I have a same bike 2018 eluder been riding 20,000 MILES and I want to tell everybody this is perfect cruiser only thing I don't like is heat but that's normal for a air-cooled engine
I've had my Venture for 3 months and 5k plus miles now and I find your 'opinion' to be very bias toward the Honda. My time and experience on the Venture shows a stark contrast of what you have to say. That's fine, enjoy your Wing.
I get what you're saying. A proper review should not be punctuated "this is not like my FJR". Because it's not like your FJR. Basically my takeaway is if it is not an FJR, it's not a great bike. It may not be his intention, but that is the message that is being sent. I have been test riding new bikes like the Indian and some Harley's. I say the exact same thing especially about the Indian I rode. It was not like my Raider. But I am coming from a standpoint of would I give up my Raider for the Indian I rode. A proper review is not about comparing what I like or own to what I am testing. It should be just about the bike you're reviewing.
I've watched a lot of this guy's reviews and I can't remember even one time when I agreed with his opinion, lol. But, I like to see reviews of different bikes so I keep watching. I have a Venture also and it's simply a wonderful bike and I've owned a lot of bikes in my 40+ years of riding. You'd be hard-pressed to find a better all-around touring bike IMHO. But, to each his own I guess because we all look for different things in the bikes we choose.
I ride a 16 street glide at 5'5" and found the eluder to feel lighter and handled better. I thought the balance was better at slow speed and stops. I like the eluder a lot but think the venture is the better value and offers more. The heat on the left side in my thigh area and my knees on the gas tank would keep me on my Harley. I believe the yahama touring bikes will come down in price in a few years and i will pick one up then. I would be interested how the aftermarket will respond to these bikes with performance and accessories. That is one thing i love about Harley.
I felt the same, the HD seems hard to ride at slower speeds, the street glide not so much but the road glide, was so difficult I found. The Yamaha feels really light which is odd as others say the opposite.
I like the overall styling of this bike and I love the way the fairing looks with the four lights. It would be nice if they could put a similar fairing or at least offer it on a smaller motorcycle.
It’s a big Vtwin meant to cruise, and be luggable. Kind of like the HD’s n Indians do. If one wants the high end power of an inline4, then one should go for that sort of bike. 2 different designs. Once you ride this bike, or the Venture you realize it was designed fora total (COMPLETELY) different rider than a FJR. Only thing they should have kept on his the Venture shield . That would have been the 100% win. Low shield just will need to be swapped. Just like most do on the road glide n street glide.
I think the heel/toe shifter is a personal preference. I have the heel shifter on my V-Star 1300 and have rarely used it - really only when the winter weight boots I was wearing wouldn't fit the toe shifter. Also, even my 1300 is pretty torque-y; it'll chug a little starting out in 2nd gear, but it'll do it. I ride with a half-helmet, never have liked the full-face helmets, especially living in the hot/humid Gulf Coast. I think the taller, Medium windshield would be a better option on this bike, even for me at 5'-8".
I think it does have self-cancelling signals. But they don't do it as you come out of the turn like on a Harley. Instead it will cancel itself if you forget it on. Even my 84 Venture used to do that. If you leave the signal light on and forget about it it will shut itself off after a Time. That's not to say that I know for a fact that it has self-cancelling signals, it just doesn't make sense to me that its predecessor would have that feature and this one wouldn't. and please, any owners of this bike let me know if I'm incorrect. As I said it's a total assumption on my part.
Informative review. One correction: The Eluder does have self-canceling signals. You said the same in review of the Venture, but I suppose it does as well, uet I've only ridden the Eluder to say for sure.
TwoWheelObsession, or maybe the guy gave incorrect info. Another TH-cam reviewer said the signals don't cancel also, but his video shows them canceling when he forgot to turn one of them off. Love your cigar reviews even though I don't taste what you taste! LOL
I guess that depends on your point of reference. My Yamaha Roadliner cancels after traveling 490 ft. and after 15 seconds have elapsed. That's less than a tenth of a mile. When I road an Eluder, it didn't seem much different if at all. If the signal is turned on late or after stopping at a traffic light, it may seem a long time after a turn is completed. If the signal is turned on far enough before the turn, not long at all.
I test road one this weekend my biggest complaint is...Why didn't Yamaha make this a liquid cooled motor? And the seat must be replaced if you are going to be doing long distance riding a seat replacement is a must!! Wing protection is great!! Low speed handling you better be real careful!!
Cave Troll NOPE i think they really missed the boat a traditionally styled bagger with this motor would have been amazing this is to much goldwing nut enough bagger imo and i know the strat deluxe is this motor but a 5 speed not 6 and that was the downfall of that
I think Yamaha messed up with this bike series. I think they would have been far better off improving the Roadliner/Stratoliner bikes that they already had instead of creating a totally new bike...that's pretty much still a Roadliner/Stratoliner.
I just don’t see how Yamaha is going to sell any of these or the Venture. With Harleys new motor and gold wing doing what their doing no ones going to buy this. Yamaha really needs to rethink who their trying to sell to and why they would buy a Yamaha. Something like a Vmax motor and gold wing buyers would be thinking about this bike .
The Goldwing is not a VTwin in any way shape or form. Its designed for a 70 yr old man. The Goldwing looks outdated and I dont care what it offers it looks boring, The Yamaha looks way better
They seem to have used the engine from the Raider. It also has a 1854cc engine with peak torque at low rpm. This guy just whines throughout the vid. He clearly does NOT want to love this bike. He also doesn't know how to ride this bike.
I'm keeping my Roadliner 113 "Street Glide Copy" thank you very much. This thing is just too much. If I wanted this type I would go to the Honda dealer. But I don't.
I think the Venture and the Eluder was a little bit of a trip up. The Venture should be a full blown touring bike. The Eluder should be a bagger bike. Duh, I know that is what they claim to be... But I mean they should not have taken a Venture and stripped it down. They would have been way better off putting that fairing and bags on a Raider base. Make the Eluder a badass bagger and not a stripped down tourer.
And then he went to touring bike day at the track. Dude go ride your fjr or what ever you keep refering to. How much does and fjr weigh? Next go review an ultra glide and keep refering to a V storm. A freeway cruiser, great observation. Mr obvious.
Is there anything you don't wine about. There are people that have 500000 miles on these bikes. One with MS that travels all across the country time and time again. Just go by a Goldwing.

