Great video @Garage Denali! Followed the install, and it turned out great! I found out that you do not need to remove all the trim around the shifter and the driving mode buttons. You just need to remove the iDrive trim and the side trim next to it, and you are able to route the cable to the outlet under the glovebox!
I just bought a flat 90° usb-c cable and now the cable is nearly invisible. I tried 3 or 4 different mounts/chargers in my car before. They were flimsy (belkin and mophie sold from apple), ugly (belkin and the original apple magsafe charger -> white, wtf?! ), low quality (imho, belkin and mophie) and so on. The rennline mount and the charger are top-notch.
Your result looks clean, but I have some concerns that will probably keep me from doing the same, although I'm tempted to try it. Biggest concern is that I'm not really comfortable taking apart my console, so I guess I'm outta luck. I have a couple of USB connectors in front, though. I hated my under the glove box connector on my last BMW, the adapter would keep falling out due to gravity! So I tend not to use it even on my 430i. Also, I'm curious if it's blocking some of the controls (like passenger heater and A/C button) and if it's going into the passenger space at all. And can a passenger get a drink in and out of the right cup holder without disturbing a mounted phone?
The console is pretty easy to take apart and you won't run the risk of breaking anything. As far as the power outlet under the glove box, I never had any issues with power adapters falling out. Maybe you need to try a different power adapter. The angle of the mount can be adjusted but it does cover the A/C and passenger seat heat buttons slightly. It's not a problem for me to reach but the passenger asks me where the button is if they are not familiar with my car. Besides that, it doesn't really go into the passenger space unless that person is sitting with their knees up where sometimes they knock the phone out of the mount. Lastly, the mount does not interfere with drinks in the passenger side cup holder.
@@garagedenali Thanks for the info - I decided to go through with it after all and installed it today. The video was extremely helpful. I did hit a couple of snags. The first screw that I took off I dropped and had a heck of a time finding it (was in between the passenger seat and center console!). I wasn't sure about how to fish the wire through, since that part is talked about but it's not all shown. Eventually I pushed the wire down and saw the plug pop out from the below the plastic at the bottom underneath the glove compartment. My pry tool took a little bit of plastic off the corner of the gear shift plastic piece, but not enough for anyone else to notice. Overall, I'm happy with the placement. I went with a separately purchased right-angle USB-C connector to the magsafe charger to give a little more room above the cup holders. It will be nice to not have my phone move around anymore while I'm driving. Thank you for the detailed video.
It does have Apple CarPlay. If your car is from 2016 or later, it can simply be flashed/coded. If not, you have a few options which include an MMI box or an NBT EVO retrofit. I have a video on the latter

Nice one! Thanks for this 10/10! 😎

Good idea. Can you share a link to the cable?

this song brings me wayyyy back
Thanks for the video! Do you have any visible gaps when looking at the installation/mount from the right/passenger side?
There are no gaps in any of the trim where the wire is tucked. Everything fits snug as it should
Does your BMW have Apple play? What if you wanted apple play?

Was the power supply under the glove box a additional extra for your bmw ? or is this from the 12v lighter socket ?
Are you referring to the 12v socket under the glove box? That's like that from the factory
@@garagedenali you learn something new every day ! Didn’t know it was there thank you
I did the same to a car play installation
For $95, you still see the wire sticking out from the magnet. Shame on them.
