Mitsubishi Mirage: Bad at any price

  • Mitsubishi's 2014 Mirage boasts good fuel economy and a solid warranty. And that's it. Clunky and jumpy, the Mirage doesn't come close to the style and performance of other affordable small cars.

my average fuel consumption for my own mitsubishi mirage is 54mpg(US). highest i got is up to 61mpg. even the maintenance costs really cheap. this mirage is built for long-term practicality.

Are you kidding.....this is the worst car I have ever driven. My lawnmower has more horsepower than this piece of garbage (and sounds better). It does 0-60 in 30+ seconds (hence his highway remark). and feels like it is one step away from breaking down. Life is not even close to being long enough to drive one of these pieces of junk

Vibration is gone in the 2015 model because of changed engine mountings. It also has changed suspension set up (stiffer) in 2015. So what remains is the vague steering. This reviewer is far too negative, and does not understand the concept of this car at all. He should go back to Mercedes Benz and get ripped off every day.

I own a '14 Mirage with the Navigation package. Best in city car I have ever owned. No issues or problems and the engine noise in mine decreased once the engine got broken in.
Can't beat this car for price, turning ratio, value, and fuel economy.
Just bought a '17 G4 at an unbeatable price and it is loaded with great features.
To be fair, I do have a big car that I use for long trips, so the Mirage is used around town and for short hops. I also live in a very flat state, so climbing hills is not an issue for the Mirage.

Mitsubishi always sends out test cars equipped with the CVT. This car is much, much better with the 5-speed manual.
I get 46 MPG with mine...and that is 100% in-town driving. If you want low cost, a great warranty, and near-hybrid MPG, get a Mirage. If you need something that goes fast, makes a statement, or handles like it's on rails...look elsewhere.
This car is not about "style and performance", as the reviewer contends. It is about extreme economy. And it does extreme economy VERY well.

78 horses doesn't wobble no steering issues this guy is nuts. It's awesome driving this car. It isn't fast off the line but once up to speed it can move and zips in and out of traffic cause it's so small. What you think you can't fit you can just do it. Feels like the car behind you is in the back seat and if they blow their horn you jump out of your seat. It feels like it was in your ear. It's awesome on gas tho. I use to take an 8 hr trip on half tank of gas full tank is only 9 gallons. Do the math. ❤

