paulo to Winnipeg 7 years ago and don’t regret a bit. Love this city and its people.
This is such an interesting, funny and heartwarming video. I really captures your talents as a film maker and story teller. I just love it. Well done.
I was shocked when I seen the title moved to Winnipeg, you never see that!
I use to dance for Folklorama, my parents also had a cottage at the lake, loved going to Grand Beach and Winnipeg Beach on the Hot Summer days!
My dear dad was born in Winnipeg, but I've never visited. So glad you love it. I'm fiercely proud to be Canadian. Looking forward to more videos about us ! ❤️🇨🇦
Thank you for this. As a native Manitoban, that lives just outside of Winnipeg (I work in Winnipeg) I always have to defend my city.
This was beautiful to watch! I'm a hop, skip and jump away in Ontario but I've lived, gone to university, met my husband and had my children in Winnipeg... there's a lot to appreciate 🥰
As a now-Winnipeger 16mm hoarding TH-camr, thank you for letting us know we're not alone in our love for our Winnipeg 🫡!!!
Hey Karl, welcome to Winnipeg. We are in a pretty great city, it’s indisputable - but those trips to London, which I’ve been fortunate enough to enjoy a few times, are truly to the best city on earth, you’re lucky to be able to get back there regularly!
So happy for you both!! Congratulations, Winnipeg looks like so much fun! Pls do a local guide I would love to visit, looks beautiful!!
Lovely film Karl. I am Canadian and I must say I love the UK 🇬🇧 and London as well. It is my dream destination. I love my home and I’m glad you like Winnipeg. 🇨🇦
Agree with you Karl! Born and raised in BUENOS AIRES... and absolutely in love with Winnipeg! All you say is ABSOLUTELY right!!!!!
Welcome home to Winnipeg. Creativity and the arts is important here and so is family.
Welcome to Peg city Karl! Love how you captured the best of Winnipeg. It's really a great place overall to raise a family and have some adventures. Close to many beaches, trails, and more... There is so much to discover in this province. Happy exploring!
Thanks :)
I moved from Nottingham to Winnipeg and I love it! 🌹
Thank you for this. I enjoyed watching my hometown be portrayed in a positive light in a professional style. Subscribed and i look forward to watching more.
Welcome to Manitoba! We too ❤ our Winterpeg. We look forward to watching you experience all of the great things our wonderful province has to offer!
Yay!! Welcome home, Karl! A GREAT addition to the family!
Cheers Matt 😊
Lived there for three years. I love the Peg!
I found this format of a city I know nothing about being presented to me really interesting. Good video Karl
When you said in your last video that Winnipeg was your new hometown, I just knew that you’d moved for Love! ❤️❤
Welcome to Canada!! 🇨🇦
Thanks 😊
Redhill lost a legend, but Winnipeg gained a legend!!
Make sure to check out the food around the province if you get the chance. Living where it's so painfully cold, you have access to some of the most delicious and hearty food ever! Get out and support local, folks! 🖤🖤🖤
Made me so proud to see this! Husband and I emigrated back in '89 as a young married couple from Hertfordshire. Love this place, and such a beautiful country. So honoured and a great privilege to live here ❤
Canada is beautiful from coast to coast. It's gorgeous in winter, spring, summer and autumn, whether you're in a city, village, or small town. Welcome to this lovely country of mine 🤘🇨🇦💙
You are a great story teller. I loved learning about Winnipeg. This is my first real education about it I am ashamed to say. I have always loved Canada but never moved there. Wish I had. Blessings to you in you new life in Winnipeg and to you are your wife. Peace
Born and raised winnipegger here....who nows lives on the west coast...take in all the festivals you can....I really miss them....
It’s refreshing to hear a positive take on Winnipeg. Those of us who live here have numerous positive reasons why we stay. I’ve always felt like it’s a bit of a hidden gem. Thanks for sharing your story.
I'm from Belleville in southeastern Ontario, but I've visited Winnipeg a number of times, and it is a nice place. And with its location where the Canadian Shield meets the prairies, the selection of terrain around the city is remarkable.
Welcome to Canada!
Winnipeg Folk Festival! The best folk festival in North America!
My parents were from Winnipeg (actually my dad started in Bridgewater Somerset). Self contained, full service city. You get used to the winters.
Big congrats mate, look forward to watching the upcoming videos and trips you've got planned 👊🏻
Cheers buddy 😊
@@karlwatsondocsgotta go check out Clear Lake when you can in summertime.
Fantastic that you love Winnipeg ... In addition to friendly people, it has beautifully maintained parks such as Assiniboine Park, Kildonan Park, St. Vital Park. Great golf courses, cross country ski trails. Wonderful arts scene including painters, potters, musicians, and Manitoba Theatre Centre, Royal Winnipeg Ballet, Winnipeg Art Gallery, Winnipeg Symphony Orchestra, Winnipeg Jazz Orchestra and Manitoba Chamber Orchestra, and so much more...
I'm with you! I was born here and have traveled the world, even residing in other countries. I love Winnipeg too. We have everything and more!
GREAT video. I was born and raised in Winnipeg and will ALWAYS call it home. Don't live there now but not because I didn't like it, or because of the weather. It is great to see someone point out the wonderful aspects of the city. GO JETS, AND BOMBERS, GO ..........
Jamie seems really nice and I’m glad you found each other. We don’t always get to choose where we live (I would not have chosen this small town in Southern California but… work). But, having a community is so important and so is making the best of where you live! Like the video.
Finally someone gets it. Lived in West K for 4 years, a 10 minute walk from K Park. It was great. Good for you.
I'm so happy I made productive decisions about my finances that changed my life forever. I'm a single mother living in Birmingham uk, bought my second house in August and hoping to retire next year at 41 if things keep going smoothly for me.
I will be forever grateful to you, you changed my whole life and I will continue to preach on your behalf for the whole world to hear that you saved me from huge financial debt with just a small Investment, thank you Jihan Wu you're such a life saver
My advice to anyone holding cryptocurrency right now is to invest it and earn upto 70 times of the initial capitals. Holding cryptocurrency will make it reduce because once the price goes down it will definitely go down as well but when you invest it, you won’t have to worry about anything
The first time we had tried, we invested $1400 and after a week we received $5,230. That really helped us a lot to pay our bills.
Thank you for making this lovely video about my home! I moved the opposite direction from Winnipeg to London but love my home in Winnipeg