Lol uh, I ride Yamaha ;)
Um, FJR is slightly different

I heard one of these with an aftermarket pipe on it and it sounds amazing!

Josh Calbert heat seems to come from rear jug exhaust pipe.
I felt the same, the HD seems hard to ride at slower speeds, the street glide not so much but the road glide, was so difficult I found. The Yamaha feels really light which is odd as others say the opposite.
Love the sound of my venture!

Oh weird I must have misheard the guy or he misspoke, prepping the group then. Thanks

seems like they take forever to cancel is what i noticed when i rode it one last september

yeah, my Bolt cancels after riding 190ft or so, but it has to ride it, it does not self-cancel based on time.

Wing protection is great!! Low speed handling you better be real careful!!
I thought maybe you were paid for by Honda. Very bias and unappealing to the person that is truly looking for an objective opinion.
I agree completely. A totally biased review.
You can change everything on the left handlebar GPS radio etc.
You clearly have a Goldwing.
That gear indicator on the output is the maddest set up you can have. Great review as always. Be seeing you mate.
I just purchased a BMW K1600 B, and I love it!
To me only.. just not a fan of the front end. Other than that like them. Wish it had the power wind screen thou. Great review.
Cave Troll agree the front end is fugly kills the whole look
Troy22U sweet im not the olny one. Lol
Cave Troll NOPE i think they really missed the boat a traditionally styled bagger with this motor would have been amazing this is to much goldwing nut enough bagger imo and i know the strat deluxe is this motor but a 5 speed not 6 and that was the downfall of that
Troy22U agreeed it is fine for a sport tourer bur not a cruiser. And hell id love just to have a 5 speed. Lol mine only has 4. Lol
Cave Troll yes the Pontiac front , may not be for everyone. Go on their site n check out the murdered version. All black. It’s sick.
I think Yamaha messed up with this bike series. I think they would have been far better off improving the Roadliner/Stratoliner bikes that they already had instead of creating a totally new bike...that's pretty much still a Roadliner/Stratoliner.
Another great review keep up the good work Brian really enjoyed it

That's why I am buying one. Same ole HD, boring.
Damn what song is that someone please tell me
Excellent review, Brian well covered with good detail.
Another informative and thorough review. Very thorough and detailed. Very nice. Thanks Brian...
The Goldwing is not a VTwin in any way shape or form. Its designed for a 70 yr old man. The Goldwing looks outdated and I dont care what it offers it looks boring, The Yamaha looks way better
Have you seen the new one? It's not dated at all and is not slow AF as this bike is this engine is like have a 4 cylinder in a mustang..wait...
Great review/ride.
Im confused why Yamaha didn't use their vmax motor...
They seem to have used the engine from the Raider. It also has a 1854cc engine with peak torque at low rpm. This guy just whines throughout the vid. He clearly does NOT want to love this bike. He also doesn't know how to ride this bike.
Great review. Like the fjr much better.
Harley transmissions are clunky up to right now by the way. It's a "thing" they're kind of known for.
it looks and sounds like a f6b vtwin
I'm keeping my Roadliner 113 "Street Glide Copy" thank you very much. This thing is just too much. If I wanted this type I would go to the Honda dealer. But I don't.

If I was the designer I would have went with liquid cooled , adjustable windshield , and no floorboards . Just my two cents .
And then he went to touring bike day at the track.
Dude go ride your fjr or what ever you keep refering to. How much does and fjr weigh?
Next go review an ultra glide and keep refering to a V storm.
A freeway cruiser, great observation.
Mr obvious.
This is really biased tho it is much better than the goldwing