I have owned my 2017 Mitsubishi Mirage G4 SE for 10 months now and wow!!! The 2017 Mirage G4 SE is truly a great value! It comes standard with such features as: push start, keyless entry, keyless access on driver door and trunk, panic alarm feature, remote trunk pop, auto climate control, heated seats, height adjustable driver seat, pw, pl, pm, cruise control, blue tooth, audio controls on steering wheel, semi high contrast gauge cluster, auto dimming rear view mirror with homelink (works for garage doors, gates and security systems), outside temperature display, usb port, wide angle rear view camera (when backing up it helps you see futher side to side which is nice backing out of a parking spot), am/fm/cd/dvd/apple car play and android auto, also voice controls for siri which work great and spot on, fold down rear seat arm rest with cup holders, 15 inch dark titanium alloy wheels, fog lights, upgraded seat material in SE (suede like striped soft material), leather steering wheel and shifter, piano black trim throught the interior, and so much more.
It has esc, abs, ebd, traction control, hill hold assist, 7 air bags including drivers knee airbag and more!
I also installed quiet a few oem mitsubishi accessories such as: the oem front center console arm rest, color keyed bodyside modlings, mine came with rear spoiler with led brake light, chrome gauge cluster garnish, chrome fog light surround garnishes, all weather floor mats and also have weather tech floor liners, carpeted cargo mat, interior piano trim kit for center console and driver and passenger air vents to match the rest of the piano trim on the interior, mitsubishi license plate frames, chrome exhaust tip, mitsubishi valve stem caps, also tinted my windows to 20%, mitsubishi scuff plates all 4 doors, oem window rain guards and a few other things I know im forgetting. The cool thing about mitsubishi is they have so many accessories you can add to personalize your car to your liking! They even have a sport like package that adds a body kit all the way around. I just ordered the oem mitsubishi side sill sport rocker piece for my G4 in Wine Red.
I owned a 2015 Mirage ES CVT in Starlight Silver Metallic before this and loved it. My 2015 Mirage has the Navigation and Back Up Camera Package, All Weather Mitsubishi Floor Mats and Cargo Mat, Color Keyed Bodyside Moldings, Chrome Package, Exterior Appearance Sport Package, and much more. I owned it for around 2 years and then when the updated 2017s came out I loved them. Then the all new G4 came to the USA for 2017 also and I decided to trade in for the upgrades. Wow what a difference between the 2015 and 2017. They really rounded them out and smoothed out the refinement and just gave you more features and car for the money. Now don’t get me wrong I loved my 2015 it was awesome the way it was they just made them even better for the 2017 model year mid cycle update. These are great cars and I have owned 8 or so new vehicles and have never purchased the same model twice until the Mirage, I loved it that much! I purchased all my other cars new such as my 2013 Hyundai Elantra GLS, 2010 Kia Soul Exclaim, 2008 Hyundai Sonata GLS, 2005 Chevy Cavalier LS, 2003 Hyundai Accent GT, 2002 Kia Rio, then a couple used cars before these such as a 1996 Plymouth Breeze and a 1989 Ford Probe GT. Currently we own our 2016 Mitsubishi Outlander Sport GT AWC with Navigation and our 2017 Mitsubishi Mirage G4 SE.
Also with the push button start being on the left side makes it easier to reach and see then when they are crammed in on the right side of cars and hidden in some cars. It is very easy to get used to. With it being on the left its easy to open your door, throw your key fob on the seat and push the brake and hit the start button with out sitting in car if ya want to let it warm up. These cars warm up super fast due to the small engine and they have a heating pad wrapped around certain components to help get heat to the cabin faster if it is below a certain temperature out.
The 1.2L 3 cylinder with 78 horsepower (was 74 horsepower on 2014 & 2015 models until the 2017 updates) has been on sale in other countries since 2011/2012 and has been proven to be extremely reliable and has experienced no major issues. It has very few parts to go wrong as its a basic motor that is not very high tech, which in my opinion is a bonus! Mitsubishi made the engine to be very fuel effecient (I have been getting about 36 to 39 city and 44 to 50 highway as of late but can top 50 if I try), easy and cheap to maintain, easy to access and work on, and there is just not much to the engine tech wise and thats a good thing. It does not have GDI (which has issues with carbon build up in many cars), no turbos to break, nope its just a basic yet modern 3 cylinder MIVEC that will run for a long time like!
Seriously take the time to really look at them and drive one you cant beat their prices, value equation, features per dollar, warranty, they are just unbeatable. Mine is a loaded top trim Mirage G4 SE and stickered for $18,115.00 and after the dealer discounts, then the $2,000.00 mitsubishi rebate and $250.00 loyalty owner discount I got mine for $12,714.00!!! The Nissan Versa couldn’t even come close when comparably equipped in SL trim the cheapest I could find was $15,200.00. Even though the Versa has a lower starting price the Mirage and Mirage G4 easily undercuts it with the available dealer discounts and factory rebates! You can regularly find Mirage G4 ES models starting at under $11,000.00 and Mirage ES under $10,000.00 and come standard with far more features than the base Versa.
I had no issues with my 2015 the 2 years I owned it and none with my 2017 since I purchased it in February 2017. My 2015 went amazing in the snow with its 14 inch alloys and I am hoping my G4 does the same as it has 15 inch alloys. Go drive one for your self and don’t listen to any negative critic reviews. The owner reviews tell the true story and the owners love them for the most part as I love mine! My co-worker has had her 2015 Mirage ES with Nav and Back-aup Camera Package for 3 years now and has not had 1 issue or any type of maintenance preformed besides 0W20 Synthetic Oil Changes every 3,000 miles (yes I know Synthetic goes a-lot longer but we still have ours done every 3,000 miles) and she will only own Mirages now also! Once you go with a Mitsubishi its all you will drive. I don’t know what it is but the Mirage struck something in me for how honest of a little car it is filled with neat features. They are all I will buy now and I am covered for 10/100,000 miles whichever comes first. You can’t go wrong.
Just an update. We made a 60 or so mile trip each way with some hills in between from Cumberland MD to Altoona PA and on the way to PA I averaged 45 mpg. Now that is with 4 people in the car and it is the Mirage G4 SE CVT. Now on the way back we had the trunk full of shopping items and we averaged about 47 mpg as there are a few less hills coming back. Now in my opinion for a 3 cylinder car and 4 passengers (4 passengers weighing 625 lbs total and cargo in trunk weighing about 125 lbs for a total load of 800 lbs) thats pretty impressive plus an average speed of 70 mph. The fastest I traveled was 78 mph and the slowest I traveled was 55 mph. Now when we make this trip in my friends 2015 Mitsubishi Mirage ES CVT with Navigation we average about 47 mpg going over and about 50 mpg coming back. This is due to the Hatchback being 2 mpg more efficient and slightly more aerodynamic and weighing 2,051 lbs vs my G4 SE weighing 2,194. But in my opinion both do amazing and the G4 can work as a family car due to the insane amount of room inside and in the trunk. I can hold a ton more in the cargo area than I could in my hatchback.

