    - In this video we are going to tell you about three upgraded parts in the 2021 Ford F150 5.0 V8 that make the engine better than the prior gen 2 5.0 V8. These upgrades were made by Ford because of the new cylinder deactivation function. The upgraded kevlar oil pump belt, the high flow billet oil pump, and upgraded piston rings make this motor stronger. We are going to show you how to delete cylinder deactivation and auto stop start in one simple step that is completely reversible. Did Ford give us a better Coyote in the Gen 4 motor and give us an easy way to deactivate it?

      It's fastly become the least reliable engine in the F150 lineup. Cylinder deactivation, and a wet belt driven oil pump is not conducive to reliability. Ford is making their trucks harder and harder to work on...trying checking the fluid level on your 10 speed and you'll see my point.

    Placed my order today for a 2022 f150 5.0 and it’s now an option to cancel Deactivation. X52 is the option and it doesn’t cost anything. The dealer said it’s due to shortage of chips that has caused Ford to offer it. So HELL YEAH

    • @kepple319
      @kepple319 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      You’re dealer lied to you. 52x is the auto start stop eliminator, meaning your engine won’t shut off and run on aux power when at red lights and stop signs. Dealers want you to believe this rids the engine dripping cylinders but it doesn’t. You know more about the 5.0 from 5 minutes on TH-cam than any ford salesman. They’re all scum and it’s time to let us Americans buy straight from the factory and cut out dealerships.

    While I'm not a proponent of cylinder deactivation, in overhead cam engines, they simply use a cam profile change to institute it. It doesn't require the fancy valve lifters in an pushrod setup that often fail causing damage to the cam lobes. OHC engines either directly accurate the rocker arms, or use direct tappets. I just feel it's rather pointless when VVT already retards timing on all cylinders at the same time, also reducing fuel burn. Since 3rd gen, the 5.0 just isn't as durable a motor in general. The 2.7 may have an oil pump belt, but I've never seen one fail early personally, and it isn't common at all. Everything else about that motor is built like a tank, and stock to stock, it will hand a 5.0 it's lunch. That being said, the 5.0 is still light years better than any has motor from GM or Dodge.

  • @FordBossMe
    @FordBossMe ปีที่แล้ว +7

    The problem with unplugging that battery monitor cable from that BMS sensor is that now you actually change the charge rate at which it keeps the battery charged in that vehicle
    now I'm not saying it's not going to be sufficient but the vehicle may see that as an issue and it starts shutting down features online that create an issue for the customer because it can't monitor the battery
    so it says you know what let's disable the passive entry system
    let's disable the door keypad
    let's disable ambient lighting these are things that are not needed for the vehicle to run if we can't see what's going on with the battery
    Now I've had people try to disable their auto start stop in older vehicles and this was a problem because they go up there and they unplug that or unplug the connector underneath that the trailer brake module to stop the auto start stop and then other things start disabling inside the vehicle and I had to track down what they were doing to put all that bad information to rest because it eventually down the road started affecting other things that were not working on the system
    Theoretically all you'd have to do is save a junk old battery just enough to get the vehicle to start leave the battery monitor on board with that bad battery let's just say 60 to 70% charge rate that that battery has or life I should say lifespan and it will disable that it'll start stop and active fuel management anyway and then take the regular battery and put it back in the truck and until everything is reset it's going to stay disabled. I don't know I just wanted to put this here so people have more information I don't think people quite understand these systems like they think they do it actually works much more complicated than what most technicians even care to realize but when you get into the description and operation on how the system works there's several pages of what that battery monitor system actually does it's more than just the few things that you mentioned in this video

    Ford always insisted that wet belts are solid and they proved them out yet I've seen those belted disintegrate on the 1.0L Ecoboost. It's cheap and that's why Ford went with it. They are confident the belt will last the warranty period, that's it.

    The battery monitoring system does more than decide about activating auto start/stop. It also varies the load on the alternator to provide the right amount of voltage to the battery depending on the battery charge state. With the monitoring system deactivated, the controlling computer thinks the battery voltage is low and will default to max charging all the time and not only cause extra drag on the engine it might over charge the battery.

    • @adamharris2674
      @adamharris2674 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Extra drag on engine? maybe. Over charging the Alt? No. Ford BMSs keep the batteries at too low a state of charge anyway.

    • @yamaholic11
      @yamaholic11 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      yeah I really don't like the idea of doing this...like another comment said you still have to push a button to bypass the warning screen on startup, why not just push the auto start/stop off button and leave the battery monitor alone? Plus I'd bet the Ford Pass smartphone app will complain about it too and you'll end up with a ton of alerts if you defeat the battery monitoring system...

    I just ordered a 2021 F 150 5.0. (in Sept 2021)... On the order form I deleted Auto Stop/Start. Will this effect cylinder deactivation? Does it void the warranty? Thanks for the videos!

    The belt is similar to Harley Davidson drive belt... Deactivation cylinders turned into a failure for General Motors years ago because of the wear from firing and not firing cylinders and I believe I heard that Sport Mode turns it off while driving

    Another thing that ford engineers have said as well is to use a slightly thicker oil like 30 weight or preferably 40 weight. 50 is recommended only for heavy towing or track use because of the engine load causing the bearings to possibly be split out and the film shearing. Ford for the mustang gt say to use 20 weight but a guy took it on the track but didn't use 50 weight and ford said racing is allowed but for that application the wrong oil was used. If you pay to get a bolt on supercharger on your 5.0 from ford they'll switch your oil cap to say 50 weight even though they didn't change anything else inside, just threw a bolt on in. That really tells you everything. Overhead cam engines can use thicker oil than the overhead valve in my new truck. I ran both 10 and 15w-40 in my old f150 instead of 5w-20 piss and that's the reason why my 5.4 lasted beyond 200k and without any oil burning or valve train issues at all. Ford later admitted that the thin oil is crap but they had to for cafe standards. In south America and Australia where they didn't recommend 20 weight for that exact engine is where they didn't have issues like over here. Thank goodness I used my intuition and still used thicker oil. I'd highly recommend ford's diesel oil for these gas engines or shell rotella. The anti wear package on both is one of the highest you can get at any walmart. And no diesel oil doesn't harm engines that dont burn oil. If it burns oil it will accelerate the poisoning of the cat but the both the anti wear package and viscosity of the oil is what prevents that in the first place however if you start using it before it burns oil. so do so if you actually care about your engine. Dont if you'd rather have been counter Gov regulations ruin your engine.

  • @rds990

    Just so everyone knows....the cylinders do NOT stop and start rotating. Only the fuel stops flowing to the cylinder....so the engine life is not compromised at all. The only thing compromised is sound....the exhaust sounds different when you have modified the pipes, and cyls are deactivated.

      Your clueless. Engine life is heavily compromised with dod. History is your friend, try and do some research going back to the 70’s when this idea originally came out, it freezes valves in various positions in those 3 or 4 cylinders

    I'd advice caution. This isn't some mechanical fix like a heater core valve fix for Ram trucks that is clear in consequences.
    Don't mess with sensors because you don't know what's behind the scenes and if codes were written in ways that handles missing sensor data. Modern car's electronics are complex, you might create a problem elsewhere down the road. "If it ain't broke, don't fix it" applies perfectly to electronics.

      Just did an AFM delete on mine. FYI, the lifter design is the problem. Those modules do deactivate AFM, but installing an AFM delete kit + ecm tune is the only way to actually prevent lifter failure. Statistically you probably won't have an issue but if you do, Texas speed basic dod/afm delete kit and a tune from mailordertuner if you want stock drivability and v8 power always on.