it also comes with: tiny, tinny engine, unbelievable engine noise, terrible acceleration quality, horrific steering, cheap, terrible wheels, tacky, ultra cheap interior including nails showing and the worst plastics, unsafe on highway driving.....check out Consumer Reports, Edmunds, Car Connection, etc..are they all wrong? Consumer Reports ranks it as the worst vehicle on the market. Period. End of story and says "there is no conceivable reason to buy a Mirage, for the same budget there are endless, far superior used cars available. Mitsubishi also rated lowest brand now, they are badly failing so they offer what seems like lots of features and great warranty but those features are sub par and you will be needing the warranty. btw, I 've driven Lexus and Kia and my Kia SUV seemed every bit as reliable, Kia is now a top rated brand as they brought in world class AUDI/BMW engineers and their product is now outranking the Japanese in reliability and road safety crash testing....again, google those sources to see.

Trading in my 2018 Mirage last year for my 2018 ST was the best experience in my life. I kept receipts for every oil change. Got the transmission fluid changed at 40k and 80k miles. I really tried to take care of the car. The cvt transmission would overheat and put the car in limp mode. The engine would burn half/one quart of oil between changes. Wind noise was horrible, wheels where so small that if you tried to drive it spiritedly, you would feel like it would tip over on turns. The steel wheels it has will break if you hit a curb at 20 mph. Had to buy aftermarket wheels that where a little bit wider so I could reliably find tires at my local shop because stock is so ridiculously small that I had to go to the next town to find them at one point. Taking half a year to get up to speed going on the highway isnt fun, especially when you have a line of cars road raging because it took you forever to get to 70 mph and you're flooring it. The engine sounds like a dieing blender. Hell, its lounder than my ST and doesn't even move... Rear defogger died at 80k miles and the dealership said we have a kit that might fix it or might not. The only way to fix it with 100% success is to replace the entire window... That was the first new, 0 owner car I ever bought too. $15k, 0 miles, base model.
My friend just went on a trip to baja California and the rental company he went through gave him a 2020 to drive. He thought it wouldn't be bad because he was in mine when I had it. I told him it was only fine because we only drove on city streets never going over 40 mph. He came back trashing the car. Said he thought he was going to get ran off the road or rear ended because of how slow it was and that he only got 30 mpg. Hell, when I had to get my door fixed over a deer accident, the 2020 Mirage they loaned me had 22 mpg on the clock. I returned it with 34 mpg average but dreaded every second of it. My neighbor had to drive one for a few days while his Cruze was being worked on. I asked him if he would buy one even at $12k and he laughed. If the only thing you can say good about a car and not lie at all is that it gets good mpg but you have a list of things that suck, the car sucks.
